Axiluvia
Now, I'm not saying they should make it (although I would be HIGHLY interested in it, heh), and I feel Don't Starve is fine without the fairly large list of... well, fairly large additions I'm going to suggest, which is why this topic is about "If they made a sequel, what would you want to see in it?". This is mainly a list of 'bigger, better, more complicated' details as well. Animals and Plants:I think these would help the world feel more full and inhabited, but not by any other people. In fact, often seeing a pristine enviroment often drives home (at least to me) that I'm the only one there, and there probably hasn't been anyone here in a LONG time...More Animal Varants depending on Biome: Yes, there's birds, fish, frogs, butterflies, beefalos and rabbits, but hey tend to show up everywhere, versus what should be more biome related. Forest biomes could have their own herd animals, and smaller ones like squirrels, foxes (for fur), and other things. Rocks would have more reptiles and insects (like snakes and scorptions, which could be useful in getting venoms for weapons), waterfowl, etc. This could also change depending on season, since several animals would migrate or change behaviors then. This goes for plants as well. There could be berry types that you can only pick in spring, or close to winter, and having things like fruit trees would be interesting (but should also be a VERY long term investment if you don't find them wild, I know apple and cherry trees take at LEAST 3-5 years to produce a decent amount of fruit), but should also come with it's own hazards. More Dangerous plants: I'm not talking about ones that actively kill you, but ones that would make you sick or hallucinate. Like Nightmares, but different. They could give the player a sanity or health loss aura on themselves, for a slow drain. Or even something like a teleportation fruit, it makes them pass out, and wake up somewhere else on the map, for a one way trip. Since they do pass out, though, they would still get attacked by monsters nearby so they wouldn't be able to use it as an easy out. More Theft of items: If you've ever been camping, you know how bad it can be to not lock up your food, or anything else that might attract animals. Bugs, Birds, even chipmunks and squirrels can be little thieves, stealing things that are lying around. I'd say to use this for people that drop stuff with the intention to get it later, or leave things in their crockpot or drying. More things during nocturnal cycles: Certain animals and plants would only show up during the night, making doing things during the night more worthwhile for those that want them, but also be more dangerous, since you are going out at night, and there's more dangerous things as well. For example, you could catch owls in a bird trap, but only if you put a morsel in the trap as bait at night (if you did it during the day, you'd catch a different bird of prey).Items:I think these changes would make for more varied playstyles, and also highly increase replayability, since there would be so many different things to try differently each time.'Housing': You can build bases now, but no doors, and snow and rain still gets through the top. I'm not saying to make it 3-d, but being able to place roofing would make it more comfortable to stand around, certainly, and make more sense. There would be ups and downs to doing this; more sanity in a 'home', and less worry about heat and cooling, but the 'house' would decay on it's own without you repairing it, and would also have other problems (house mice, weather effects, etc) that wouldn't bother just walls or flooring. Speaking of flooring... Making Flooring more useful: It looks nice, but what else does it do? I'm thinking there would be bonuses for certain items being placed on top of certain floor tiles. A Bed (or bedroll) would restore more health if used on carpet (or a softer floor) then a wood tile, Wood would be more durable then carpet (if the flooring gets damaged over time, you could have issues, like mold monsters, or whatnot creeping by), and stone or marble floors would keep any food items in boxes in them even cooler (being a cooler room in general) but also have you lose heat faster while in the room in winter. More variants on similar items: a fishing pole is not the only way to catch fish. Maybe hainv more variety on tools would allow you to catch more creatures, or get more items? A fishing spear might be able to get you bigger fish, but you might not get anything as well. A fishing cage could get you things like lobster and crabs as well, but you would have to whack them a couple times, because they come out angry.System:These are mostly changes to make the world and how it reacts more varied. It would also make custominzing a world more interesting over just making it easier or harder on the player (or easier/harder to find things). I recall something on the roadmap similar to this, so sorry if I'm rehashing stuff that's already been said.Weather effects depending on biomes: Dust storms, hail, fog, etc. Each with it's own hazards, making exploring more desolate areas tougher without the correct gear. Water systems: Many cultures have been able to survive just by being near large bodies of water with plenty of food for them. Rivers, Estuaries, etc. Of course, then you'd also have to watch out for floods, or the river deciding to shift where it's going to be... Biomes growing larger or shrinking depending on what you do: This should be a slow, but noticable change; planting forest trees would expand the area, grass would give way to plains in certain areas, while in wetter regions the grass would be more prevalent, a world with heavy rain would have swamps slowly spread, but a world with no or little rain would be mostly plains and rocks, etc. Mountain systems: Sometimes, what you want in a game is easy enough to get to, just a long walk. Now imagine a mountain range in the way. Trying to find a way over it would be a pain, so you could try taking the cave system under it... if you feel up to it. Anyways, that's all I can think of for now, people can add their suggestions. Silentdarkness1
Maximum modding support. Leave everything open, really. There's still a few things missing modder-wise from Don't Starve. Maz
I barely know everything in Don't Starve now, imagine with all this 0_0 Sorry man, it is a bit too much to be added. DeadpanQuinkan
I feel if Don't Starve were to have a sequel it would be something completely different. Like some kind of twisted god game. You would get to play with each of the previous survivors who are now puppet masters. TeoSS69
I just wish they'll balance their items and not dumb the game down. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/30598-dont-starve-2-sugesstions/#findComment-394842 Share on other sites
