New Player

Opula

Just wanted to say how much fun I'm having.   Finally got the chance to pick up the game and just died my first horrible death. On the plus side I did make it six days.

Welcome, Opula!

Glad to hear you're enjoying yourself; this is a game that keeps on giving.

You've barely scratched the surface of what's possible. I guarantee that many more delightful discoveries await you :-)

Welcome new players and Opula! First off 6 days is AMAZING for your first game. That wall you speak of is normal, and expect it to take you some time to get past it.

Ghosts don't hurt when you are wood-armored and have a Weapon like say, a spear...but you need to be able to craft regularly. Since you dug up a grave (and have a shovel,) this advice is more likely for other readers now, but it's good for you to remember when starting new games too:

My advice is to find first gold  and stone to work on a "Science machine" and fire pit (and that's all I'll say.) How and where is up to you (as well as where you place them) for now. if you are still stuck after 3 days of game play, let us know and we'll give you (and others who ask nicely here :-) ) some more hints.

I thought ghosts hit right through your armor? Besides you can just run away, not worth killing them since they don't drop anything.

Technically, anything "gets through" armor, the percentage that gets through being linked to the percentage resisted from the armoring (grass, wood, marble, Pig Helmet, whether you stack armors, etc.) you are wearing.

But no, ghosts do not bypass armor (nor do you need "Shadow Weapons and Armor" to attack "Shadows" themselves, but that's a way off for new players.)

Ghosts also track you and if you're close by at night, will float right up to you eventually and make you have to keep running; try that if "around a campfire!"

Once you have even the most basic spear and armor, they only do three hits to you, which is not a lot of damage when (and here is the key) armored, and are guaranteed to disappear this way (instead of you luckily have somewhere else to go far away, went back to their last location after a full game day has past, and they don't bug out and do disappear when you visit their last floated to location again.)

Not when I run off, and he manages through sheer luck to find me again almost five minutes later just as the light dies while I'm roasting berries. :|

Some enemies TRACK you when you anger them. Ghosts are one which must be killed or ran away from long enough (if not bugged) to disappear.

Treeguards are another who don't simply go away. (They are a freakin' boss monster so of course not!)  If they have another enemy to attack by them being attacked, when done (if still alive,) are neutral to you until you chop trees down in their presence. They also can be pacified if you know how to appease a TREE guard. Maybe doing something LIFE GIVING involving TREES?

Can anyone tell me why I'm not getting any more experience no matter how long I survive after I've unlocked Woody? Am I missing something?

You are at the character and experience cap. There's nothing more to get. The character screen if there (at the time of this posting) is just a permannet placeholder. When downlad conent comes out if bought, then dying/escaping XP will resume. Then cap again.

Tallbirds also will chase you for a LONG time if you steal their egg, so either have an ambush set up or be ready to run a marathon.
