DST-Exclusive Characters?

Recommended Posts

I made a topic like this over on Steam but I figured I'd try it out here too: Would you be for or against characters that appear in DST that aren't in normal Don't Starve?

Charlie is one of the more obvious choices, but what about characters based around the multiplayer mechanics?

  • A Medic-role character who provides more health when eating food or using healing items (possibly including a cheaply-made healing item of their own like gauze made out of silk or something).
  • A character that expands on the concept of taming Beefalo and is able to tame basically any non-Giant mob with a sort of Pokemon-parody system in which tamed animals grow stronger after many successive victories over other mobs.
  • A character in sort of a blacksmith role (expanding on what I'd imagine Wigfrid ends up doing a lot) in which they create weapons and armor out of materials that other characters bring them since their stats are too low to survive long out of camp.

I like this idea, especially if the medic had some long-range healing staff or something that only he could use.  He'd be naturally too squishy to enter giant battles, but could provide assistance by healing from afar....  Hmmm...

Stats -

75 hp, 140 hunger, 100 sanity.  Sanity drains quickly around monsters, moves around at Wes's speed, hits half as hard as Wes.

He pretty much cannot live on his own, but can support whatever needs supporting, be it pigs or players.

He can see the health of players, and inspecting a mob will get you a general idea of how healthy it is.

Craftables ideas-

All base game craftables available without need for science stations.

Bandages - heal 30 hp: 2 silk, 4 grass

Medicinal dart - heal 10 hp, can be shot at players or mobs - 1 stinger, 1 spider gland, 1 red feather.

Painkiller - Is booster shot, but restores 40 hp instead of 20 - 3 papyrus, 3 healing salves, 1 stinger.  Requires science machine

Adderall - Is coffee, basically.  Except to already speedy characters. -8 nitre, 3 carrots,  2 raw meat. (Adderall is made of salt, apparently)

Amnesia's Milk - puts things to sleep.  Players can use on themselves, for similar effects as Bearger's yawn. - 5 petals, 1 stinger, 2 spider glands. Requires Alch engine.

Amnesia dart - A far more effective sleep dart - 2 reeds, 1 Amnesia's Milk, 1 crow's feather  Requires Alch. engine. ... These are kinda a joke.  Bit dark too...

Zyprexa (a drug used to treat people with hallucinations) - Restores 40 sanity - 2 healing salves, 2 nightmare fuel, 1 stinger.  Requires alch. engine.

Healing staff - heals 40 hp, uses 20 sanity, 20 uses - 1 blue gem, 1 living log, 2 honey poultice.  Requires prehatinator.

Caduceus - AOE Heals(maybe players and allies only, it may be difficult to control flow of battle that much)up to 60 hp, uses 30 sanity, 40 uses - 1 purple gem, 2 living logs, 2 painkillers.  Requires shadow manipulator.

Maybe have him make more than weapons/armor?  Possibly tools as well?

Stats - 150 hp, 170 hunger, 170 sanity.  Hunger drains fast.

Don't see him hitting weak, metalworkers tend to be strong, and calloused, so he wouldn't be wimpy...  Maybe make him kinda ADHD?... The only way to do that is to make him ignore inputs and randomly wander off to chase butterflies or whatever....  Could be frustrating as heck, tho.

Kolafant riding FTW!

Maybe have his downside be not getting along with people, or having social anxiety with things players or characters say sometimes put through a filter similar to TF2's medieval mode chat that turns whatever players say into something comically judgmental, as well as other players having an insanity aura.  He'd pair well with the Medic, as his pets would get hurt over time in all their battles.

Actually I think making it short-range would be more balancing, as he would still have to be in danger, and maybe it takes away some of his health as well?

I Think the Medic should be thematicly fit in the timeline idk but Ds seems like 18th Century time when im right ? Then he probably should be an Doctor from this time. Or making just a Plague Doctor Theme with has his own Craft Tab where he makes dynamic medicine like wickerbottom with her books he does special things with it and when he uses this special medicine on other group Members it has a chance to cause negative or positive effects depending on the Medicine he used.

When im remember right isnt there some files about illnes stuff spotted in DST ? when this getting a thing he could easy bound in with this feature and influence it somehow.

Greetings

Where did you get 18th century?  It's more 1920's, about 200 years past the 18th century.
