I've been testing this item out thanks to WX's shadow affinity and I've gotta say that this item just sucks. The geyser range is small, the damage is mediocre outside of boats even if it is good on boats (which doesn't mean much when you normally have to kill crab king, the hardest ocean boss, before you can make and use the item, and every other ocean enemy does not need a 76 damage weapon to kill quickly), fishing with this item is actually terrible (the geysers do nothing to try and make fish land on your boats, so 9 times out of 10 the fish will fly off in a random direction, wasting one of the 50 geyser casts you get), and the gnarwail horns you need to craft it are really annoying to get.

I'm surprised it didn't get changed when crab king got reworked. The only real use this weapon has is as a way to take out sea stacks from a distance, which is pretty sad for a boss weapon. Its not even a unique niche, as weather pains can do the same thing, even if they are more expensive. In the case of WX, there's no reason to dupe tridents, as you'd be better off duping weather pains which are much more versatile and useful in more scenarios.

Just move it to pre crabking and make gnarwails spawn more frequently and it might have a few niche uses

You can't be serious here lmao

It should have slots to add gems. The effects it has, should change depending on the combination of gems you add to it.
Same idea as how you can change the crab king fight.

I made a giant post with some ideas related to this a few years ago, so yeah I'd really like to see something like this get added to the trident.

I'm just really annoyed that it's the only way to uproot ocean Bull Kelps since there's apparently just no other way to get them out of the water?
That alone makes them pretty good since there's no other option on that niche.

I thought you could use a boat or two to push it back to land and they’d uproot when you pushed them onshore. Did Klei change that?

Winona's Enlightened Strike is able to uproot them (when in doubt just assume Winona can do it somehow, because she probably can)

Oh, you could? I thought it only pushes them really close to shore.
Still, there are some occassions where a boat simply couldn't fit into one of those small "rivers" which separates land branches if you plant Kelp Stalks there (which I did) that only Tridents can really push around.

Cannonballs can uproot kelp

i've pushed stalks rather long distances with the boat. you just need to put a pair of firepits on the edge of the boat and shuffle the kelps in-between them and push to shore. the smaller dragon boat does it really well in fact

Really I'd just love more naval focused weapons. Boating as walter feels so much more fun than the other characters because trying to deny boarders is more fun than simply trying to fight an enemy whose hurtbox is 45% of the deck.

Melee weapons are satisfying on land, but kinda frustrating on boats.

Trident could have had the potential to combine with brightshade to make a wurt unique planar weapon, similar to wormwood's bramble husk.

Scale mail+ brightshade/void too for willow.

It would feel pointless.

Yeah, this is also why Maxwell Gaming is great at sea. You can use Shadow Sneak and your goons to deal with pirates instead of having to be boarded and then forced to give the monkey queen bananas to not have your inventory clogged up.

Maybe a way to add more intricacy to naval combat for other characters would be to make pirate monkeys prioritize extinguishing fires over rowing, so if you have a fire staff, you can force them to stop chasing you for a bit? That'd also give the fire staff an actual use outside of stunning Crystal Deerclops. Right now it's just a bad idea to use fire against them at all because they'll keep chasing you while their boat burns.

Rebalance this weapon... It's hard...
there are almost no enemies in the ocean to fight. And it's not even about the enemies.
This is a post Crab item.
There is literally nothing to do after it.
You can do this with loot from an ordinary crab without a pearl only.
You can also give a bonus not only on boats, but also on the ice.
You can give increased damage when it rains in the world to damage stone creatures and those that can't get wet.

Here's an idea: you can use its splash attack (even on land) to make any enemy wet, even bosses, regardless of how wet the world is. That allows you to then switch to an electric weapon for very big damage.

Yes, I'm a Warly main, what of it? I have no ulterior motives with this suggestion, I assure you.

Yes. It would not be a bad analogue of a Shipwrecked flute.
