The bright side about it is that if you let them starve too death, the rabbits turn into stale morsels before turning into goop. Otherwise, anything you feed them is going to have the same food value as the rabbit itself. So you might as well have just killed the rabbit, ate it, and ate whatever you were going to feed it - you'd be ahead in terms of food value.
