Why cant we craft bottles from sand?

Recommended Posts

Man have you ever seen a stranded man take a handful of sand, heat it up to melting temperature, and mold it into the shape of a bottle with his bare hands?

...But then again, I've also never seen a man make a functioning human heart out of 3 tufts of grass and some bug organs.

So I guess it's all fair game.

I thought of the glass from sand thing instantly and figured it was available down the road in a crafting tab ...

But if it isn't in the game and it's as hard to find bottles as you say, I think it'd be fair to craft 20 sand into 1

bottle . Of Course requiring the chimnea.       :D

But if you can't and bottles are really that hard to come by ...

I used to think they were...  and then I found 6 on a single island.  Mind you, 5 were from a harmless skeleton set piece, the last from a message-in-a-bottle.

I'd love to be able to make bottles!  Using sand and like a torch or something.  Or sand and a jelly fish.

Or, perhaps, some sort of interaction between sand and one of the magma jets?

Just died after 39 days to a swarm of shark hounds lol and ya bottles seem fairly rare think i came across like 3-4 total. and considering the amount of recipes that requires 2 bottles per def needs to be looked at being added to a recipe no clue why it isnt.

Making bottles craftable from sand wouldnt necessarily make the game easier either .

Which is a point that needs to be made I feel because I'm sure the devs

don't just constantly want to" make the game easier "

If i had to dig up 20 sand to make 1 bottle and it had to be in a chimnea that

would take me away from all the other things i should/could be doing .

I think it would be a balanced addition considering what it takes to make a

chimnea and the time it would take to gather 20 sand .

It would also make the game more fun !!

Because every pirate needs a telescope to see where there goin'   ( which isnt necessary but ITS FUN !!!)

Item: Bottle

Crafting  tab: Refine/survival (which one?)

Recipe: 20 sand

Crafting station required: Chimnea

Description:    (uh... you guys think of this one) (well, you kinda thought of everything else except the tab)

How's that?

Some games I've played that had craftable glass required both sand and ash or soda ash.  Soda ash, if I recall correctly, was made by burning seaweed.  Either one could work, though I think since we have roasted seaweed it might require cooking that twice.  Since most crafting recipes require at least two components, it would fit the established pattern.  Maybe 10 sand plus 5 ash/soda ash?

If Klei thinks that's still too easy, they could also require a tool.  Maybe something made of flint, rocks, or seashells?  Ooh, maybe a glassblower made of bamboo for the tube, then the flint/rock/seashell for the tip to protect it from burning?

Why 20 sand?? Good night, this isn't some Rust clone where the resource costs are grindy expensive. 3 sand seems fair considering you're spending good shovel durability to get just 2 at a time and sand isn't that plentiful atm. I agree bottles need some way to be replenished though, they seem to be used for items that will break eventually, and frankly are too hard find to spend them on a trap that's going to get you barely any food

No, you just cant take a tiny pile of sand and perfectly craft a bottle. Sand is renewable at the moment while bottles are very sparse. Sand piles are everywhere. EVERYWHERE (Ah, got it in my shoes!!). Shovels, it would take %80 durability to dig up 20 sand (4 x 20) so that's not even a full shovel! When you craft bottles you should get like 2 but 20 is pretty reasonable considering what you go through just to get 1 or 2 anyway.

20 anything in Don't Starve isn't reasonable, I question if you've played the base game or RoG at all, no recipes at all come nearly close to that. And again, sand is not that common, there will likely be a couple of islands that are sand pile heavy, but there's not much beyond a dozen piles on any island, even still that kind of resource cost is the kind of bad balancing that makes games like Rust, and the Forest boring and grindy. And if the fact that I've only survived this latest ~2 week run of mine by regularly island hopping to scavenge the tiniest morsels of food and resources to craft with, you can't afford to be spending this much time and resources on one or two bottles.

guess what . if you cant find a bottle you can craft one.  who says it needs to be fair .

you can find them normally so its not necessary to craft them .  just something you COULD do.

its easy to dig up 20 sand and build a science machine in the first day.

I'm wondering whether or not you've played the vanilla game or ROG based on nothing at all aswell.

Btw i have survived for over 300+ days in both.

YES!  I love the magma jets I open every single one of them!

Bottles should be 5 or 10 sand to craft. Soda ash could be an ingredient as well, as mentioned earlier.

that's way too few unless you had to had to go thru extra steps and use ash as well.

and it would have to be first refined into glass then the glass used to craft a bottle.

3 sand per 1 glass,  5 glass + 3 ash for a bottle.

this way you could use glass as a crafting material.

1 glass for the telescope ?

My best day in the base game of Don't Starve is 331 (deleted it so I can make SW slot). I have screen shot of this. My best day in RoG is only 61, but I don't play it much (or at all, really). And seriously, comparing this game to Rust and The Forest is like comparing Fallout to Mad Max. 20 sand is easy to get and I have a lot of spare time You don't really need bottles. Get good or go home.
