if Together will launch chat needed.

It's not a matter of cheating, it's a matter of playing with your friends and coordinating. Imagine the first days, you are 4 walking randomly gathering some stuff, but you all need to stop every 3 seconds to say ''Come this way!'' , ''No, I saw a pig this way, come!'' , ''No, I saw poop, beefalos are this way''. Sure, it could be interesting the first time, but on the long run, it will get boring quickly in my opinion.

Also, if I end up being in the caves while my friends are on the surface, I will feel just as lonely as if I play on single player, so I would prefer at the very least to be able to talk to them about anything (not necessarily game related) on voice chat. The same is true we are just split up on the surface. Again, not a matter of cheating, just a matter of making the multiplayer playthrough enjoyable.

Edit: I am not against any of the suggestions here, I was just pointing out that the more it is complicated and restrictive, the less it is going to be used, at least in the long run, since it is not a RPG. The communication system is a convenience, it's a tool, not a feature that should have an impact on the game. Again, that's my opinion and it is well within your rights to disagree! I will still love you as much! =)

Yeah, I understand. I think it could still work, it worked for Journey.

I just personally would like something different. I find it annoying when there´s conversations in chats between people I don´t even know. Also spamming is really annoying. Sure, you can probably turn the chat off, but then if you want to talk, you need it on and...and..it´s a whole thing...

Also, I like that loneliness, because then when you find your friends, it´s really exciting and you can tell them about all of your adventures when you were off by yourself.

I like the idea of also being able to loose people. Like after a hound attack, you could have gotten split up and you´ll have to find your friends, friends you don´t even know are still alive!

It´s OK, I love you too.

I didn't say there should be none, but rather that it should be simple, e.g. you write something in the chat, everyone sees what you wrote in a log that you can scroll up or down. There is no need (in my opinion) to implement a complex chat system with dialogue only above your character head that can only be seen if you are 2 inches away from your friends. That would be restrictive, whereas a chat system is meant to be used to communicate with the other players if you can't use other communication systems (like voice chat).

Well, i would prefer a box chat too with the words above the character head like the original game.

It could be like the LittleBIGPlanet chat; it appears above the character's head when on screen, but if they're not, it appears on the edge in the direction they're in. <:

Chat log would only be shown when you actually start typing something again.
