How many bee mines does it take to kill 3 spider queens?

Recommended Posts

If you've read in the "Where can I find the gears" thread, you'll know that I died in Ruins and thus all of my important stuff are there. Problems go worse: I didn't eliminate the spider nest in the cave on time and thus it transforms into a spider queen. I remember that there are 2 more Tier3 dens and they probably will be queens soon enough. *headdesk* I should not be too curious about the cave.

The question is the thread's name. How many bee mines should be used? Apart from spider queens, there also are itty bitty spider minions and Depth Worms.

The answer to this question is hypothetical, as Bee Mines do not do a fixed amount of damage.

If you want to have a guaranteed kill on a spider queen you would need to use gunpowder but as it stands - gunpowder is always in extremely short supply. (I'd save all of mine for the Ancient Guardian anyways.)

However it can be argued that you could see just how fast bees are at killing spider queens.

Since each mine spawns 4 bees and each Bee has

  • 100 Health
  • 10 Damage
  • 2 Attack Period
  • 3 Attack Range

Whilst the Queen has

  • 1250 Health
  • 80 Damage
  • 3 Attack Period
  • 5 Attack Range

Not including all the spiders that almost always surround the queen, she'd be able to kill a bee in 2 hits. If she could even hit the bees before they kite away with their shorter attack period. (Though she has longer range.)

The next question then becomes how fast would the queen die if every single bee were attacking it at once?
How long is the attack period in actual seconds? 2 seconds? When I fight bees it sure doesn't feel like that!
We'll say 2 seconds for the sake of argument then:

1250 divided by 40 (Bees x Damage) x 2 (Seconds) should give us our answer for one Bee Mine to kill the queen if NONE of the Bees die.

That's 31.25 x 2, which is 62.50. 1 Minute, two seconds and a half. Pretty fast, but this would only count if every bee were constantly attacking and not kiting away, which is normal bee behavior. We can't measure how long it would take in this case. My guess would be about 3x this - also if there are spiders guarding the queen the bees will die or not only attack the queen.

Well lets amp up the number of bees, and say there were about 16 Bees, then lets say there were 28 Bees.

1250 divided by 160 x 2 = 15.625

15 seconds. That's pretty damn good for a bunch of bees.

1250 divided by 280 x 2 = 8.928 seconds.

Again the variables come into play with the spiders and such. If you have traps in large supply my suggestion is to set up traps in some far off area away from your base, bait the spider queen and her minions into following you - then take them to the traps. Let the spiders catch themselves in the traps, set up some Bee Mines and let the Queen figure out the rest. For safety sake I would take no less than 6 Bee mines with me for this endeavour as they would be able to kill the boss in a matter of seconds if every bee attacked her constantly at once.

Good luck! You may want to find alternate methods of dealing with a queen though! ( Who has this many bug nets for Bee Mines?) Also I didn't read but you have to deal with 3 queens at once..? That's alot of Bee mines and traps. Well good luck if they're all after you at the same time and be careful!

Also how many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop?

I probably wouldn't go back down there, you may die again, but as for the number of bees, it will take a lot of time to get enough to kill ONE spider queen, but THREE?!

It would be way more effective if you bring rock lobsters or bunnies with you. Just remeber to not bring meat, if you going to use bunnies, and to not leave the cave until you are sure the rock lobsters are not following you anymore (they breed like crazy on the surface and end up ruining the world).

Or you could just ignore them, it's easy to run away as they are very slow.

I plant spider dens near my own camp so I always have constant supply of silks (that's why I never worry about bug nets >_>)

I'm not sure if I have to deal with 3 queens or not but at the very least one is blocking my only (very) narrow pathway to my Ruins entrance. I remember that there are 2 more Tier3s +1 Tier1 (after the queen is spawned). Life's pretty screwed for me when both my lantern and my miner's hat are down there ._.

Thank you so much for your time to help calculate it for me.

How do I use the rock lobsters? There's a lot down here.

Somebody make a Myth about this so we can submit it to Mythbusters; they'll figure it out!

Jaime, it's Wintertime, so time for you to leave M5 Industries and return to MacTusk camp!

Feed them minerals like you would pigs meat. Just remember NOT to take them to the surface while they are following you (without having a pen to keep them in ready if you do)  or their asexual reproduction speed  will make rabbit multiplication look like long division!

Grab 3 or 4 Rock Lobsters. Help them out when you can. But for the most part let them do the heavy lifting. Best bet with the spider queens is to hang around them long enough to let them replant themselves. Think it's only 2 days before they find a new spot to plop. Stay out of her range so she doesn't agro on you.

If I was you, I'd make a new miner hat to go down and get your stuff. Always good to have a backup anyway.
