Updating an old world

Greetings all!

I trekked through some worlds, speed-exploring the map, until I found a very pleasant one. Now we are still in Beta and I would like to know if there is a chance I will be able to update my old world to the final release.

It might be useful to add this to the FAQ.

Yes your world will keep being updated as we got through more and more updates, at least the last number of patches have been this way and I see no reason why this wouldn't stay as the case

Maybe, but doubtfull, there will probably be new biomes/areas that will be added in a future patch, meaning that you current world wont contain those. To have a world that has all the content present, you would need to generate a new world.

that would be nice to keep our Beta worlds updated but implementing new biomes seems indeed quite difficult.

Honestly I figure making new worlds every time at will is almost an exploit as some worlds are much more forgiving than others. It's too bad we can't get some kind of world difficulty meter on the screen. Like "Day 399 infants play world" or "Day 5 Hell's Inferno world".

Rerolling worlds is a valid strategy but a guy who lasts forever in a really easy boring world shouldn't get more respect than the one who survives half that long on a world with no bees, no pigs, no tall birds, few rocks, and 50 spider nests.

Hopefully they will impelent something like a seed system. Like the one in minecraft

They have distant plans to add a beach and maybe other biomes but they are definitely not a priority. I do see issues with new mobs and things that are added on world generation. But if you're surviving that long, you would probably want to start over anyway to experience the changes.

The thing with me is that the fun with the game is the variety. If you reload the same world doing the same builds over and over is REALLY boring. I want challenges. Finding new things on new worlds is the fun thing about the game.

I tend to create a new world after every game over I get. I like not knowing what kind of world I am going to be dumped into. I do hope, however, that my world will update itself as game updates come, as I am on day 100-something and doing very well. I don't fancy the idea of having to commit suicide and ending my awesome run to experience an update.
