My World

Recommended Posts

Hey so I have just been told by my brother that the new Don't Starve update Reign of Giants will be launched soon. I'm not a good writer and am horrible at forums so forgive anything wrong I may type in.

So I've got a very meaningful question and the answer might mean whether or not I'll be playing the new update. I'd like to ask what will the possibilities be to update my world, my save file into the update. Will I need to use the teleportato? Because I'd really rather not abandon my current map as I really grew attached to all that I built and all wonders I've found in there.

Also I think it's time a nice world updating way or tool was invented by Klei as a means to receive all the awesome new content they bring. Having to abandon world after world, save file after save file to play the new thingies after all the work put into surviving the ever harder and harsher environment is quite the gamebreaking annoyance for me. :[

I think that's it. I tried to make it as clear as I could. Please me direct and sensitive in your answers and regarding my question, I'd like a developer or moderator's answer please as I want to be sure it's the right answer. It's something quite big for me.

Alright thank you peeples. Awesome day to all.

A direct quote from Bryce:  "You will have to start a new game to get the DLC content."

In order to gain access to the DLC content, you'll have to start up a new game. This is because the new content is created through the world gen - which happens when you start up a new game. Also there are new game behaviour and other stuff that has been added into the DLC that doesn't work on original Don't Starve game worlds.

Like what Simplex mentioned, you should still be able to continue your old save without DLC content even when you have Reign of Giants installed. But if you would like to play the DLC content, you'll need to start up a new save file.

Aww- Thank you for the responses guys. Although this saddens me. I strongly wish I could play the new update on my beloved world.

Oh btw I can't seem to find this new content to buy on Steam. Did I just not search right or is it only available through paypal?

Thanks again. Good day to all.

The Reign of Giants beta is coming to Steam; we just haven't announced and dates for it yet. At the moment, you can purchase the RoG beta through this Humble Widget. You should be able to use PayPal or Amazon Payments on it.

Oh I see. Well I've just purchased it through amazon and started playing a few days [on a new save T__T] and I've one last question.

I read somewhere that the giants aren't yet implemented into the game. My question is, once they are implemented, will my current save become obsolete or will it be updated automatically to contain the giants? Will I have to create yet another save file or will it adjust automatically? Or perhaps will the use of the Teleportato be necessary?

Thanks once again, and please give me a happy answer this time. T-T
Awesome day to you all

Because the new stuff is being created in world gen (basically when you start a new world), you'll have to start a new save once the game has been updated in order to get access to the new content.

If you're pretty far into your current world, you can still of course continue to play it; it just won't get the new content generated in it.
