Weapons and torches should auto-replace like tools

Recommended Posts

When you're using a tool and it runs out of durability it breaks. If you're holding another one in your inventory it will automatically move to your hand after the breaking animation.

If you're holding a torch or a weapon and it breaks you're left scrambling to find where in your belt/bag your backup is, wasting precious time as you are attacked by monsters or Charlie.

I think it would be for the best if torches and weapons followed the same cue as basic tools and searched your inventory for a replacement once worn out. The current system has caused inattention-based deaths for me at least 3 times.

Or, you know where your **** is. Seriously, your inventory is NOT that big.

It's not THAT big, but if you're carrying a backpack and every slot is full and everything keeps moving around because that's what happens when it gets full and you switch tools a lot and pick up lots of things and you only have a second to look it can be difficult to find the one thing you're looking for in all the clutter.

There is a point where I stop trying to organize it constantly.

Why carry 5 spears when you can carry the materials to make 13?

I carry 1. When it gets around 20% I make a backup. Also, what if I'm using tentacle spikes or dark swords or something?

Could a nice adition, as MrEntity said, I also craft a backup weapon once the main one gets too degraded, the auto change can be useful to some players without disserving others, so it won't hurt adding it.

Am I right?

More damage, more enemies killed per usage.

Regardless of the damage, those weapons still have durability and wear out as you use them.

Unless you discard every slightly used weapon and go into your battles with a 100% weapon, I doubt you'd never need to replace those weapons mid-battle.

Yep never. Always left with something like 5% or less and then i just drop them near a lureplant. That for T-Spikes. For Dark Swords I bring living logs and nightmare fuel when on long trips.

Always a good plan to bring extra materials. For tentacle spikes I also toss out anything around 5% or less, but sometimes if I jump into a fight with a 20% weapon I find myself kiting and trying to figure out where my backup spike is.

So the lesson is : Don't put your backup weapon in that part of the inventory you reserve for junk.

I really don't understand how people could actually be opposed to this idea... The only effect it would have on gameplay is to ease certain dangerous transitions for people who aren't totally OCD about their inventory. It doesn't affect balance and makes an almost negligible impact on gameplay. It would also only take a few copied lines of code to implement - just change the 'axe' variable to 'torch' (or similar.)

For the record, i'm not opposed just wanted to clear out that even if it's not implemented it's not a big deal if you pay attention to what you're doing.

I'd definitely like to see this for torches. For weapons, eh, I don't really care. I always like to let my old torches run out and this would make switching to a new one less awkward. It'd be nice to be able to just make a new torch when the old one is almost out. Currently, I kinda have to stand around while the old one goes out so I'll be prepared to equip the new one immediately.
