The Grand DS Theory - Covers Everything (Spoilers!)

Recommended Posts

Them

Them is actually a highly advanced but dying alien race. Because they're dying, they need a new planet to sustain them. So after searching for a while, they find the planet Earth, still in the 1800s or whenever DS takes place, mostly unhurt by pollution. So, to help study the human life, they needed to abduct one human. This human was Maxwell, although Charlie was also abducted on accident.

Maxwell

Them treated Maxwell like a guest at the start, being as king to him as possible. However, they secretly planned to kill him and Charlie after their purposes were served. They used Maxwell's memories to create a biodome, the DS world. At this point the DS world was completely normal, no weird monsters, no Graveyards, no Grue, not even any harmless but weird things like Chester. Except for one thing. That is, since Maxwell was a magician, they thought that his magic was an actual part of the world, so they added some edited versions of their inventions into the world to look "magical". They also had tentacles, but they lived in the ocean and served to stop anything that tried to escape.

The version of Maxwell that greets the player at the start is a hologram of sorts inserted by Them. It isn't meant to be condescending or threatening at all. After all, Them wouldn't know what humans would consider a good attitude.

Charlie

So, Charlie was abducted on accident with Maxwell. But the already had a human to use for the experiment. So they used Charlie as a guinea pig for experimenting on the body and mind of a human. Unfortunatly this caused her to become heavily mutated and aggressive, so they had to imprison her.

Eventually, Maxwell accidentally found out about this. And realized that Them were probably planning to kill him too (He was right). So he came up with a plan.

Maxwell's Door

After studying Them and their technology in secret, he found out about a strange door of some kind, that could possibly get the test subject out of the biodome. Maxwell and the test subject would then work together to find a way out.

The Forces Of Them

Eventually, Them found out about Maxwell placing the Door into the biodome. Maxwell was imprisoned and psychologically tortured in Them's prison (The epilogue level). Them sent some of their warriors to hunt down the test subject, but they were low on power (Remember, they're a dying race) so they needed to ration them:

-Krampus, which is Them in some kind of strange disguise, only appears when the subject appears to be getting stronger.

-The hallucinations, which are basically like combat drones, only appear when the player is at his weakest mentally.

-There was another type of simpler combat drone that was given a "chess" motif (Found from the memories of Maxwell) and a steampunk look to match the age. These ones were only employed to guard certain areas.

Charlie was also employed as a measure against the player, but the mutation made her eyes very sensitive to light, so she can only come out in the night and can't enter any light. Finally, the hologram of Maxwell was added to Maxwell's Door

Now, this theory doesn't just cover the big ****. There's also the matters of the island itself too.

Gold

Gold isn't actually gold, rather, it's a type of  that looks like gold but is much more durable, even more so than regular stone. But it also has the properties of mind enhancement. This explains the science machine; It's not just allowing the player to create new items (Although there are some attachments to it like a stonecutter, etc.). But it's also making the player smart enough to know how to handcraft these items.

However, the Gold does, over a very long period of time, work on one other type of life form...

The Ruins Civilization

Due to the large amount of gold in the caves, the Ruins civilization was easily effected by the gold. They built many good thigns but never quite got past the medieval stage.

After a while the Ruins civilization discovered Them's clockwork chess pieces, and used them for themselves. Them decided that the Ruins civilization might become too strong, so they sent a large army of the other drones (The hallucinations) to wipe them out.

During the siege on the ruins civilization, they discovered the liquid metal of the drones (Nightmare Fuel). They ended up using this stuff for everything, since it also functioned as a fuel source. After a while, the nightmare fuel was discovered to be extremely poisonous when burned in a Nightmare Light, and they all died. The drones went haywire and now occupy the Ruins to this day.

At the capital of the Ruins civilization, they ended up using so much nightmare fuel that it caused a massive release of energy that caused all of the DS wildlife to mutate. This included:

(to be continued)

Isn't it weird how aliens are always depicted as either really smart OR stronger than a bear and even dumber?

Why can't we just have a NORMAL alien race, that developed similar to humans or something? Seriously. How about a movie where HUMANS explore the solar system and come across medieval aliens? I would watch that
