Apologies this must be like the 10000000th time you've seen this question.

Klei is currently (slowly) sending beta applicants four keys each. Your best bet it to find a friend who already has keys or wait until you get a key yourself. And no, I don't have a key, so don't ask.

How do I acquire one of those "keys"?

Sometime around September, there were these signups. They closed like a week after opening 'cause they were flooded with requests, and only recently, they started handing out keys to the people who signed up. A lot of people who have signed up did not get their keys via email yet, so there're a lot of people being impatient and begging for keys.

I'm assuming you haven't signed up for the thing, which means you'll have two or three options:

1) Get lucky and have someone give you one of their keys (which is extremely unlikely, considering there are dozens of people that are willing to pay up to $15 in steam games or whatever for a single key)
2) Wait until DST's official release (which would be somewhere around late November, if I had to take a guess

3) Be hopeful for Phase 3 of DST Closed Beta; the people who tested the closed beta the most will likely receive extra keys which they can hand out to fellow forumers or their friends. Klei may also decide to reopen the Closed Beta signups

Steam Keys are slowly being distributed to people who signed up. You get four keys and some people have been giving them away to other people here. They're in high demand but short supply.

edit: I forgot to mention, they sometimes give them out in their weekly dev streams!

To add to what has been said:

"Phase 3 - "OMG I missed the Beta form, my life is now full of eternal sadness."

Fear not. Once we get a sizable group of people and everything checks out, in addition to distributing more keys to beta applicants, we will extend the circle a bit more by granting additional invite keys to people who participate in the beta the most. So, if you are given a friend key, and your friend uses that key, it will increase your chances of receiving more keys.

This means that if you have lots of friends who want to play, there is a good chance you will be able to make that happen. This also means that if you didn't get the opportunity to register for the beta, you still have a good chance to get an invite from a friend.

So, while we are a little bit behind our end of summer goal we are now in Phase 1 and are getting close to starting Phase 2. We are all really excited about what Don't Starve Together has now become, and we are thrilled to see that you are all excited as well. " - JoeW

If you have new questions about keys, or want to request some, try searching the key depot sub forum.
