Terrorbeak/Nightmarebeaks any tips?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I've figured out the depths worms well enough to survive caves now - mostly just run away and leave them, eventually they get into fights with Lobsters or Bunnies.

Now for the ruins and those Terrorbeaks (Nightmarebeaks). I've been trying to kite them, but I can't seem to do it. They miss me, I hit, but they hit me back, etc. Also, they're too fast to get out of range and I can't seem to get my Lobsters allies to aggro on them - am I running in circles too fast?

I'm playing Wendy with a Tentacle Spike right now. Abigail won't fight them either - some kind of ban on Ghost vs. Ghost fights in the netherworld I guess. ;)

I guess this is progress?

In this case, treat Wendy like she were a non-ghost allied weaker character *cough cough* Wes *cough cough*

Get allies and tank the Terrorbeaks with tank-y armor and weapons. If they can, feel free to equip the allies with Armoring helmets.

if you can, try and thin the herd to one or two before fighting. Make sure you have plenty of healing (I hope you have Honey Poultices) due to your reduced combat.

Actually, a ham bat might work better in this specific case due to non-durability loss per hit compared to losing integrity per hit with other weapons (and you may need a few.) However, nothing wrong with using a Dark Sword/Thulecite Club if you have it. If you have a Shelmet, now;s the time toi consider using it for protection.

If you just need to hide when the Ruins hits its Zenith, a Bush Hat works fine. Else, run like a coward and wait in that situation.

Thanks. I use healing salve mostly, because it's so cheap to make - reeds are a bit of a hike to fetch in this world - but maybe I'll switch over.

I may switch to a Dark Sword, as I have living logs and nightmare fuel coming out my ears now.  As for armor, I killed the snurtle hive early on because I wanted fragments to make a potted plant, which I did, then it burned up - ugh. Now I think that was the only snurtle mound in this whole cave. So it's log armor for me, though I could make marble suit too and just put it on for tanking this one type of battle. Lobsters have been awesome in clearing out the clockwork guards. I just get them near enough and come back for the drops.

Right now, I go up to the cave level when the nightmares start, but I've heard about bush hats for this.

Spam F to stunlock them. Unlike Crawling Horrors, they can still take damage while teleporting, so as you hit them, the animation resets and they can't teleport away. This is how I kill them.

Source: I go insane a lot because it's a good, easy way of farming Nightmare Fuel.

..what.

I have never heard this before, this is incredible. Terrorbeaks are such a pain in the ass when there are more than one or they have a Crawling Horror backing them up, but if I can get this to work it'll change everything.

This is a way to deal with one at a time. If there are more than one, then they can be a pain in the arse. If you have a walking cane, I find it very easy to lure one away from the rest of them, kill it in less time it takes a hound to finish barking, and then continue to the next one. I'd recommend a ham bat.

This..this is valuable information.

You can kite them, you just have to be quick and watch what they do.  Let one get close so it attacks, and then if it starts it's hissing animation (screaming, roaring, chirping, whatever) you run in and tag it.  If it doesn't, sometimes you can tag it and sometimes you can't.  If you've got more than one after you, run.

Also, while no allies will fight a nightmare for you, they can be killed with tooth traps.

Am I the only one who runs around until the Nightmare Cycle ends and they turn into free nightmare fuel?

I've started doing this, sort of.  Really, I was just doing such a bad job of kiting them, that the cycle ends and they die. The first couple times it happened, I thought I finally got enough hits in.  Now I realize it's just the cycle ending.

I'm terrible at getting hits in when kiting. I'm always "OK F! No wait! Run!"

@hotflungwok cool I'm going to try to set up a trap zone somewhere. I have Rock Lobsters all over everywhere now, but I can make a corridor at least.

Tried tanking them with a marble suit and a dark sword.  No good. Sure I got one of them down, but then another one shows up and brings a crawling horror with him. During the nightmare cycle, it's the same issue as with the worms. Even if you do kinda sorta get kiting to work, the battles just take too long and then you have multiples and it's time to run.

Running around in the "wilds" biome (minimal spawn points) seems to work best. Rock Lobsters have killed most of the Slurpers who used to live there so it's mostly open ground.  OR just going up to the caves and wait for the cycle to end works, but it's tricky getting enough of a gap in their attacks to make a grab for the rope.

Problem is, I'm trying to collect colored gems and they seem to be tuned to the cycle a bit. Got my first yellow gem though. Really wanted an orange one first, but the colors are so muted I couldn't tell and mined it anyway.
