[Idea] For message in a bottle(s)

Last night as i was exploring and hoping to find some treasure, i thought "wouldn't it be cool if some of these messages were fake and actually brought you to pirates or something of that sort?"

So instead of finding treasure at where the giant X is, you would find some sort of mini boss (A group of pirates? or maybe just one pirate?) and the chances of this happening would be fairly low.
This would also open up the opportunity for sea treasure! (The X could be on land or the ocean).
Then, you could fight the boss for loot that only they can drop? Maybe a new weapon or materials for a boat that can carry friendly mobs? (The possibilities!)

I haven't thought about the details fully but i just thought it would be fun. I really think this DLC is missing some pirate action (:

Hi ! in my opinion , most of treasure i found .... can't be called a treasure but trash thing like compass blue print , simply buch of doublons or stuff like that. In hang ten , treasure hunting was the most exciting thing , but now , i think its just a wasting time. The profit is nothing compare to the time you loose for dig this treasure.

Not true.  There's a chance  to find full thulecite set

i am taliking about my experience , i found this set in hang ten , not in eye of tigershark .... i tested the loot rate by using a map reveler mod , and just gathering message in bottle and check the chest , most of them are garbage.

   By the way , i was explaining i prefer not loosing time , especialy in the first year. When you are installed , its more easy the to do treasure hunting ( even if i think hunting wales is more efficient and the payback is huge ). Then , when you past the first year , itemst you find easily can be allready in your possession or was allready prototyped.

  On my test with the map reveler mod , i didn't found thulecite set , i didn't found obsidian set , i didn't found dumbrella , i don't say its impossible to find ( i said most of them , not all of them ).

  Just thinking a fake treasure allready exist , like find chest with 1 doublon. Add explosion and be killed by a treasure will be obviously extremly rough ( a trapped chest with poison will be less punitive and can be countered by wearing an antivenom , its just an exemple ).

   I really need to don't post answer in one minute and i should past more time on how i can explain my though better , so i reword my previous post like this :

 

"I think its an excellent idea to add more feature and make the loot more attractive than they are now , because i think most of them are anecdotal. I prefer more rare treasure , but with a real payback "

   Sometimes i am formulate my though in a negative way , and i know that , so i hope this correction of my previous post seams more positive.

I deffenitivly 100% agreed ! we need more piratery !

Honestly I'm not into the idea of finding something completely not worth your time (like a poisonous chest*/ explosive).

I like the idea of things carrying well into late game when you're 100+ days into your world. So that you always have something to look forward to and something to keep you busy and working.
The way I'm thinking about finding this mini boss is similar to how koalaphants/varg works in RoG, the chances increasing the more days you've lived through. Which makes it an incentive to live longer and to go out and find bottled messages to get a chance at the mini boss.

*A poisonous chest could also work! But the contents of it would definitely have to be worth the effort (maybe good weapons/ tools?). In addition to that an item that you can craft/find to equip (like a glove) can help prevent the poison or you could as you've said, carry an antivenom (:

Treasure chests as they are now are only rarely worth the time and effort, i agree. So if a new mechanic or feature was added to it, i think it would really increase the incentive to go out and look for messages.

Ho man , thats a real good idea ! this add some things for late game , and the " varg " idea is so cool !

A poison chest can't change the weather (because it would make little sense) so, the only other way that would make sense is for it to explode into a cloud of poison within that island? In which case, the gas mask and armor would be used and the poison will go away within a day. 

Personally, I was just thinking of it being coated in poison (maybe even have thorns around it?). So that maybe a new item such as a glove could be added to protect your hands while opening it (and it would be equipped in the tools slot with limited uses/durability).

Ho yhea like the cursed grey chest in binding of isaac ^^ i get it ! you know they are good loot inside , but you can't open it if you didn't found the protection before ! haha very frustating feature , and if you want open it without the protection , it's at your own risk ( hope the loot is woth if you do that ! ). that's sound good for me.

Haha yes! I was thinking of that chest from isaac (:
If you try to open the chest without some protection it would do a set amount of damage (maybe increasing damage the more days you've lived since antivenom at that point probably isn't hard to make?) and you will be poisoned. If you open it with the protection you'll be completely safe from both the damage and the poison. The loot that's in the chest can be a good weapon/armor or maybe even something to make a certain season easier to live through? There's a lot of possibilities!

thought klei said they were gonna try to erradicate any kind of cheap death from the game

so when you die its entirely your fault

although i think they could use the gunpowder chest with valuable items trick that already exists in survival and rog
putting you under pressure and forcing you to choose quickly but still giving you enough time to escape
