Why do the beefaloes keep respawning?

Recommended Posts

I was so sad when my Rock Lobster infestation killed off one of my Beefalo herds!

But lo and behold, they started spawning again out of nowhere. The game apparently marks a "spawn point" for them, after which they can still return once they are all killed off.

Which is EXCELLENT news for my Beefalo. But bad news for the Rock Lobster infestation, since they also have a marked spawn point, and will start spawning again even if they are all led back into the caves.

The real problem is there is no limit to the numbers that can spawn, it goes for beefalos and rock lobsters, having more than 100 beefalos and around 150 rock lobsters on the surface its quite bad for the game performance, fps drops and huge memory usage, cause of all this stuff running around.

There is a function in herd prefabs that removes the prefab if the herd is empty:

local function OnEmpty(inst)    inst:Remove()end

If you kill all rock lobsters/beefalos all of the herd prefabs would be empty and that would remove them from the world so no new beefalos/ rock lobsters should spawn.

As stated here they still spawn, so we have some strange bug with herd mechanics.

Yes.

I've been trying to exterminate a particular herd that spawns in the deciduous forest near my base, and I've killed them all 3x over the course of multiple seasons, but they still continue to respawn.

I guess even devs don't know why they keep respawning. There's nothing to do but turning them off via world options then. Thank for the info @_Q_

Maybe some herd member wandered far away from that area, but it is still a herd member, you can post save file here i will just make some debug prints from herd prefabs and see if you really killed all of them, its very interesting subject atm.
