Reign of Giants: Is it worth the buy?

Recommended Posts

Ahah, does Alt+F4 still work if you do it quick enough?

Hey everyone,

While we're aware that some folks are using Alt+F4 to close their games, it's not a recommended way of exiting Don't Starve. Because Don't Starve doesn't support that behaviour - mainly force-closing the game using Alt+F4 - there's a chance that your save files might get corrupted or lost in the process.

despite alt+f4ing out, one cannot hide their shame from the morgue, so at least there's that.

how can you say if something is, and i quote, "worth the buy" without factoring in price? If it was 3000quid it wouldnt be worth the buy even if it had double the content. If the question had been "is RoG good?" then i wouldnt need to factor in price to answer. but that wasnt the question.

Who has factored in the price beyond "it's cheap"? How do you factor such a subjective thing. The notion of price in this instance is just to stressthat this can't be a flippant purchase, and arguing that it's cheap isn't arguing its value as much as stating how the individual subjectively feels.

The question really is 'granted $5 has an inflated value for me that's rather hard to budget for, what kind of returnwill I be likely to find in RoG?'.

Mind you, pirating is stealing and I'd rather no one do that to our beloved Klei - who have been more than generous with RoG.

I am going to add my two cents in, and I want to start by agreeing with @InaneDugong . The amount of content for its price may delight you, but saying that it doubles the content at such a "cheap" price isn't going to justify that the individual WILL enjoy the doubled content. @NergalJr did say he's tight on money and usually never gets that far in the game, so this is my opinion on him buying the DLC:

Are you currently enjoying the vanilla difficulty curve, or are you getting more frustrated over it? Consider if you are prepared for a higher difficulty curve, because that's what you're getting in RoG. All 4 seasons and Giants are the best way to put it without spoiling anything. If you're enjoying the permadeath-learning aspect of the game and don't mind dying in more dumb ways, I'd think it's worth it.

Well-put. RoG, as many have said, is a good place to venture if you want to "rejuvenate" your experience - which really implies that you've already gotten everything out of the Vanilla version already. Perhaps just stick with Vanilla and save your pennies for a rainy day?

But yes, no point reiterating what @aredshroom has said here as they're on the money with their advice (no pun intended).

I stopped playing the game for so long because I had already sunk eighty hours into it last year. I saw RoGs, bought it, and haven't put it down since. I honestly would not be able to return to the vanilla version, knowing what I know now. If you have ever spent more than four hours playing Don't Starve, than you will enjoy this DLC. I could have paid double what the price is, luckily, Klei is cool and didn't make me.

You will not find a better five dollar value out there.

:happypigs:  :yaypigs:

no no, apparently we're not allowed to factor price into our answer, apparently the worth of the game is the same wether it costs a penny or a million quid....

Right, right. Let me try that again.

You will not find a better...eeeh....Don't Starve expansion out there.

I did good right?
