Just started my first adventure mode...

Recommended Posts

Hold me, I'm skeered.

I got to day 100 in vanilla game with Wilson and I thought maybe I'd give Adventure Mode a try. I don't expect to succeed, of course, but I think I started off pretty lucky with Archipelago as my first chapter. It's just jumping through wormholes to get the things, yes? Should I bother to set up a base? Nevermind, I know I should so that I can craft stuff to take to the next level with me. I did remember to build (but not place) an alchemy engine before I jumped through the door, so... yay me?

I'm only upset that I thought you could choose the 4 items from the get go, so I had a bunch of cool crap in my home world that I was going to take, but nope. :(  I probably would have picked the wrong stuff anyhow. IIRC, I was going to take a miner's hat, 10 meals of bacon and eggs, a stack of spider silk and...  *thinking* crap. I can't remember the last thing I was going to take! LOL

Ohh Adventure mode, the bane of my existence. Yeah I always got stuck on the stupid snow world freezing my butt off. I attempted it so many times and failed..then eventually got help with finishing it. Still worth it though to get Maxwell, he is awesome!

The most important thing in the first-ish worlds is to prototype as many useful items as you can, so you can make them later without having to build an alchemy engine or a shadow manipulator. Make sure to have your basics down ASAP. And if you can make a beefalo hat, take that with you until you finish King of Winter, makes things easier. A miner hat is also a good idea later.

Not sure if that alchemy engine you built before going to adventure mode is gonna be in your tabs there, I'd wager not. Always having a firepit, a tent and a crockpot pre-built so you can drop them anytime you need them in a pinch is a good idea though.

Yeah, I think it will be fun to try and play as Maxwell. I've only seen a little bit of gameplay with him. Hopefully it doesn't take me too long!

Aw, really? I won't be able to place the alchemy engine? That's a bummer. I guess it makes sense though since you're basically starting from scratch. Actually though... I think I might have clicked the science machine by mistake, so I might have that pre-built as well!

Good luck to you my friend, adventure mode is little devil to complete.

I personally played through with WX-78 because of the abundance of gears. Honestly it was a bit cheap cause WX-78 is pretty op but whatever, I did it and got both Maxwell and Wes so i'm happy.

Pre-built structures don't carry over from Survival Mode into Adventure Mode, although they will carry over through the various Adventure Mode worlds.

Gotcha. I didn't realize that. I thought I knew how to handle AM, but I see now I'm sadly mistaken. LOL!

Attempt #1: Was doing pretty well on Archipelago, I had 4/5 things on day 12 and then I got cocky trying to grab all the loot in a swamp. 2 tentacle spikes, koalephant meat, fish and frog legs!!! I want it all! Yeah... tentacle killed me.

Attempt #2: Started again, got King of Winter. I knew this would be pretty much impossible, but I figured I'd give it a go. Ran into MacTusk on day 2 and didn't even bother to fight- I was good as dead since I had already taken some cold damage.

Attempt #3: Got Game is Afoot. I don't remember what this one is, so I quit for the day. It's too stressful! haha

Also, I (wrongly) thought hounds didn't attack you in AM. And I also thought frog rain only happened in Cold Reception. I got both of those things in Archipelago. This game is out to get me.  :(

You can't always build a science machine when you first start Adventure Mode, so don't underestimate the usefulness of the grass suit. It blocks over half the damage of attacks and that can save your life.

Also, don't forget that Darkness is always the last world.

Nobody gets a break in adventure mode do they huh.

If you were to show a screenshot of the situation that might help. I would just try to set everything on fire with a fire staff.
