I think of it like Nether. Would that be a fair comparison?

There is almost no reason to kill people in Nether. I would play it alot more if some pubstomper didn't join the server just to instantly kill everyone. Everyone was literally having friendly discussions, giving each other items, going on little missions by themselves; but then some jerk joins and shoots everyone regardless of different teams.

And those jerks are the most hated players in the Nether community, and the community is asking for a PvE only mode. What would be the point in killing people in Don't Starve? Eventually everyone will learn to only carry food, tools, grass, twigs, a spear around while hiding all their other items like in Nether. While players couldn't join in with 20 blowdarts, there will still be that one person who wants to just backstab other people.

While some form of PvP can exist in DS, it needs to be its own separate mode.

Its own separate mode would be boring, and so I'm obviously not for it. When I picture a pvp-only mode, I picture that being the only thing people do, continuously try to kill each other with no other purpose, and that's not what I want when I picture friendly fire enabled.

I can see myself playing DST like DS...at first. Then I'd realize that I get to that non-ending point where everyone has everything. I really hope that isn't their endgame.

This is assuming whatever new stuff they add doesn't change up things to how we're currently viewing them.

I would rather reach the point where I felt like there was nothing to do, instead of believing there was always going to be something to do; while I raged because I was cut down by people who just don't care.

Maybe a way to call followers off? Like if you accidentally hit your friend and your small army of pigmen that you hired to cut down trees barrel after them, should you be able to call them off? Or do you and your friend have to kill all of them now?

I feel that the bind attack key fixes this enough. It would be common sense for your friend to stay away when you're using the force attack key.

We remember the bad parts way more than the good. We shouldn't let the things that in reality don't happen the majority of the time limit how we play. I guarantee you'd barely have problems, especially in a game that I predict won't have as much in-and-out on servers, as large of a population cap, as Minecraft does.

After hours of grinding for a weapon, then losing that weapon short after because someone killed me, and watching as they sell the gun because its weaker than anything they got; I don't think the psycological thing applies there. Sure I killed monsters, but that got old after awhile. Even moreso because of random loot drops.

In Don't Starve PvP it would be more like: Gather the basic resources, make a base, die, repeat.

Or even better: Gather loads of resources, fight the dragonfly, die near the end because a player walked up and froze you, and watch as they kill the dragonfly with 2 blow darts.

There is so much resource collecting in the early stage of the game, I can't imagine there being any fun dying before day 60.

In Don't Starve PvE it would be more like: Gather the basic resources, make a base, die when you get bored, repeat. but of course, we're both still talking about worst case scenarios. Except in my scenario, it's guaranteed to happen every time. also, the psychology totally applies, just like people will voice what they hate about a thing much more often than what they like.

I don't die when I get bored. I start doing things like the tumbleweed piano. :D

The learning curve in Don't Starve is meant to be frustrating, but something you are welcome back to. "Get good noob lol" is the kind of welcome back you can expect on its PvP. Its not a worst case scenario because thats what happens in PvP, they kill people. The early stage in the game is the best time to kill players because no one has had time for traps or good forms of weapondry.

The psycology didn't apply when the fun part lasted for about a hour, while the grinding last two days. The long, randomized loot drop, boring, resource consuming, grinding. Followed by two shots in the back from someone I didnt see.

How the heck would they know you're using your force attack anyway? you can always missclick too

I believe now that if you hit a follower they aggro on you, idk havent play DS in awhile

Yes but if you are trying to attack a player, you might hit a pig who will then target you. Then you have two people trying to hit you.

All the reason why PvP shouldn't be a thing. Unless there is a targeting system that prevents you from hitting friendlies by accident.

I'm talking about in single player when you hit a pig or something, I don't think they get mad at you right away.

Ah. In Don't Starve if you hit a follower all follower pigs will start to attack the follower pig you attacked.

To add to this thread I've started a new thread for Permadeath with a poll. Right now that has to be the most talked about topic by far. Please take the time to vote and leave a comment. Thanks

I Think it should be an option but i don't like the idea too much,i think...it is not fair Wolfgang with full belly attacking Wendy...

That's definitely a concern. I can only imagine the destruction Woodie in Werebeaver mode will cause.

My preference here isn't actually in the poll. I think that there should be a seperate PVP mode, or at least options on map creation for having players/teams spawn in separate locations. However, there should also be a setting equivalent to the "friendly fire" option in shooters, to allow for the added challenge of having to be careful not to hit eachother, or not, depending on preference. Basically, I'd say you should be able to set the game for "X teams of Y players" at start, maybe a toggle between "Teams Spawn Together" or "Scatter Teams", and an option to choose whether players on the same team can hurt each-other or not.

That's really all I want. and I want it to be the default option, of course giving the option to go for a more casual/easy mode

Im sorry but this poll just confuses me :p . Maybe all this options should be on DST?... Maybe like in MC when theres no pvp for 10 minutes for people to gather resources but then its activated? Where would this option fall under?
