I just found out shipwrecked comes out tommorrow so this is probably a bad time but oh well.

I've done nothing but work on this mod for the past 3 months and I'm so excited to show this off.
I can't beleive I'm doing this, this is way too ambitious for only my second mod but I've made it this far so..

YEA THAT'S RIGHT. I'M TURNING THIS INTO A FIGHTING GAME. GET PUMPED.

FORGET COMBAT.LUA, WHO NEEDS THAT. I've replaced the combat system with my own components of hitboxes and hurtboxes. And much of the movement has been replaced with launchgravity.lua and jumper.lua

(Here I'll just copy/paste the video description into the post so you don't have to look it up on youtube)

Smashup; a work-in-progress Don't Starve mod that changes the game's genre into a Super Smash Bros style fighting game! This teaser trailer shows a very unfinished version of the mod, so you can expect the final product to change a lot. (including more than two playable characters.)
The song used in this trailer is a slightly edited (by me) version of Lone Digger by Caravan Palace. https://youtu.be/TbsBEb1ZxWA
For those of you wondering how accurately this mod simulates the real Super Smash Bros, it's pretty close. The knockback formulas are identical to those in the game. It even includes many of the smaller features like Sheild-stun, hitstun, sheild push, teching, parrying, and others.

I re-drew and animated the characters to more closely resemble how they look in the official Don't Starve trailers and portraits. (that being said, I may completely redraw Woodie's face because it came out weird)

Anyone interested in seeing announcements and updates on the mod's progress can follow the "#ssb mod prototype" tag on tumblr, where I'll also be talking about current progress and future plans for the mod.

Hah, making DST to a Arena Fighter. I got myself a chuckle.

It's definitely one of the more unique and bigger mods out there for sure.

You put A LOT of effort into this, everyone can tell definitely.

I hope all that works pays off! I'm eager to play it. Good luck!

I wasn't going to make another video, but I just wanted to show this off because

dang, I have really outdone myself with this.

Here, I'll leave the actual youtube link here in case anyone wants to go read the video description: https://youtu.be/KJI10TI9y_g

And now to start working on stage elevation and edges.

Wait, so I could shoot a thin enough blowdart into Wilson's groin and it wouldn't even hurt him? *cue asp* O___O

Oh boy, I don't think I'd make any hitboxes that small d:

But I'll probably adjust those hurtboxes anyways

And here's another one:

oh my god this combo is way too powerful

It has been maybe two hours since I started working on stage elevation. I am unstoppable

Is this only for DS or for DST or both?Because i can't really understand how will this work in DS

It is for DS. The idea is for it to be local multiplayer, like two people playing on one keyboard. The current control scheme actually has plenty of room for two players, and even a c-stick for each player (just a second set of directional keys for smash attacks/aerials in the air).

I also wanted to try out making a cpu. And although I can't promise it'll be any good, I feel pretty confident I could at least make something that fights back.

(you know those fight sequences in the trailer? Lol that wasn't me playing. Neither of them.)

Although I haven't ruled out the idea of also making a DST version, I REALLY doubt it would play very well. Fighting games and open world survival games are very different.

DST servers were not designed to host fighting games. It would almost definitely be incredibly laggy. And not just a little bit laggy. Like; un-playably laggy.

probably.

I actually don't really know anything about server stuff, but I hear it works something like that.

(you know those fight sequences in the trailer? Lol that wasn't me playing. Neither of them.)

The only way to keep your general AI in match: another general AI. This will definitely not end our lives twice as fast.
