harmonylane
First, I'm an old gamer & I originally bought this series as something I could explore & play with my gaming son. I could have happily played the original incarnation indefinitely! My son gets frustrated & always wanted those new releases; he tends to die quickly...but hated making the game 'easier' with the world adjustments. Anyway, I count DS original & new incarnations as a top 20 game (I'm speaking as an early Atari 'family & friends' all day free player in the 80s)...so kudos! I had just started getting into RoG, when SW came out, and I wasn't ready to jump to it (because I like to wait until I've really embraced what I'm playing before jumping to the newest thing), but my son was crazy excited, so here we are. And I just got frustrated enough today to finally join the forums. SW is addicting, as before. BUT I absolutely HATE losing these fantastic worlds to some idiotic stuff I have no control over. (yeah, wah wah)...so please put a priority on giving us access to adjust the world. I will tell you right now, my favorite aspect of all these is exploring & completing puzzles. Some days, all I do is play in the portal (land-based games)! And that reminds me of SW...where it's all freaking frustrating! So, after I get frustrated, I leave the portal (yep, I've won...once), and just play. Not possible in SW...it's non-stop frustration. And I'm on the verge of losing all interest. My son already has. He's more of a camp builder & fighter mentality. So, yeah, suggestion #1 it's time to adjust the world config...now, please! People complaining it's too hard...adjust. People complaining it's too easy...adjust. Done. I haven't read a lot of the topics, since they aren't organized in any way...but I have seen a MANY comments I agree with, so I may be repeating here. What's fun: sailing the ocean, exploring islands, finding cool new things. What's really, really not fun & also boring: storms, storms, more storms, and eruptions. The seasons suck (I didn't like RoG too much either, seasonally speaking, but they weren't as OP as these are...the new stuff/bosses were fun)...at least you could make them more realistic, but then world config would probably solve that. The original loot/bottle/crates were best; now there too many crates. I miss the starter island spots (though I don't find the pelican helpful, since I can make as many packs as I want). I think it may have been a glitch, but once I saw beautiful sparkles of bioluminescence during the day & I was thrilled mostly at how great it looked. My son says "They need a world seed system, so that if you really like a world you can respawn it." 'Respawn" is my word, not his. There is a current bug where you cannot hold food & right click to eat. It drops to the ground. Btw, I really dislike the 'new' choppy sounds pretending to be music while the game loads. Well, I'm sure I have more comments, but these have floated to the surface of my brain. Hope my comments help you continue to succeed. Oh, and please don't abandon DST, as I really would like more cooperative play. Saw there are updates, as I was preparing my post...hopefully these are still helpful. Also thought of another issue...if you get poisoned, there seems to be less than 25% of surviving long enough to get a poison gland...I killed about 50 snakes & never got one before I died, so again, this is OP. There should be an equal chance of healing poison as getting poisoned. D3smond
Hey, welcome both of us to the forum! xD I read the post everyday but just pure "reading"! xD You should realise that it is kinda impossible to die in DS/ROG with OP character such as Wigfrid. From my view, other than Wes, I don't really think I can die that easily unless I get a xxxx up random world (didn't happen to me at all) Hence, I'm so glad that Shipwreck came out tbh, running from island to island, tougher seasons makes me more disciplined on planning to travel/explore. I used to hate storms/raining/floods but now I absolutely love it, and, more importantly, I get back the excitement to survive in a certain season (dry season, I died 4-5 times and now finally I survived through it, 140 days and still counting). In ROG, you can never die because of a season, spring is super easy, summer (with Eyebrella, easy), autumn (holiday) and winter (get dapper vest and winter hat, running around chasing Deerclops into a panic room. I think you and your son forget that this is a survival game, you supposed to die because you cannot survive in a tough environment, what's the point of Klei making this game if you can survive easily and keep on fighting and expanding your camp without think/plan how to survive. But no offence, you have your right to voice out the difficulties you face in this game like I do. I know how hard to gain poison gland that's why I make sure I don't get bit by spider warrior/poison snake and etc, this add into my consideration when I travel, do I need a seashell suit/ poison mask? And this is why I always tell my friends Shipwreck is totally worth your money and time to invest in even without DS vanilla or ROG experience because this is a brand new world with new challenges. As a Dota player too, I always complain Valve about their game but they don't really care (now they do because of Reddit xD) but for Klei, I don't complain at all because they actually doing stuff for the games, from DS vanilla to ROG to DST and now Shipwreck, I saw how they put in their times and energy to listen to players about recommendation, implement it and launch it, which I feel so happy and appreciate about it. I do agree on the world config which they should've implemented it since ROG and I'm wondering what takes them so long to do this, a player who needs more challenges can just adjust it. My conclusion is, don't forget this is a survival game which the seasons should be tough, monsters should be strong (the first time I saw tiger shark and it killed me when I hit Sharkitten, RIP) and you should be planning on how to survive, not how to build a beautiful base without need to worry about food/survive. SW is a bit tougher, but this is what a survival game should be. TheCorporatePuppet
pretty sure config is not there to avoid diluted experience, as customization would not accurately reflect the balance of many mechanics. e.g. very bad for early access games Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/63762-just-my-2-cents/#findComment-717683 Share on other sites
WillPwn4Food
Welcome to the forums, and I'm sorry to hear your experience is turning so sour. Here are a few suggestions for lessening the frustrations of DS: Use the wikia! Whenever you see a new creature or item in the world, pause your game and look it up on the wikia. You can learn all that there is about it, and utilize it to your advantage. Look into mods. There are many mods that ease the difficulty of the game. Some even remove the perma-death feature altogether. Back up your saves. Just google, or even search on these forums, where your saves are based on your OS. I hope you can get back into the game after using some of these suggestions! I don't see what you mean. Other than that combat at sea is atrocious, palmtreeguards are an embarassment, and gears are far too plentiful, but those first two can't be done with world config. 2. While that's true, you can make as many packs as you want, Packim is helpful in the sense (to me anyway) of carrying the items you want handy but don't want to waste the space carrying around with you. (Unless you throw all strategy out the window and wear 30 suits of armor at once with 20 backpacks in your inventory) 3. Nnnnnnah. This adds more of a feeling of panic, and not to mention there are ways to respawn, and besides touchstones, it does come with a cost. You don't see people dying in the streets and coming back to life right then and there, now do you? 4. Don't right click. Left click. That's how you do it. 5. Pssst. That's called "fitting in with the theme". Like how caves do that same thing. Well, for shipwrecked, since it's a bit more tropical-y, they've got those sounds instead. I really don't mind them, considering I hardly listen to those sounds anyway, I don't have to make many worlds. 6. You know those swamp things? With the farting spouts? Dig those up, they've got 50% chances to drop poison glands when dug up, or just play SW's "Easy Peasy Mode" as WX-78, who cannot be poisoned. SenhorLevi00
13 hours ago, harmonylane said: He's more of a camp builder & fighter mentality When I started to play this game I was like your son, every single creature that move or breathe I just go there and try to kill the creature, sometimes I got killed, sometimes I killed the mob but I was with a very low HP and something unexpected happens and I died right before. So I suggest you and your son to read the wiki, just as stated by @WillPwn4Food. Try to learn to kite the mobs. Almost every mob have a attack time, try to learn about it and you can kill almost any mob without losing a single point of HP, If you don't like to kite or your not familiar with it yet, just make a log suit and a football helmet. Just watch out what character you're using. Some are very easy other very difficult. harmonylane
Read the feedback...thanks for chiming in. I think everyone has different playing styles & what they consider fun or not. The best games are going to allow for that flexibility. If someone has fun killing everything...they can. If someone has fun building camps...they could. If someone just wants to explore...they should be able to. You may enjoy playing cutthroat survival...but the game developers have the capacity to acknowledge that not all players want to play...in the dark, for example...and allow for varying levels of challenge. (my son insisted we play in the dark; for me that's so boring...it becomes a game of how fast can you die = frustration, again for me personally) I just want to have fun. What I consider fun, of course. I like challenges. I don't like fighting; I cried the first time I killed a Koalefont...like for an hour! And I mostly avoided ever doing it again. (you can laugh if you want, but killing has zero value to me; it's NOT fun. I catch all flies & spiders, etc & put them outside, just saying.) I also don't like to look up all the info, it's more 'fun' for me to figure it out, as part of the challenge, thanks...though the occasion dropped tidbit is okay. Anyway, I'm taking a break from SW until I can config the world for fun...and challenge. Not for frustration & boredom. (For me storms are boring, because there is limited exploration...I'm sure others find exploring & gathering resources so very easy, no matter what the weather; I don't. I can run around, but it's not fun. I don't like having my camp destroyed/unusable 3 seasons of the year...and no I'm not much on camp building...or actual forts; that's my son. And, yes, I often reduce the hound spawn as an unwelcome distraction; I'll take a giant/boss any day over annoying hounds/sharks.) Sorry about the "respawn" confusion; my son said I was using the wrong word; seeding isn't about respawning your character, just restarting the world that had been created...in the case you actually wanted to explore more of it. Hope that clarifies? Oh, and for Klei...you can add new stuff, and that's cool, I like finding/seeing new things...but I don't think it makes the game "better." It's more like tweaking & bonuses. The world config would make the game better, & more enjoyable for all. Again, my 2 cents representing a different portion of the population. Have fun! Rellimarual
I don't love combat, either, and when I first learned DS I appreciated being able to tweak the world settings to make things easier. Over time, though, I moved to using the defaults. I'm not good at kiting, but I can do it. I probably would have given up without that option, so I think it's a great thing, especially for people new to the game. But it also totally makes sense that it may not be possible until the full release. If you're willing to wait, you'll get what you want. giodelmar
World config this early would be bad since game is still in early access. I agree with what TheCorporatePuppet posted above.
