Is local multiplayer going to be a thing?

How you'll play.

So how will your games be played? Well we aren't all the way there yet, but we are working toward a few things here. This is pretty straightforward stuff.

First, dedicated servers. We will provide a standalone server that will allow you to set up your own dedicated servers on whatever host you want whether it be from home or from a 3rd party host.

In addition, you will also be able to play local games that you will not need to run a dedicated server to play. So, all you couples and families can not starve together

Has there been any confirmation that, by local play, they mean on the same machine? Too many devs say "local" and just mean LAN. Also, would this play with two controllers plugged in? I haven't picked up this game since before controller support was added at all, don't even know if it works well.

Not sure this is going to be implemented into the game, but if you want that there is already a mod for it.

Plus if you have a controller program you can map the individual buttons for each controller to keys on your keyboard, easy peasy.
I have no idea if controller support even works on the PC. Good luck though!

There is, indeed, controller support for PC. That's actually how Kevin tested it when he was coming up with a good control scheme for the ps4.

Thanks for the suggestion. However, I'd rather wait for actual full-blown multiplayer than rely on a mod. I'd just like confirmation that local does mean same-PC. I wish "LAN" didn't count as local multiplayer these days, it's led me to make a lot of poor purchases!

imagine having share 1 computer chair, 1 keyboard, and 1 screen with... whoever the hell is in your house at the moment. (my opinion, shouldn't be happening)

1 computer chair, 1 keyboard, and 1 screen !?

you mean 1 couch, 2 Joypads and 1 TV?

Then why not hook up some controllers and get some more chairs... logic my friend...

Exactly.

The idea is those who want to play in their own home could and those who want to play on an online community can. Thus the LAN. Anyway, we still have LAN parties, WiFi, and hotspots, so "one LAN" is easily done.

So wait. You're saying LAN is better because you don't have to share a keyboard and a screen? So in your opinion, it would be better to buy a new computer than two controllers? What the hell?

I wish they'd come out and give us an answer on this.

Or buy a new laptop, another computer isn't the best option, unless you've got a spare desk.

Or Klei could pull a "Battle Block Theater Control Scheme". Which means "One player cntrols with the Keyboard, the other with a controller (or 2 controllers).

I mean, that's not even a "Battleblock Theater" thing. That's just how ... most PC games with local multiplayer work! Two controllers or controller/keyboard, etc. I'm not saying "it's easy" I just wish I knew if that's what they were trying for.
