Caves Beta - September 23rd Update

ToNiO55, now im back where I started when I asked my first question. The worlds start and connect fine, but as soon as I try to use a sinkhole I get the following error and are back to character selection instead of the caves.

Since it says player data missing, here are whats in the directory it references in the player data missing error message:

0000000003 minimap

 

Here is whats in the 0000000003 file, the minimap seem to be non-letters so its just gibberish:

im sorry for you but i have bad news

 

this is doesn't work on file system reiserfs :(

 

the fact that it is partitioned in this way,i think this has been done by your hosting (or maybe by you?)

 

often on linux (depend of distribution), the file system to ext4,ext3 or for old system ext2 or ntfs for dual-boot with windows

 

unfortunaly i don't know so much about reiserfs

I experiencing one bug: When I go into a cave from the upper world, I see just the connecting dialog endlessly (over 5 minutes). The tcp-connections are changing later to CLOSE_WAIT. When I reconnect, I find myself right before the cave entrance and enter it again with the same waiting dialog. Sometimes I can enter - sometimes not - doesn't matter if I am alone in the upper world or if there are 6 other players. I am not sure, but whenever I managed to enter into these caves after some tries, I am the only one there.

 

This happens on several servers and on the same servers I also don't ve problem sometimes to enter the caves, if I remember right.

 

No mod issues - same with or without mods.

Also, a comment about blue mushtree forests in caves.

 

Here, SetDensityInRange sucks to control the spores. The spores follow you (or anything else) and get out of the range.

Given the huge amount of mushtrees spread tight over a huge area, they just keep popping out spores.

If it's winter and you are in a blue mushtree forest, your fps as a host will drop severely.

And by severely I mean from consistent 60 to consistent 20.

 

Clients will experience lag too. As they do with many entities on screen.

 

Red mushtrees are more spaced out, and green mushtrees aren't that many in comparison to both red and blue.

 

I was playing with a i5-3550 @ 3.30 Ghz.

 

Good to know. I'll try something a bit more robust for these then.

 

So! items to report: DST_Cavesbeta Works over LAN! You just can't let on to the game that you're playing over LAN. set it up as Lan_only_server = false, then look for it on LAN and voilá! presto chango, we all go to caves-oh.

 

However, when delving, don't crowd the stairwell. My wife and I couldn't both enter the caves at once or we'd get "Hmm, token error." When I went in by myself earlier, no problem. When we went in later, (different sinkhole, same world) Token Error. After logging back in and spelunking one at a time, it spawned us at a Jury-Rigged Portal. Weird. This turned out to be our ruination, as we had to go searching for a way back up, in winter, with dwindling supplies.

 

Also, is there any way for chester to come with us? Inventory management becomes a pain when dealing with the multitude of different items provided by the underground.

 

So when you say "both at once", you mean the caves could only have one occupant at a time, one of you had to leave before the other could enter?

 

As far as spawning at the portal, that's on the todo list, as is chester. :)

Hola, probando las cuevas e notado que cuando uno muere dentro de ellas, ocurre el  reinicio del mapa y sale para poder elegir personaje, pero el reinicio solo afecta a la cueva y al personaje, no al mapa superior, el mapa queda con las estructuras de antes del reinicio, al igual que los mobs con un cambio,  los cerdos siempre están como werepig.

Not in survival, no... you can make them endless for now and get almost the same effect at least.
