Alright so I main as Wes

But the other night I accidentally started a world as Wilson but I decided to go with it because it's been awhile since I've played as him. Normally, when I play as Wes, nothing special happens and since I'm still learning how to play as him, I don't make it past winter. However, in this world as Wilson I:

- Found Chester within the first couple days

- Found two touchstones

- Found a breezy vest by a skeleton

- Dug up a pile of gears, allowing me to make an ice box

- Found an ice staff surrounded by ice hounds close to the beefalo, giving me both the staff and two blue gems that dropped from the dead hounds

- Heck I even found Maxwell's door

Basically, with all this I would actually stand a pretty good chance as Wes. Of course it happens the one time I play as Wilson XD

I feel ya dude I can't play anybody but wes cause then I get overconfident and make the worst decisons i've also gotten so use to his hunger drain that when i play another charcter I have to manually always check their hunger or else I over feed them Wes Problems

Oh my gosh, I learned that in order to play as Wes I need to know my limitations and that's actually helped because at first I kept trying to be adventurous and attack things and that just wasn't working out lol

Tbh I kind of like it better too, it's a bit harder but playing as Wilson is now kind of annoying with him always complaining about being hungry. I know it's super helpful but I've gotten used to just checking on Wes so hearing someone mention they're hungry all the time gets old like dang Wilson chill

The only thing i wish Wes had was he could speak or have specific animations when examining things cause I don't usually get the hunger prompts but playing as wes feels empty sometimes cause he doesn't say or interact with anything like others do kind of make him have a lack of personality

It's easy to see the worst in luck, I've never had a more perfect ROG world spawn until the new update broke pitchforks, which I use to measure my "perfect" one-flingomatic base, without a flingo. 

I ONCE had a day 250+ plus world. Never since... I have a strange hurdle. I feel I could re-write the wiki for single-player DS.

I never bothered unlocking Wes. This really makes me want to play as him as my biggest problem with the game is overconfidence. I run straight into every fight head-on based on my knowledge of kiting- I've read, watched, and properly used every single-player kiting strat - although mistakes will be made then you end up after a long night scarfing that uncooked green cap accidentally then you have a terror beak after you with a 67% torch that doesn't quite make it through the night yada yada you get it. 

I love playing as Maxwell just for the fun of "free" magic use not to mention the spelunking bliss but his low health gets me every time. I just cannot bring myself to play carefully.

Donke60 seems to have the right idea. Maybe Wes is what I need to get better like how King of Winter made me impervious to winter maybe Wes will make me impervious to Don't Starve.

Wes was designed to be a challenge character with his low stats and lack of specific warnings or examinations, so I would recommend getting used to playing as an easier character like Wilson or Wolfgang first! You'll find yourself getting further into the game and therefore LEARNING more to do when you play as a harder character like Wes, as long as you don't get too used to the others' perks ( Wolfgang's waaay higher strength and health, Wilson's beard insulation in winter, etc ).

It's going to be a major change as you really have to get used to his hunger rate. Paying attention to audio cues will be the most vital and if you can't find him don't feel bad about unlocking him with the console the community isn't really hostile towards cheaters because of the mod community. Your balloons do have a purpose you them as an escape tool as they can distract the enemy but this is a slim chance though any chance is better then none. It's  helped me in a few hounds waves and I've seen it happen as a Wes main

Well I think i'm the exception because I'm so used to Wes that I can't play another character with out being over confident.

Also as a side note Wes has the damage modifier of Wendy so get ready to burn through some weapons on the big mobs other then that it's not that bad your get used to it.

Not judging anyone for doing so in single player but I just can't cheat, not in this game. Learning by dying makes a mofo proud, and this mofo has 'learned' alot lol. 

Finding Wes in adventure mode must not be guaranteed? I've found Wes's unlock set-piece only once on an adventure playthrough - not realizing what it was for. I saw a bunch of clockwork enemies spawn and ran, my only goal at the time was to "beat the game."

I can get Wes I know I can! No penalty in survival for trying adventure makes it even better.

 

To MinniBat's comment: Talking about getting used to perks, I love Wigfrid but she is the worst person to get accustomed to in-game. Is your profile pic a DST version of her? If so, awesome! Wish I had good internet...

Maybe things are different in DST, though to me SP Wigfrid is just too OP and will make you worse at playing other characters, as she can tank almost anything while gaining health and sanity. Probably super-useful though in multiplayer with a proper division of labor, a boy can dream...

Started a game as Woodie yesterday I found gears, walking staff and my favorite food source (lots o ponds) day 1. Super lucky.

On a side note I think Wigfrid is the easiest character, even compared to Wilson.

Wigfrid, Wickerbottom, Wilson. Wendy is not that hard either.

I like to play Wx and have a gear or two always on me as a last minute resort to keep me alive (bc I also tend to be over confident and head into things that I am not ready for.)  But now i've gotten so used to that last minute resort that I die early playing any other character rip.  I need to learn the game again using other characters.  I'd love to be able to play and survive using Wes one day, thats what keeps me motivated and keeps me engaged in the game.
