Ridd
The Long Dark is beautiful, has a good soundtrack, and is challenging. Get that if you haven't already, it's a pretty solid experience even in Alpha.
shigad
Most of those are actually made with SFM.the older ones (before 2012 i think, maybe 2011) are made with G-Mod Well people commonly throw around that games like GTA and Saints Row are Sandbox games so I guess that's my definition of sandboxes. am pretty sure you mean open world? PhelsarusBeel
If you want a somewhat different approach to a Survival game you might want to take a look at Craft the World http://store.steampowered.com/app/248390 Although it shares more similaritys with a Management game (as you controll a Tribe of Dwarfes instead of just surviving alone) it also has the resource collecting and Crafting system of other Survivalgames (mostly MCs crafting interface although it works pretty good here) Otherwise only other game that comes to mind that no one mentioned so far is Darkout http://store.steampowered.com/app/257050/ More of a game like Terraria however here light plays a big role as it weakens monsters and is one of the main gameplay elements (also the game can get realy freaking dark as in blakc screen dark if you don't take torches with you)
PhelsarusBeel
So im actualy suprised that no one actualy brought up Dwarf Fortress again maybe not a true survival game but it still has alot of the mechanics of one (although it also has an adventure mode) http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/ Just note that the game is still under heavy development (and probably will still be in 15 years ;D) but in no other game can you expierience a roit of dwarfs because another one went insane and decided to turn everything that crosses his path into leathergloves (yes thats a thing that can happen). Just note that its also entirely made with ASCII-Graphics that that the interface is also a tad clunky (no mousesupport sadly) If you want a more streamlined version that however lacks the somewhat insane nature of DF there is still gnomoria http://store.steampowered.com/app/224500/ Its a bit more refined basicly having most of Dwarf Fortress core elements but a lot more streamlined (like an actual tutorial) Also for the ones that want a survival game set in space there is Space Engineers. http://store.steampowered.com/app/244850/ Again kinda suprised no one brought this one up but hey at least now someone did
