Muttbutt
The new coffee drink and it's mechanic is amazing, but time consuming to collect and produce. Honestly how coffee is now is pretty good, even though the speed boost itself is insane and the five sanity loss can easily be overcome. But I had an idea for coffee so people won't depend on it all the time, and maybe make another game mechanic viable. I have two suggestions. 1. Make coffee last for a day or two instead of the half day, but add an after-effect of grogginess in which the player comes into a tired state where they move slower and are more affected by sanity draining things. There'd be two ways to get yourself out of grogginess, drinking more coffee, or sleeping. 2. Make it so if you drink X number of coffees in a period of time, you experience the same grogginess mentioned before. Is that adding an extra step to what's already hard to get? Maybe, but I feel that once you have a sizable coffee farm, the game becomes infinitely easier and players will start to depend on it. This way, players have to think on what times is a good time to use coffee and plan out what they want to do with their supply, instead of just drinking a coffee every half-day and negating the five sanity loss with a pirate hat/Tam O'. That's my idea, but I'm just a nerd on the internet, so what do I know about game design? Or maybe she could, like... make a specific action to get rid of it, like... read an exciting book? The effect of grogginess doesn't have to be permanent, they could just last a few moments to the next day/afternoon/night. I feel as if option two is a better option overall because Wickerbottom won't be punished for drinking just the one, but over-doing it could create grogginess. Maybe instead of slowing her down since Wickerbottom never really sleeps in the first place, the coffee makes it so she has a headache and can't read a book until grogginess has surpassed, as well as the small sanity drain grogginess gives. As for other remedies for the grogginess, I'm not sure. Waiting, drinking more coffee, or sleeping seems like the best ideas, but this is all just a suggestion in the first place. Feel free to add on or take a part my idea as much as you want. I also do not like the idea of being forced to sleep to remove it, maybe have an other item that remove the grogginess (Snake Oil yeay!). Quote 2. I like this one better if it is accompanied with a increase of the coffee duration but really I think coffee is already fairly balanced by how time consuming it is to acquire and start producing.
