Character Idea - Waifu, the merry bride

Recommended Posts

Hi, I know there's tons of Character Mods out there, but i wish to put up one of my own for you guys to take a look.

I have no experience in Programming nor am a good artist, but i do have a wild imagination. However, at the same time i would like things to be pretty much balanced. Hence after much imagining, I have made Waifu. She has a supportive gameplay, maybe couples can enjoy playing together with her. For people who plays solo but still like the idea of playing a supportive role, or minion-mancing, can enjoy her playstyle. :)

I have some artwork in mind but im a terrible artist. So if anyone would like to mod her out and wants my input on her character art, can contact me via PM.

Also, do comment below and let me know how you feel, and what tweaks can or should be made to her. :D

Waifu, the merry bride

" Love holds no boundaries."

Hunger:150? Health:150? Sanity:200?

A girl wearing a short length wedding dress. Starts off with a Tuxedo, a Bouquet and a Wedding Veil in her inventory.

Gameplay
    1 - Tuxedo
        - Given to a player or Pig or bunnymen to "marry" them.

    2 - Happily Married
        - Provide +1/min Health regeneration for both Waifu and Married target when close to each other.

          - Permanently befriended until death.
          - Increase Hp to 600
          - Immune to Frozen or Sleep.
          - Remove all temptations and limitations.

            - Married Pig
              - No longer automatically attack mobs or Webber, eat items lying on the ground.
              - No longer turns into Werepig.
              - No longer fear the dark and run around like crazy, instead follows player like Abigail.
              - No longer triggers Traps.
              - No longer naturally keeps distance from Waifu.
              - No longer sleeps.

            - Married Bunnymen
              - Turns Beardlord into Bunnymen.
              - No longer turns into Beardlord.
              - No longer attack players carrying meat food items.
              - No longer automatically attack mobs or Webber, eat items lying on the ground.
              - Now eats meat and produce manure from eating meat.
              - No longer triggers Traps.
              - No longer runs to regenerate health when low health.
              - No longer naturally keeps distance from Waifu.
              - No longer sleeps.

        - Players
          - Provide +25/min Sanity for both Waifu and Player when close to each other.
          - Stabilize Temperature to 30 degrees for both Waifu and Player when close to each other.
            - When temperature goes above 30 degrees, both gain -2/min?.
            - When temperature goes below 30 degrees, both gain +2/min?.

Advantages
1 - Provides good Sanity bonus for Newbies, at the cost of having to stay really close to each other.

2 - If you like Permanent Pets like Abigial or Maxwell's Shadows but wants a pig or bunny.

3 - Provides easy Temperature control for Newbies, at the cost of having to stay really close to each other.

4 - Provides slow Health regen, just a nice perk.

Disadvantages
1 - Unable to befriend any mobs by treats

2 - Decreases in Sanity when not with her husband
        - -20/min Sanity when not near her husband or when she has no husband.

3 - Does not hit very hard
        - 0.75x Damage modifier

4 - Married Player can't use bed rolls or Tent while having Tuxedo equiped

5 - Waifu can't use bed rolls or Tent

6 - Married Player can't take Tuxedo off after equiping

Craftables
    1 - Tuxedo
        - Works like Abigail's Flower except
          - Craftable using 6 Silks and a Petal
          - Unlimited durability
          - 70% damage reduction, 20% water resistance
          - Tux takes up armor slot
          - Death destroys Tuxedo instead of dropping it

    2 - Divorce Papers
        - Craftable using 6 Papyrus
          - Use on Tuxedo to destroy it
            - This is the only way to remove Tuxedo from Players, other than death

    3 - Bouquet
        - Craftable using 10 Petals
        - Spoils over 6 days, similar to Garland
        - Restore +3.33/min Sanity when equiped in Hand

    4 - Wedding Veil
        - Craftable using 6 Silks and 6 Petals
        - Spoils over 15 days, similar to Floral Shirt
        - Restore +3.33/min Sanity when worn
        - Increase Movement Speed by 15%
        - 20% water resistance

Problems
1 - Pig and Bunnymen mining

2 - Respawn of Pig and Bunnymen after married

3 - Making Married Pig and Bunnymen not to turn into Werepig or Beardlord

4 - Making Pig and Bunnymen wear Tuxedo

    5 - Balancing numbers

    6 - Married to Wickerbottom? ;-;'''

... I like the mechanics, but... Rather it stay a modded character. I for one have only thought that 2 out of every character I've ever seen in the workshop to be worthy of being in the actual game. Those two being Minari and Mastema. They are just aghfhsbjdddbfds soooo goood!

That mod would be sheer pro-marriage propaganda. An utopia. A lot of power here too (an armour of unlimited durability?).

If one considers marrying pigmen and bunnymen, why should Wicker be a problem? I deliberately leave out the social question marks of the mod (single people lose sanity, married ones are always happy, Webber and Wendy are minors).

A bouquet as a low-damage weapon COULD be fun though ;).

I see. xD Yeah. I have tried them. And they are pretty awesome.

Well. Am still a beginner at Don't Starve. So pardon my lack of balance knowledge. But i do prefer balanced characters.

I didn't thought of Webber and Wendy though. Good point.

How about,

        1. Not able to marry other characters.

        2. Infinite duration armor then serves as just a design to differentiate the other pigs and bunnymens.

Also. The bouquet idea seems nice. :D

Edit. Now Waifu looks like a Wendy with the ability to have pig or bunnymen as a companion, removing the aoe attack for the ability to farm trees and mine. Haha xD

But then again. She will be quite weak in a sense as compared to Wendy as Wendy can still befriend pig and bunnymen to help her. Whereas Waifu will be stucked with what she chose.

Perhaps i can change some design ideas around to fit her into the character that partners with another character, yet not have the social issues with the use of marriage.

How about changing Marry into becoming Best Friend?

With the same item effects, just different item designs. :D

Needs making babies. And then I want to eat the babies.

easy Krampus farm, too OP

How about joining the 'clan' of the chosen creature and becoming kinda like one of them? Your appearance changes, as well as perks. And then you can start talking with the chosen faction better, since you're one of them. You can easily just 'ask' other members of your faction to help you out, and stuff... Yeah, I'm going way overboard here.

Wait, whaaaaat? Nah, keep the marriage! Then changing the name of the character and whatever else would also need rethinking and agh! It's a good concept. Perhaps not good enough to be in the actual game (is subjective doe) but it would be pretty good for a mod. I mean, it's better than some other attempted Don't Starve character concepts that are supposed to be unique and those characters that are simply from other games/movies/whatever else. Just because marriage element is there, doesn't make it propaganda. I personally think the concept of marriage irl is just some stupid corporate nonsense, though for a game like this... You could take some inspiration from that one movie I think is called The Dead Bride, I believe. That's probably why I think you should stick to what you have approximately and just expand on it a tad bit. Make her unique, not that you haven't done that already, but make her really stand out :p

Edit: although actually you could tweak the name Waifu to something different... An actual humen name or something that sounds like one? Something that goes along the lines of "Wai" or something, but is an actual name... something that would make you think a bit from the name "oh, she's a bride of sorts" or something... Yeah, I might be pulling stereotypes, but hey, you're just making a character for DST here, ei?

Wynna, sounds good? :D

Actually i just read somewhere that there isn't any actual age associated with the Characters. And yeah, i'll try to make her stand out more. I'm still thinking of ways to make it so that she doesn't become a poorer version of Wendy though. :(

I do not think you need to change Waifu. I mean, she is your character - on the workshop, people pick what appeals to them. The idea is very amusing, so don't feel pressured to change the design ;)!

If you want rebalances...

Camp Mom perk: she can bond with any character for a sanity bonus on both sides. Any bonded player dying decreases her sanity.

Pigmen Love Her: pigmen, if befriended with her special craftables, stay friendly longer. Seven days before they require a new craftable?
