koalefant question

Recommended Posts

So im getting more into farming these wonderful sources of food and download the more koalefants mod. Now my questions are: 1. How does one herd and capture a koalefant? 2. Where do you find the koalefant that drops the trunk for winter vest?

Id like to get a koalefant herd set my base so i can get the.renewable items the new ones in this mod drops. If i cant then a simple "its to difficult just set a parimeter around them" will be a good answer :). Thanks for the help

One does not simply harness Articfoxes species.

Be careful there know for the sharp teeth and damage output (200 damage), don't hunt them at night they grow wings and get double damage.

Also watch out for fur in the food you make with there meat.

This is all true. Also they can turn into a tree so it's best to set all the forests on fire.

The best way is to aggro one with the boomerang. once aggroed kill it with a spear. It is easiest to hunt them in savannas due to no trees obscuring their tracks. You get the winter trunk from the winter koalefants :p

Actual answers:

1. It runs from you until you attack it, so have a pen with three of the walls already built, chase it into it, and build the remaining wall around it.

2. The winter koalefant drops the trunk, and as you might guess, is found exactly like a normal koalefant, but only appears during the winter.

So if i keep one.aggroed i can lead him to a pen aka trap i assume? As for the.rest of the posts is the.damage you mean for the mod or regular koalefants? Cause the normal ones i just use a tentical spike and log suit.with foot.ball helmet, have no trouble killin em. Sorry for.all the periods my space bar is next to the period

Yes, they are a attack by ranged then switch to melee attack combat. They spawn around a "once a season if you had four seasons" timeline.

You may pen them, but as noted, that's often only done when you are on low food and/or manure resources (occasionally dropping them, but with the Beefalo Manure spawn rate changed, I can't say yet if it's more or less or about the same rate now.).

The Koalaphant  spawns pretty much regularly, and the hardest thing is following the tracks on certain biome turf (as it's difficult to see their tracks sometimes, especially in winter.)

The Koalaphant when it is in wintertime is how you get the WINTER trunk and make the puffy vest (the best cold-weather vest in the game.) Otherwise the trunk makes a breezy vest (one tier lower.) if you have enough vests, you also can cook and eat the trunk.

But with 8 meat per animal, it's not usually needed.

If you'd like to read up on them and don't care about spoilers, their Wiki entry is here

According to the wiki it's actually two tiers lower, only having 60 insulation (equal to the Dapper Vest and Rabbit Earmuffs) against the Puffy Vest's 240. That actually really bothers me, it seems like it should be 120 seeing as there's no 120 insulation chest item, and the only reason to make a Puffy Vest is to help with the first Winter.

It should also be said that while with the large amount of meat the Koalefant dropped a Koalefant Trunk Steak is a somewhat redundant food item, it is still absolutely amazing. It fills the same amount of Hunger and restores the same amount of Health as a Dragonpie. Since by the second Winter I've got one Puffy Vest that I can keep repaired with Sewing Kits, thus having no other use for any types of trunks, getting to cook that trunk and reap its effects is something I look forward too almost as much as filling up my drying racks.

Good call. A few things though.

  • Once you spawn a Koalaphant, that type won't seasonally change. Whatever it is when found, it will stay. New ones however, will be whatever they are based on the season. This means you must hunt and find a Winter Koalaphant in winter if you were going for the puffy vest for example.
  • If they only have one Koalaphant dropping resources, try making sure you pen only one per pen. If they still don't drop beyond one, keep each one a screen away. If this still fails, only keep one penned at a time (as the updates may  now only allow one "resource dropping animal of this type" per area. of course, if it's saved just for meat/trunks, then keep as many as you want penned wherever you want. .
  • If you are worried about food and can't find your 8 meat  (or Beefalos for that matter) food bank in winter, make sure you have a birdcage and a crock pot (you also can make drying racks.) Feed any cooked monster meat (or dried monster jerky) to a bird, and it will make eggs. Not only can this be used in the crock pot for great recipes (my fav is Bacon and eggs,) you can feed eggs to the pig king for gold if found as well as renewing rotting/stale meat/eggs for fresh eggs. This also is great for when you haven't yet found a gear for an ice box. The (optional) drying racks not only keep the meat longer, Jerky by non-monster meat can help raise sanity and lasts a very long time.

It'd be awesome if someone came to solidify these tips and build on their foundations.

Whoa, what's that?

HONK HONK! Here comes 23rd driving on the sidewalk in a cement mixer! The pedestrians can't get out of the way fast enough but it's okay, their deaths won't be in vain. They died for HELPFUL FACTS!

  • Alright "i already starved", it's time to lay down some sick tips! Yeah boy! Tip #1, Jerky is awesome and definitely worth making if you have an excess of grass and charcoal. The exact staying time of small jerky, monster jerky and jerky (yes, this is mostly going to be a list of numbers) is 40 days. For comparison's sake, cooked meat and cooked morsels only last 10 days whereas cooked monster meat will last 15 days.
  • There are four Crockpot foods you can make with eggs (you should absolutely make a bird cage, it is so incredibly worth it) but only three of them require eggs. All the recipes I'm about to list restore 5 sanity when consumed.
  • The first is the previously mentioned Bacon and Eggs. This is the favorite Crockpot food of a lot of people, and here's why. It restores 75 hunger and 20 health which is fairly average for most Crockpot foods worth making, but it's real advantage is that it lasts 40 days while being far better than any kind of jerky (sanity recovery notwithstanding). The most efficient recipe is by cooking three monster meat and acquiring one morsel. You can feed two cooked monster meats to a caged bird for two eggs, and throw the whole shebang into a Crockpot for one delicious breakfast.
  • The second is Waffles, which requires a surprisingly specific recipe. Waffles fill 37.5 hunger but their main strength is that they restore 80 health, making them the best health recovering food in the game. It's unlikely you'll be making them often though, because their recipe is Butter, an Egg, Berries and a Twig. The only way to get Butter is to kill a Butterfly, and even then the drop rate is only 2%.
  • The third are the Pierogies, delicious Polish cuisine that they are. Like Waffles they fill 37.5 hunger but their main strength is that they restore 40 health. Obviously they're not as good as Waffles, but they are by far easier to make, the recipe being one egg, one vegetable (carrot, corn, eggplant, pumpkin, any mushroom) one meat and any filler that isn't a twig (like another egg.)

Whew, that was a lot of typing.

Nicely done.

Also, when using filler, mushrooms work well, as long as you don't have any (no) vegetable restrictions in the recipies. Feel free to use red mushrooms; even better if you find those mushroom rings.

(As of the last update I've noticed a very slow or no update to these; let us know if they don't renew any more.)

Thanks for the tips peeps. I been playing for awhile but some of that i didnt know. Been makin alot of jerky lately since i found out the benefits it gives. Also this maybe real noob sounding considering ive at least played 3 months but wth is that big huge deer thing with one eye? I was out explorin on the last days of winter when this thing just took down 50 trees, 3 pig houses, and almost killing me before he ran off. I mean he was freaking huge

It is your imminent doom Deerclops. It is a winter boss monster that is spawned with a roaring audio warning. It destroys structures like a hammer and has about 2000 health. It does 75 damage to you per hit, and double that to third parties.

One of the big things it also does is it has an insanity aura of a "boss level" draining, or about 400 sanity loss a (real time) minute. For this, ranged weapons and/or friendly allies to fight it are highly recommended, or freeze it with the ice staff first (four blasts.) When using ranged weapons, the blow-dart works well (for cost--effective consumable weapons,) as does the boomerang (if looking for cheaper ranged attack weapons.) Of course, multiple tooth traps and bee mines can always do the trick.

Besides 8 meat, it drops the Deerclops eyeball. This used to have no purpose besides a sanity draining un-spoiling 60 health restoring food item, but now with the (Ruins level) Guardian Horn and 5 Thulecite, it can make a Turret weapon called the Houndius Shootius
