Survival Log - The 5,000 day challenge.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, my name is Zephymair. I have been playing Don't Starve for quite some time, so I thought it about time to start a log of a challenge I am currently working on.

The current challenge is the 5,000 day challenge and here is my story!

Day 1-10

Day 1

Gathered twigs, grass, flint, and rocks.

Built my first Axe.

Gathered wood and pinecones.

Met with a lovely chap named Skelly; he was surprisingly shy.

Skelly gave me his Pickaxe; what a generous fellow.

Shooed away birds to gather their seeds.

Built a nice campfire.

Day 2

Found some lovely carrots and berries.

Explored the lovely scenery.

Played with three different herds of beefalo.

After scaring the Beefalo, I decided to gather their manure; boy does it stink!

Met with a lively fellow, Otto von Chesterfield, Esquire.

Found some nasty looking spiders.

Built a spear.

Killed the nasty looking spiders.

Harvested their corpse for spider glands and lovely silk.

Found some horrible looking meat.

Destroyed the spider nest so I wouldn't have to look at any more nasty spiders.

We decided to frolic in the grass.

Built my first backpack!

Built a nice and warm campfire.

Had a nice dinner with the carrots and berries I found earlier.

Shaved the beefalo while they were sleeping.

Day 3

Explored the island more.

Found a horribly treated forest, it was as if it was weeping.

Met with a scary chap named Skelly Jones; he was surprisingly bashful.

Skelly Jones gave me a Beefalo Hat, a Spear, and some Hound Teeth; I wonder if he can breathe with his head in the dirt.

Found a large mountain area with a lot of large boulders.

Mined for some gold, accidently breaking Skelly's Pickaxe.

Met with a friendly chap named Bones; he was surprisingly shy like Skelly.

Bones gave me his Shovel; I think he was flirting with me.

Met a nice pig fellow in trouble, saved him from the nasty spiders!

Found a Walrus camp; wonder if they are nice.

Found a large infestation of spiders, near the mountains; I will have to clear those out one day!

Scared the beefalo again as I was exploring back past them.

Built a campfire, near some beehives; I will definitely need to capture these bees.

Finished off my delectable carrots and berries.

Day 4

Explored some more.

Found some weird holes in the ground; your crazy if you think I'm going into that!

Found another Walrus camp; wonder if they are friendly.

Gathered some more carrots and berries for dinner.

Found another mountain range with large boulders; these were surprisingly spider free.

Found a Tallbird nest; there was no egg in it.

Found a third Walrus camp; they better be friendly!

Found some very angry looking bees; they look very poisonous.

It started raining; I am soaked!

Found a wooden circle thingamajig on the ground.

There was a scary rhino guy which destroyed everything in its path!

Picked some lovely flowers and made a garland out of them.

Built another campfire.

Had a nice dinner with the carrots and berries I found earlier.

Day 5

Explored the scenery more.

Had another encounter with the scary Rhino and the angry bees.

Today is a very sad day, Otto von Chesterfield has died.

The angry bees killed the scary Rhino.

Destroyed one of the angry bee nests.

Finished off my carrots and berries I had gathered.

Found the angry bees were storing honey in their nest.

Built a campfire.

Day 6

Gathered marble that the scary rhino destroyed.

Today is a joyous day, Otto von Chesterfield has returned!

Ran away from the angry bees.

Prototyped some new experimental machinery.

Built another campfire.

Day 7

Captured some honey bees.

Prototyped a Bee Box.

Made my first Log Suit!

Gathered more twigs, grass, and wood as I was running low after prototyping experiments.

Built another campfire.

Ate what little honey I had left over, from the angry bees.

Day 8

Explored the island more.

Followed a dirt road. It led me to another mountain range!

Gathered carrots for dinner.

Found some scary looking trees, I will leave them alone for now!

Met with the locals and their king; was not impressed with his Pig-latin.

Met up with some local guardians, they were very friendly.

Traveled through a murky swampland.

Activated a touchstone, wonder what it does?

Watched the locals fight with some tentacle monsters! The nasty tentacle monster never had a chance.

It started raining again, ugh I just got dry!

Built a campfire.

Had a nice fish and carrot dinner.

Day 9

Explored the swamplands.

Gathered some reads for papyrus.

Stole a Tallbird egg.

Ran from the Tallbird mother.

Found a graveyard, it was scary!

Still haven't found a place to call home yet.

Built another campfire.

Finished the fish I had gotten from the locals.

Ate some carrots since I was still hungry.

Day 10

Explored the island more.

Gathered supplies as Chester and I were running low.

Hounds attacked us as night was falling.

Camped near a hole in the ground.

Chester is trying to convenience me to go into it.

Ate more carrots for dinner, wish I had more than carrots to eat now!

I will continue to update this, every 10 days until day 100, at which point it will be updated every 25 days. Please leave comments, concerns or the like.

Don't wanna be an arsehole, but surviving 5000 days is not hard, it is just boring, after 100 days you will eventually get bored.

Also, without any challange in your gameplay, you might as well go stand in rain for 24 hours holding your umbrella and claim that you are the rainproof.

Exactly, that is the point of setting a ridiculously high number of days to survive. I also haven't been to the caves yet, so this will be the first time I've went down there (It never really interested me before.)

5,000 days is A LOT. If you can do this, you'll go down in history.

Also, I love the way you wrote in the log!

Thanks, I decided to write it from the characters perspective.

Day 11-20

Day 11

Throughout the night Otto von Chesterfield continued to nag me about jumping into the hole.

I finally caved in and agreed that I would jump into the hole.

Jumped into the hole in the ground.

It looks as if it spit me up near Bones. I have pleasantry with Bones then head out.

After leaving Bones, I decided to explore the mountain range.

I discovered another one of those funny holes in the ground; before Otto von Chesterfield got the chance to nag me about it; I jumped in.

I ended up not too far from where I left.

After exploring some more I found a nice little place to call my own. Now it's time to start decorating it!

Built a permanent campsite.

Day 12

Chopped down some trees and a tree guardian spawned.

After putting up a good fight, the tree guardian was slain.

Dug up the twigs, grass, and berry bushes to replant them elsewhere.

Filled in some rabbit holes, forcing them to seek a new place to live.

Captured all the bees in a single bee hive relocating them into a bee box.

Sat near the fire pit.

Day 13

Headed out to mine some gold.

Ran into the nasty spiders again, decided to rid the world of them.

Killed many spiders today, got lots of spider glands and silk.

Built a campfire.

Day 14

Killed more spiders, those bloody things are never ending!

Found a tier 3 spider den, decided it was time to wipe it out before it turned into something even more nasty.

Picked up the Spider Den egg, now to burn or not to burn it.

Gathered more carrots and berries for dinner.

Built a campfire on the way back to my home.

Day 15

Decided to capture more honey bees on my way back home.

Destroyed another two hivese to make more bee boxes.

Built 4 farms, planted seeds.

Sat near the fire pit, thinking about tomorrow.

Day 16

Built a birdcage.

Captured a bird, imprisoned it in the bird cage. It’s a lovely cardinal.

Organized my chest, Otto von Chesterfield, backpack, and my personal storage.

Left what I didn't need to take with me on my journey to the locals village.

Built a campfire along the way.

Gathered until it was time to head out again in the morning.

Day 17

Set out today from camp.

Stumbled upon a Lure plant.

Decided to kill the Lure plant.

Stopped by Skelly's place to pick up a few things.

He just doesn't know how to let go, kept nagging me that I didn't visit enough.

After restocking up on supplies at Skelly's headed out to mine some more gold.

After mining gold, stopped by the local guardians pub and said hello to them.

Finally, made it to the locals village.

Election time came and their vote failed. Time to relocate!

The locals weren't too happy about being relocated.

Hounds attacked, locals help defend me.

Spiders decided they would help relocate the locals by killing them.

Helped the locals by killing the spiders.

Build a camp fire for locals.

Day 18

Finished relocating the locals.

Headed back home.

Stopped by Skelly's and he won't shut up about this new girl he met.

I wonder why I even bother stopping by anymore.

It started raining, now I am soaked.

Gathered more berries for dinner.

Sat and listened to Skelly ramble all night about this new girl.

Day 19

Left Skelly's place.

Chopped a few trees for fire wood on my way home.

Decided to only use golden tools as they are a girl's best friend.

After dropping off supplied at home, traveled to the Beefalo to see the new Baby Beefalo.

Gathered some fresh manure from the Beefalo.

Went on a hunt to kill a Koalefant.

Killed the Koalefant right as night was falling.

Day 20

Built a wall around a Walrus camp.

Mined some rocks.

Built a torch and continued working through the night.

I sectioned off one of the closer Walrus camps, to help keep me safe. Going to build a local village near it. Map hasn't changed much, will post pictures after winter.

Going to pull over my quote from the Willow 1K thread since it's even more relevant here:

My only recommendation after you establish your base would be to go to sleep at the crack of Dusk every single time without hesitation, no doubt about it, no questions asked, really really. Spend the last 30 seconds of daylight preparing for it if you have to. Your biggest obstacle is 8 minute real-time days; cutting those days down as small as you can will benefit you immensely in the long run because it will minimize boredom. Boredom inflicting stupidity upon you will by far be your most likely cause of death.

Multiplying the 1,000 Day challenge seems almost hollow. You'll be doing the exact same thing from Day 50 all the way up to Day 5,000, more or less. The real... fun, begins once your base is stable.

5,000 days -- with each Don't Starve day lasting 8 real-time minutes -- comes out to 666 hours and 40 minutes if you never sleep in-game (fun fact: the calculator says 666.666666...). I hope you're not playing Wickerbottom.

If you want to speed things along, you might want to consider playing a Long Dusk or Only Dusk world; in a world like that, it becomes a race to gather materials for 5,000 beds rather than a staring contest between you and complacency. If I ever do one of these, I can assure you my world will be set to Long Dusk.

Yes I am playing Wickerbottom, that is half the challenge.

Day 21-30

Day 21

Watched MacTusk and Co, get killed by angry bees.

Managed to get attacked by angry bees, almost dying.

Tried to steal a Tallbird egg, only to get attacked by Tallbird and no egg.

MacTusk dropped his tusk, so I have a walking Cane!

Went back home to lick my wounds.

Day 22

Prototyped Winter's Hat.

MacTusk attacked Otto von Chesterfield.

Helped Otto von Chesterfield kill MacTusk.

Pengulls attacked MacTusk's frost hounds.

KidTusk ran away.

Built two local houses near MacTusk.

Picked up the dropped components from the company.

Sat near fire pit to keep warm.

Day 23

Chopped more fire wood, you never can have enough fire wood.

Stole two Tallbird eggs.

Watched MacTusk and Tallbird fight as I ran away.

Sat near fire pit to keep warm.

Day 24

Watched two locals kill a Tallbird, almost died to spiders. I really hate spiders.

Looking for a way to create medicine to heal my wounds.

Built a camp fire for the night.

Day 25

Hounds attacked.

Barely escaped the hounds to find myself in the middle of MacTusk versus Pengulls.

MacTusk hounds perished, while MacTusk himself ran away.

Build a camp fire near the Pengulls for safety.

Day 26

Searched for MacTusk to kill, was unable to locate him.

Mines more rocks for better fortification. I think I am running out of boulders to mine though.

Started to freeze to death, need more fire wood.

Built a camp fire, to keep nice and warm.

Decided to head home as there is plenty of wood at home.

Day 27

Set off to gather more wood, hoping no guardians try to kill me.

Gathered some wood, some grass and twigs.

Caught some rabbits.

Got cold really fast, so had to stop and build a camp fire.

Day 28

Gathered more fire wood.

Along my journey I met up with a talkative fellow named William D. Skeleton.

He asked me to call him Willie.

He gave me some gun powder and talked on and on about how the caves were so fun.

He talked me into digging down into the ground and entering the caves.

Day 29

Spent the day in the caves. They look nice.

I keep seeing things, I swear it's all in my head.

I encouraged one of the rock people to follow me to the surface.

I spoke with the Bunnymen, they agreed to meet me on the surface!

Today was a good day.

Day 30

Looked in my traps to see if I caught any rabbits.

Reset my traps for more rabbits.

Prototyped a Hat machine.

Stayed at my home as night set in.

Built a new chest, dropped off anything I wouldn't need.

Sat by the fire pit to keep warm.

Haha, I love the way this is being written.

Thanks!

Day 31-40

Day 31

Gathered some supplies and headed back to the caves.

Got to the caves right as night was falling.

Day 32

Gathered light bulbs.

Started the Bunnymen relocation project.

Gathered lots of carrots.

Day 33

Left the caves headed home.

Stopped to get warm and put on my Winter's hat.

Should reach home by night fall.

Hounds attacked almost killing me.

Licking my wounds next to my fire pit.

Day 34

Went to visit MacTusk only to find out his frost hounds had multiplied.

I perished a terrible death, luckily I was smart enough to activate one of those touchstones.

Day 35

Today, I spent time recouping my losses and rushing home trying not to freeze to death; I barely made it!

I rushed up to Otto von Chesterfield to only come to find him dying as I get there.

I mourn the loss of Otto von Chesterfield.

I quickly gather as much as I can and run away from the hounds.

Day 36

Ate up my supply of carrots I had for building Bunnyman houses.

Otto von Chesterfield has returned.

Retrieved all the supplies which had fallen out of Mr. Chesterfield.

Day 37

Ran around did nothing, deciding what do to next.

Stole two Tallbird eggs.

Built a Bunnyman house.

Built another chest to house all my collectables.

Wondering what Bones is doing.

Plans to go see Skelly Jones tomorrow, bringing him lunch.

Day 38

Visited Skelly Jones.

Built poor ole Skelly Jones a fire pit to call his own.

Planted him a berry bush and a farm.

I hope he tends to them regularly, instead of keeping his head in the dirt.

Built another farm for myself.

Sitting near camp fire next to my farms, waiting for them to grow.

Day 39

Built another Bunnyman house.

Hounds attack, out smarted them by making them attack the spiders.

Gathered more manure.

Surprised Skelly Jones with more berry bushes.

Slept at Skelly Jones.

Yeah I got the idea from your post, but I've also seen many other people post logs of their games as well.

Its a cool idea, obviously I wasn't the first, but how will you log to day 5000? Like dang, I haven't logged my 2 past worlds since it can be an annoyance. Good luck!
