Shadowfall

Deciding that perhaps it would be better than speaking aloud, Joseph sets up a telepathic connection between the group. 'What do you have in mind, Jakob?'

[Battal]

Send us into his mind.  Jakob says, dodging a strike from Shadowfall.  He created this form, he probably knows how it can die.

[Blewcheese]

'Okay...' Pops responded. 'We could probably do that, we just need a straight shot at him.'

[Battal]

"He is the size of a freaking skyscraper!  Figure it out!"  Jakob says, canceling out a blast of fire with one of his own.  "Wills, crazy lady, defend Pops while I'm in there.  Joseph, come with me.  You know more about this stuff than I do.  Violet, you too."

[Blewcheese]

"Alright, folks, thank you for flying with Pops International. if you feel lightheaded, that's normal. Just don't fall asleep before I can get you in there." Pops then proceeded to begin tugging at Jakob's, Joseph's, and Violet's consciousnesses and loaded them into more spears of blood.

[Battal]

"How can you people get used to this?"

[Blewcheese]

"You don't really..." Joseph finally replied, his voice becoming fainter as more and more of their consciousness was pulled away. Finally, Pops launched the spears at Shadowfall, the consciousnesses going with them.

[Battal]

"Gahhhhhhhh!"

 

The spears impale Shadowfall's neck, shattering on impact.  The consciousnesses within them black out on impact.

 

"What have you done to me?"  Shadowfall says, staring angrily at Pops.

[Blewcheese]

Pops frowned as he looked at Shadowfall, mock surprise forming on his face. "What? Oh, does the almighty Shadowfall feel concerned for what this lowly ant has done to him?"

[Battal]

"If you had something rooting around in your head, you'd probably be quite concerned too."

 

A purple, transparent tongue whips out of Shadowfall's mouth, and heads straight for Pop's face.

[Blewcheese]

(Shadowfall used lick!)

 

Pops coughed up a decent amount of blood and sent it at the tongue, (hopefully) knocking it away.

[Battal]

The blood passes through the tongue, and it drives itself through Pop's head like a railroad spike.  It causes no visible damage, but massive amounts of agony streak through his body.

[Percival]

"Well, fire boy said to defend."

 

Celina swings the osteotome over her head into the tongue attacking Pops, the tiny teeth on the blade now whirring and spinning, forcing it into the tongue appendage.

[Battal]

The blade passes clear through the tongue, just like the blood.  Shadowfall's voice echoes through Pop's head, unheard by all save for him.

 

"Concerned yet?"

[Blewcheese]

(Cleared some space. Sorry bout that.)

I'd be a lie to say I'm not. Pops remained cautious, using his mental aptitude to conceal his thoughts.

[Battal]

Despite his efforts, Pops feels Shadowfall's power coursing through his head.

 

"Hmm...greatest fears, greatest fears.  What should I cook up for you, old Popsy?"

 

Meanwhile.

 

Jakob, Joseph, and Violet awaken.  Struggling to their feet, they look around to find themselves in a ruined city.  Corpses line the streets like garbage bags, piled up in some places.  A dark aura fills the air, and the sky is dark and stormy without a speck of blue in it.

 

"Well this is milder than I expected."

[Blewcheese]

Didn't I already overcome this when at the Soul Trap? Pops frowned at Shadowfall, preparing himself for what Shadowfall may throw at him.

[Will]

"It's so dark here!"

"..."

"Are we in Germany or something? What's with all of the corpses?"

[Battal]

"Oh, don't worry.  This ought to be more...personal."

 

Meanwhile...

 

The group looks around the ruined city, trying not to breathe in the rot from a thousand corpses.  Most of the bodies seem to have massive bites taken out of them.

[Blewcheese]

Joseph looked around, and shuddered. "This place is gross. I've never explored a Shade's mind before, only humans. Hopefully the general architecture isn't different..."

[Battal]

A panting, terrified-looking man runs past the group down the street, babbling incoherent nonsense.  He suddenly jogs past to them, his eyes wild in fear.

 

"Run!  Run!  It tears its victims apart limb by limb!  Alive!  Hide!"

 

Vibrations suddenly shake the ground, as though something massive is walking towards them.

[Blewcheese]

Joseph gulped, nodding at the man. "I suppose we're in a memory... But listening to him would probably be a good idea." He looked behind him for the source of the stranger's fear, to see if he could identify the threat.

[Battal]

The man screams in terror as an enormous monster walks around the streetcorner.  It looks like the Effigy of Shadows, but far more bloated and smaller.  Its body is constructed of corpses, all sewn together in a hideous patchwork.  Its defining feature, however is its mouth; it completely dwarfs the rest of its torso, and rivers of saliva pour out of it like a waterfall.

 

"Come here, meal!"  The monster roars upon seeing the man, who flees in terror down the street.  However, he is not fast enough, and it is upon him in seconds.  Screams echo down the street as it devours him alive, staining the saliva red.

[Blewcheese]

Terror streaks across Joseph's face as he begins backing away from the large beast.

[Battal]

Jakob ducks behind a pile of corpses, motioning for Joseph and Violet to join him.

 

"Gluttony."  He whispers.  "I think."
