Hey there all.

I am Cazzzy from JABAG Gaming and I was just wondering with the changes to rabbits the Reign of Giants what have people been favoring now for their main food source? Basically if anyone has a really good method or tactic and wants to share it that this could be the place to do it.

I was also wondering what everyone thought is the best change from RoG?

Let me know

Look forward to seeing what people think :-)

Cazzzy

P.s. If you want to watch Icyvenom and myself derping around on Don't Starve RoG then you can check out our brand new video at:

Thanks a lot!

Awesome gameplay and commentary :)

The two most resource effective and stat boosting foods to create using crock pots are honey ham and dragon pie. Obtaining dragon fruit seeds is made easier if you pick up seeds every time you see them. Plant them and eventually one will grow. Once it does feed it to the bird for more seeds and only focus on planning and re-growing them. To ensure you have a high chance of producing honey ham you need to add a meat value of 2 along with at least one honey. So 1 honey, 1 monster meat and 2 morsel will get you Honey ham. Dragon Fruit is even easier to make; 1 dragon fruit and 3 twigs or 3 berries is all you need.

Dragonfruit Seed Farming

There is only one way to farm dragon fruit seeds. As you start the game, always pick up seeds, every time you see a seed pick it up. Never eat or cook seeds. By the time you make improved farms, I recommend at least 4 improved farms to speed this process up, basically the more improved farms you have the faster the chance of getting a dragon fruit. Also make sure you have a bird cage with a bird trapped in it. Now all you do is plant the seeds you have collected.

Once they grow, if you don’t get a dragon fruit it doesn't matter, cook the vegetables/fruit you grew or store for use later. Then plant more of the seeds. Do this until you get a dragon fruit. Once you do DON’T eat it or cook it. Give it to the bird in the bird cage. This will double the dragon fruit seeds and give you one extra. Now plant both dragon fruit seeds in the improved farm plot and any extra seeds you have. Once the dragon fruit seeds have grown again feed it to the bird get the double seeds and replant. Keep doing this until you feel you have enough.

Remember even always save your seeds and always pick up seeds when ever you see them on the ground, you never know one of them will be a dragon fruit seed!

I basically dig up a bunch of moleworm holes during the day and whack the moleworms that come out with a hammer and pick them up. You can then place all the captured moleworms within a temporarily sealed pen near your base so they can all dig up new homes within that confined location instead of randomly everywhere.

They will respawn every dusk/night and all you have to do is place a mineral (I use rocks) near yourself while you relax at your firepit during the night or dusk and when they go after the rock and pop out of the ground, you can just hit them with a hammer, kill them, and put them in your ice box or on your drying racks.

Personally I try to turn all the small morsels I get from them into small jerky that I store in the icebox so I have food that lasts for up to 40 days and restores as much hunger as a cooked morsel, but with additional health and sanity. With 8 or so moleworm holes, drying racks, and a couple of iceboxes, you'll be set all year round since their holes don't seal up like rabbit holes, making them a constant food source.

The strategy that i use is plant a spider den near your camp and kill them every dusk. Eventually you will have tons of monster meat that you can turn into eggs (feeding it cooked to a bird in the birdcage) or simply make monster lasagna if you are playing as webber.

Also, honey still is a very good source of food. It's just a little harder to get on spring but i think it's worth it. Just remember to make 5+ beeboxes so you can stock a lot of honey quickly.

If you like exploring the ruins, you can make a sluper belt that will reduce drastically the speed of your hunger.

If you put - for example - at least 2 monster meat in the cookpot as Webber you will get more hunger for just eating the ingredients.

I would only do that if its spoiled (But you can cook it if thats the case) and if it becomes spoiled while cooked, sure turn it into monster lasagna or do something else with it. (Maybe give it to spiders since i dont think they care about how fresh it is)

I build all my Pig Houses about one and a half screens away from a big cluster of Frog ponds.

Anytime I want loads of meat, I just smack one Frog on the head, and lead them all to my pigs. Eventually a Frog will attack a Pig, and you will have a massive war.

Then just go around and pick up all the Frog legs that fall on the floor.

I leave them in my ice box until they are about to spoil, then I hang them on drying racks to make massive amounts of small jerky. Which I harvest and put back in my ice box, and they last for ages.

When the small jerky starts to go bad, I feed them to my birdcage to get fresh Eggs.

This gives you tons of small meats (and eggs), which provides huge flexibility to your crock pot cooking.

And whenever I go on a long expedition, say to the Ruins, I always bring a 20 stack of fresh small jerky, along with some crock pot meals. This gives you a fantastic way to restore large amounts of sanity, health and hunger. Nothing beats jerky for long expeditions.

Nice advert you got there. Despite of that, I fell for it and I actually enjoyed watching you guys, so I´ll probably check your channel out for future videos.

For food sources added in the DLC, Moleworms are brilliant. You just need to bait them with stone and you got yourself a free meal, and they re-spawn everyday, so they will last forever.

they can all dig up new homes

I never realized the moles could dig new homes. That was one thing that annoyed me with the rabbits, that they couldn't re-dig their holes if you dug one up. How did they get their holes in the first place if they can't dig!

Also I forgot about the shear amounts of different ways you can get food on this game. There are loads!

Ponds and fish are still nice source of Fish Sticks which are a great source of healing (+40 hp each) and not bad hunger filler. Fish can be dried to produce Small Jerkies for Cave\Ruin explorations (and healing). Its pretty much unlimited source.

Demerits:

 - Frogs are hostile and attack as herd.

 - You need a Spider farm and silk for Fishing Poles.

 - Fish also spoils quickly, so its best to store as jerkies and it is best to use Marsh version of the ponds (frogs are annoying).

As stated above, ponds not only provide fish, but also can be used to farm frogs with pigs for insane amounts of frog legs.

I prefer to have my base near to just one pond, so i can easily deal with frogs and fish in peace and a Pig Village close to pond cluster.

Edit: If I remember right in previous versions of DS you could make Fishsticks with just 3 Twigs and 1 Fish, making it one of the easiest and cheapest food to cook and awesome source of health. (I mean you could practically turn your Twig farm into food source...). Sometime later the recipe got nerfed, I guess, so now you cannot add more than 1 Twig into Crock Pot without getting Wet Goop instead of fishsticks. Too bad.

Especially if you are playing as Webber

Oh, right... There is one more way to feed of twig farm - 3 twigs + any kind of meat (even monster meat) = Kabobs. You can't use fish, but you can dry it to jerky and then use instead of meat. That means - you can easily feed of spiders\fish\moleworms and twigs (if you don't have berries) through whole winter.

If you put - for example - at least 2 monster meat in the cookpot as Webber you will get more hunger for just eating the ingredients.

Didn't knew about that. I rarely use monster lasagna so i don't memorize it's stats. Also, my only Webber run ended quite fast (on the positive side i learned what the old bell do)

There's food everywhere with RoG. Everything fights everything, you just have to pick up the meat most of the time.

Spring is great for that: when a frog rain begins, go near a herd of beefalos or some beehives, and wait until it stops. Come back the next day, the rutting beefalos or the angry bees will have declared war on the frogs and you'll have food for the season and then some.

Pop down a bird cage to turn half of your monster meat into eggs, and make pierogi using them and the other half of the meat along with some vegetables (mushrooms if you don't want to make farms). It's even better than jerky (except for sanity, but cooked green mushrooms, the Tam'o'Shanter or a nap fix that) and keeps just as long.

Food is easy to get from all sources. I don't know why people try to go for an easy food source like dragonfruit farms when theres a high chance its gonna get wrecked by bearger or deerclops of burnt down by dragonfly.

I dont even relocate berry bushes/ twigs / grass cuz they have much higher chance to burn if I do than if I leave them all spreaded out as they naturally occur on the map.

I had so much food I had entire stacks of beef jerky rot in some of my games.
