Soto8969
You need to have atleast 2 Stones in the backpack, and being close to a raging campfire for it to over heat you. Developer ImDaMisterL Posted April 10, 2016 Developer Share Posted April 10, 2016 Nowadays, I don't even use Heat Stones much, a bit because of that. They're just not very worth to make, in my opinion. I don't use heat stones because I make sure to have winter clothes before the cold comes. You can survive a whole winter with just a Beefalo Hat (which is quite easy to get). And by next winter you will have the Hibernation Vest from killing Bearger (which is equivalent in insulation to a Puffy Vest, along with a reduction in Hunger). So I usually spend my 1st winter with a Beefalo Hat + Breezy Vest and every other Winter after that with a Hibernation Vest + Tam-o-shanter. These items have enough insulation to keep you warm the entire day without ever having the need for a heatstone. Summer is even easier with Eyebrella + Floral Shirt, easy to get and no stone required. Well that's the beauty of this game - everybody can play it differently . I personally dislike chester and mine always ends up just sitting at base all game long (Unless I have to go collect those 500 logs that Bearger farmed up for me, then I take chester along). I don't find the head and chest slots to be of much use either, my inventory is always empty (all I have on me at all times are twigs, grass, and logs) so no need for a backpack. To me the constant switching of thermal stones in and out of ice chester is annoying. I see it as a way to get through summer if you didn't prepare for the heat ahead of time. After you set up a nice base you really don't need much to survive and explore. When I go away from base to explore or gather something I have with me: >Twigs >Grass >Logs >Log Suit >Tentacle Spike >Few Meatballs(depends on how long I decide to be away from base) Along with a Walking Cane in my hand slot and any clothing necessary to survive the current season. That leaves a ton of room in inventory for whatever I went out to get. In my opinion inventory space is only valuable at the beginning of the game before you have a base built and are trying to hoard everything up and bring it to one place to start building and storing. After that you don't need much room as you will no longer collect everything you see in your path. If you have problems managing inventory space you should plan out ahead of time what you're going to collect - so one day you go out and do nothing but chop down trees, next day go and do nothing but farm spider silk/glands/meat, another day go and focus on only collecting reeds, then rocks, etc and so on. If you try to go and just collect everything you see you'll end up not accomplishing anything and will have trouble managing inventory space. DragonMage156
(Didn't really read the other replies but) you can try using winter clothes such as a winter hat or rabbit earmuffs? It usually helps keeping the heat for longer. EighteenXVIII
This is why Wilson is my favorite character. That beard insulation + Beefalo Hat/Tam-o-Shanter makes the cold a total non-issue. You can even use Bush Hats during Winter without freezing to death immediately. The Bush Hat is probably the most powerful item. Just hide and let Pigs/Bunnymen/Rock Lobsters/Beefalo's kill all enemies while you avoid combat. Another item you want to make soon is a Tent. Provides a big sanity boost, healing and warms you up completely. Once you have a Silk farm you can make tons of these and then you just need to worry about a good food source and you're set.
