dthorn88
They need a serious rework. Or combat from boats/boat degradation needs a rework. I was on day 124 and got the usual "i'm gonna need a bigger boat" warning. So I see the first coming as I'm headed for land and then a wave spawns immediately in front of me and I hit it and of course the shark behind me catches up and gets a nibble, as do the many others that of course have arrived. Armored boat gets stun locked and sunk in less than six seconds. There is no way to combat them at sea, and if someone says "just go to land and fight the regular hounds" I will be a little disappointed. You should be able to handle anything with proper prep and sea hounds are currently a death sentence after day 50 or so. An armored boat shouldn't take the same amount of damage as a raft IMO. ****, increase the cost of the boat to 8 boards 5 rope and 20 seashells and make it reduce incoming damage by 70% or something. I know its early access so i'm just trying to state my opinion and give ideas, I'm a little salty but I think I presented decent ideas. any feedback or your own strategies would be gladly received! Unless its "get to land." OH P.S. tried gunpowder barrels also was a big fail. Can't stay to close to them or i'll take damage as well so they're basically worthless against sharx. VeryDead
Sharx are indeed hard to fight besides the usual, "Get to Land" strategy. Due to how boat speed works, it's very difficult to kite a Sea Hound. As I mentioned in a topic alike this one, the best advice I can offer if you're at sea is to attempt to divert their attention by getting them to aggro a Whale or Dogfish. Water Beefalo work as well. Overall, best advice I can give you is to evade groups of them. Until there's something like a tooth trap at sea, there's not much to counter them then besides what I mentioned. dthorn88
Definitely. I think ballphines should have growth phases and/or should do more damage and have health equal to sharx. Also craftable cocomines? Coconade recipe plus two sea weed seems fair as coconades are pretty expensive. I think water pikes could be cool, made from 8 logs/2flint/5 gears, set them near base for a defensive measure. Or electricity based weapons that would be useless on land without rain but deal massive damage at sea (200 flat damage)and include an arcing effect to help with mobs. Rellimarual
With a fast sail you can dodge them near the shore, then after they all (or mostly) spawn, kite them from the land.
rouxdoux
I was just replying to a similar topic. Here's my idea: I would really like to see the boat cannon changed so that it would be more effective against fast mobs like sea hounds and swordfish. It would be a good reason to invest in building it. Right now I just see no reason to build it if I can ham bat my way through slow mobs like clockwork knights and whales etc and there's no viable way to deal with sea hounds other than run. This would also make sea battle more interesting since you need to prepare for it separately.
DeputyDeath
Yeah, the sea hounds are mega overpowered right now. I was thinking that they would attack you rather than your boat at first, and would only target your boat if you died. That way, you could fend them off if properly prepared with armour and a weapon, but at the same time they could really screw your world up if they get you when you have low health or otherwise vulnerable. alexeiwc3gosu
You can play as Wendy, unleash the power of ABIGAIL and let those little sharks SUFFER!!!
justjasper
Speargun ammo is good because you can get shots in from a distance, but they're pretty resource intense and it takes 2 shots a piece to take out a sea hound, and I prefer to save them for quickly taking down whales. GalloViking
Hum... As far as I know, the new boss Tigershark is neutral to the player, but aggressive against other mobs. If you try to bait sea hounds toward him, he should destroy them as soon as he sees them.
padelno91
with many threads about the shark hounds posted, im pretty sure the devs will address this on the next patch

It's working as intended."
Misaki
There really needs to be a boat with ~50 health but superior near-human like maneuverability so you can put your kiting skills to test on them. Right now boats are completely useless for kiting.
Ginosaji
you people are disregarding the power of poison. it makes it possible to kite sharx for me atleast when i see lone wolf ones. I don't even use the fastest possible combination on sea, it's armoured boat with the slow snakeskin sail. so it's totally possible when they're poisoned to get hits in without taking boat damage, but it only works when there's 1 hound engaging the player. It also seems like people are only complaining about poison instead of utilizing this mechanic for them self while in combat. In the very first versions of the game it was not advisable to use poison yourself to infect creatures because it could backfire on yourself, if you ever get hit by this creature. This has been removed from the game now so grab your poison spear and mess stuff up! That also makes the Tigershark fight a lot more easier. once it has been poisoned i'm able to do up to 5 melee weapon swings on it while on the boat. I've been avoiding the poison spear for that very reason. I'm glad that they changed that mechanic Dealing with sea hounds after day 50 is still a problem though. GalloViking
Somewhat off-topic but I agree with poison. AFAIK if you poison an ennemy, its poison will never disappear, and the said ennemy WILL die from it after a some time. Also, we need a poison grenade of some sort for bigger packs. Poison coconade?
