Island Shapes/Biome Locations Suggestions

Recommended Posts

Hello DS Community!

I have been playing DS since the vanilla early beta... i remember the Birds and the Bee's update years ago... good stuff... I am so proud of how far DS has come and I am constantly impressed with the skill and genius of Klei, so much so, that I have personally purchased dozens of copies for friends, and/or convinced them to purchase the game (I can be very convincing).

All praise aside, I do have one piece of feedback that I would like to get voiced to Klei and it has to do with the WorldGen/Island Shapes.

One thing that throws me off about this game is that the islands have 'unnatural' shapes and that you can end up with a jungle biome right up against the ocean. I would like to propose that Klei/Capy look into tweaking the world gen so that

1. islands have more naturally occurring shapes (more circular/smooth edged and less 'jagged'/triangular) and that

2. Only certain biomes can be adjacent to water (beach, rocky/volcanic biome; while the jungle and other types of biomes are surrounded by water adjacent biomes).

I do wish to add that any biome should be able to be adjacent to the mangrove biome, but direct contact with the ocean should be buffered with an ocean compatible biome.

I think that at least implementing my second suggestion would help foster a greater sense of realism to the world of DSS.

I am excited for what changes the future holds :-). Keep on Keepin' on!

Warm Regards,

P.S. What say ye, community?

Just had another idea... how cool would it be if an island could spawn entirely surrounded by a mangrove forest?

I actually had this in a map. It wasn't actually entirely surrounded...one tile on a grassland part was against the water, but the entire rest of the island was surrounded by mangrove, and the grassland and some jungle was in the middle.

YAS!

I think that sounds great and should be implemented, but they should also make it so that bigger islands can spawn with more of a mainland feel to them rather than just "here is some beach, jungle, and mangrove so I think I'll settle here!" instead of a large island for you to explore and conquer that could contain possible giants in the future maybe?

maybe shipwrecked only giants??? like each season got it's own new giants!!! maybe godzilla... :v

I like having jungle islands and other types go right to the edge because otherwise I can't know at a glance what type of island it is. It does look a little odd now that I think of it, but it never bothered me before. Also, there is some kind of large island that you can find- I may just be extremely lucky but in my maps there seems to always be one very large island containing almost all of the different biomes right next to the spawn island.

1. islands have more naturally occurring shapes

about naturally occurring shape, here is my point:

naturally occurring shape can be generated by 2D Fractale dimension algorithm, the generated shape is very natural. this algorithm is usually used in 3D film making (planet modeling in Star War) and scientific simulation!

about the second one,KLEI may want to invite a geographer
