Kick Abuse discuss

Recommended Posts

If this is happening to you (like it has been happening to me 100x more often recently) just leave the server before the vote to kick passes, then join back in 5 seconds. I had to deal with a couple of jerks today that were doing this to me, and in order for me to just enjoy the game I had to leave and rejoin every time. Eventually they moved on to kicking others in the server who didn't know about this.

If anyone at Klei reads this, yes your system is quite literally broken. It is flawed in the sense that greifing is much more accessible thing for anyone to do ANONYMOUSLY and at a long range. Even when used for its purpose, it can easily be avoided by those who are aware via leaving the server before the kick and just joining back. These days i'm more worried about losing my work to a vote majority server restart or getting kick-banned than I am to anything in the actual game, and I swear when I say I am minding my own business and not even talking in chat every time when someone suddenly puts up a vote to kick me and not too long after I have more than half the server wanting me out for absolutely no reason. Don't even bother asking for a reason or typing in chat at all if this happens to you, give them no reaction, simply leave and rejoin is the best way if you want to continue in the time you've invested, and even then it varies whether or not they will keep pestering you, then its a battle of attrition.

No offense to klei, but there have been many game-breaking issues which have been known about for a long time, Even when people pasted the code to fix one of those issues to the forums, it was still ignored, Not even a response. Have the gods abandoned us?

Don't get me wrong, they have been fixing bugs lately, but they need to get their priorities straight.

They made some updates trying to fix this problems with the vote systems, but seems like they gave up/ran out of ideas.

Klei can you please implement a better vote kick system?  People are joining as a group/multi-boxing to vote kick players off the server to disrupt gameplay.  Perhaps a time limit required of in game time per server before that player can initiate a kick?

This happened to me not so long ago and i posted the idea about the cooldown as well. Maybe that and another idea i saw on the forums where that the people that just connected the server can't vote or that they vote affects less than one from someone on day 100000000000000000.

Have gods abandoned us? Don't worry and just pray to potato cup

Honestly, I've always hated voting systems. They can be abused by malicious users so, so easily, and in certain scenarios, you can be votekicked for simply not following a meta (e.g. TF2 MvM team composition, et cetera).

Votekick systems have always sucked, but the main problem is there are hardly any better solutions. It's a sad thing.

If there aren't any solutions, it should be removed tbh

Well... I've a suggestion >.>

This is taking only late-game PvE and early game PvE servers in mind. No PvP. Vote system has no use in PvP, so it should be disabled there by default, I feel. My suggestions are:

* Nobody can cast a vote until they're day 10. After that their vote will be worth 1 point.

* Vote power will increase until day 50 when one vote will have the power of 5 (consecutavly, day 20 will have your vote worth 2 points, day 30 3 votes and day 40 4 votes).

* Once reaching day 10, you could cast a vote-kick and whatnot once per day. This delay would decrease until day 50 when you can cast votes consecutably.

* When starting a vote kick, your username would be shown on the vote kick menu. This would let others know who started the vote.

Since bases are generally supposed to  be made at about day 10, this would ensure griefers get kicked, whilst griefers themselves who recently joined won't be able to vote anyone out. And even if they can, tey couldn't keep casting votes.

Yes, I am aware this has quite some flaws in it that can be overcome by griefers. However, at least the system would be better than what we currently have, wouldn't you agree?

In terms of PvP voting, having and not having the system in could create an interresting new mode; a mode where you can kill others, but if you do you'll have some serious consequences of being kicked from the server and banned for a while. Then hitting/killing others would mostly be something you do by an accident. Cooperative PvP... Hmm... Notori... >_>

Your system sounds better than what we currently have. Sure, it is not perfect, but still better. Mostly the initial vote prevention. I cannot believe one can just join and start voting.

Cooperative PVP? Why not? @raoglu has the one server where it actually works. My best PVP experience. Definitely check it out. My players wanted a PVP server where we could cooperate. It worked when we were together. While waiting for them, only trolls joined, blatantly ignoring the description (use the chat, EN/PL/ES supported by host, heavily co-op, the admin is here to help you, blahblahblah) and evidently deciding setting out to attack the admin equipped with tier 4 gear while having respectably just a hammer or an axe and no armour themselves, as Maxwell and Clementine, respectably, stopping just to tell me to, ah, inconvenience myself from behind in an obscene fashion, is a good idea. Obviously, they died to merms, darkness, cold and starvation.

So yes, please tell me your ideas about making PVP more cooperative. I would like that.

Emmm... in terms of more, I don't really have too many ideas. It would be great to get some team/tribe/cooperative-based PvP, although it might have some problems such as spawn-killing, helping the opponent team(s)/tribe(s) and it's possible there might not even be any competition going on. Although, what would be the aim of each team/tribe in terms of competition? Kill as many opponents as you can? Do enough sabotague/damage to the opponents so that you can strive better? Hoard as many resources yourself as you can?
