Saying Goodbye to your world...

Recommended Posts

Isn't it very depressing when you have to leave your old world for good (some worlds are too awful to call home)? Isn't it hard to leave all your hard work and say goodbye to everything? To me, leaving a world is like going back in time, but with your materials still in hand, and how you have to start all over making a base. I kept a save since Hungry for your Hunger, and remembering my first world makes me teary. All the hardships like dying in the ruins and trying to get your stuff back, witnessing many deaths of smallbirds, and being ambushed by the Deerclops. Then, there are the great accomplishments, like establishing a fancy pig town, acquiring the Krampus Sack, and surviving up to the 800 days before leaving. What I just want to know is, aside from endangered resources, what motivates us to leave our precious worlds?

I rarely say goodbye to my worlds.  I keep going until I get bored of the game or until my head rolls.  I've never had a problem with dwindling resources, and on the one occasion that I did want to leave a world, I put my gunpowder to use and had a nice fireworks display.  Blowing up all my progress in the process.  :p

Sounds like a wonderful celebration! Next time, you should bring some pig/bunnyman audience to watch, or to volunteer in the fire! >:-)

Sounds like your farewell party...

went out with a bang!

(YEAOOOWWWWWWWAHH!)

With the world not resetting day count and having the risk (recently reconfirmed) of entering a new world and having 10 hounds attack you, I no longer see it as beneficial to leave the world. I'll just either die or delete the world and start a new one. However, if I were to decide to leave (where I learned to survive nomadicly for world-hopping,) I'd make a base, wait out the first winter, demolish the stuff and leave just after the end of the first winter (after pre-building a bunch of structures of course.)

But (if I don't have a "bad world setup generation,") there's no reason to leave anymore, even with non-renewable resources not being incentive enough. Boredom will be my greatest enemy after 300+ days. I'll just save one to two slots for my "best of" games and/or back up others in the save game archives if I ever choose to be nostalgic.

[but if I die, the games get deleted too.. I play fairly, (even if the games does not sometimes.)]

I remember when there was this update that introduced caves, where (most) of your maps from previous updates couldn't be loaded anymore due to some new map-coding thing.

I had a world where I survived for 150 days, had a massive camp, were on a quest to kill every single spider in the game, had a perfect base location (near 2 big beefalo heards + right next to a wormhole), and had a "captured" koalefant. (walls around him, kept him as a pet)

Having to delete that world was the most terrible thing ever that happened to me in Don't Starve :l

I'm on day 630 with Wx and I don't want to leave because I have a nice compact base squarely in the middle of the world with multiple caves nearby. But it is getting kind of boring cause I feel like I don't have to work for anything anymore. Essentially progress is maxed out so I find myself standing by the fire a lot and eating taffy and bacon & eggs. But I don't want to delete the save cause I've made it so far. I think I'm gonna go down in my one cave and blow up the 5 worms waiting for me. It's gonna be tricky but I don't know what else to do at this point

Late into the dusk on a cold winter day, 134. I was inside my Bunnyman and Spider farm with a Rockthulu that I happened to befriend before I came home. I used Rockthulu to tank the spiders to deplete the three tier 3 and a tier 2 dens. I whacked the tier 3 dens and then went about cleaning up the excursion. This meant getting rid of Rockthulu so he wouldn't eat the gems I have laying on the ground in my base.

I got into a good attack rhythm against him. I was cutting away at him with my Dark Sword and kitting his attacks. When he would switch to defensive position, I would wait patiently until he stood back up. All was going just fine until he got ONE hit on me.

I didn't realize that he was going to be able to one-shot me when I didn't have armor on. I figured he take me really low, I'd use the spider glands I have to heal, then keep on kitting. But yeah, because I got hit once by Rockthulu I lost my last world.

I loved that world too, I was making it into something awesome. It always sucks to die.

Oh well, lesson learned. On to the next world.

That's exactly how I feel! When your world has been TOO successful, it gets that empty feeling...
