balloony Posted June 12 Share Posted June 12 (edited) This new Hot Lava skin is available as every character, and displays for every single one. This essentially means that any time I open the skin menu as any character, there is an advertisement in the top left of my screen for a game I have no personal interest in. Unlike other promotional skins such as the glomglom Puft, this skin does not actually require owning the game it's advertising, and I had no clue I was opting into such a thing permanently by opening the skin chest. The only way to hide it temporarily is by enabling the "weaveable" filter, which also hides hundreds of other skins, so it's not a proper solution. The other skins from the chest are cute and fine in their proper places, it's only this one that's so obtrusive in a way no previous skin has been. Please add some way to opt out of having this skin in my inventory. Let me unravel it, roll it back on Klei Rewards, anything. I simply don't want it! ZeRoboButler Posted June 14 Share Posted June 14 I both understand where your coming from but also mildly oppose it. I get not wanting to see it all the time (kinda), and I can see how it could be... mildly inconvenient to not be able to tell at a glance what character is wearing it. I do hope that a good middle ground can be met for those who don't care for it, and those who like it a lot. I do think it's quite funny, or even neat for some characters and could make for some fun games of "who is who". Things that are clearly placed on top of the suit like Winona's headband look intentional, but all the things like Wanda's hair just breaking out the top of the suit doesn't look intentional. And even then, all of the 'unique' aspects are just not removing parts of the character's sprites. It's a tiny little square in their skins collection tab? And if you don't want to see it in the group character screen, just don't equip the said character with the said skin. knner14 Posted June 16 Share Posted June 16 i honestly love that theyre all really similar, i find that very funny. though i do agree that theyre a little too samey, particularly for the characters that dont have the extra details. i dont think it necessarily needs to be changed but i think theyd be a lot more fun if they were adjusted to be more distinguishable. theres not any other skins i could think of that would require to pay attention to their idle animation or examine the player to know what character theyre playing, although im sure theres some that still have that problem that i just dont have in mind right now. wilson should have his hair showing even though it'd be covered by the mask realistically. theyre already not easy to take seriously (and i doubt theyre supposed to be) and his hair is pretty iconic both to the game and just to wilson specifically. itd also just be funny to see a person in a hazmat suit with wilson's hair style prominently sticking out. the mask should conform to each character's base head shape. even just looking at them all together, you can point out what character's mask is bigger or disproportionate to what they actually look like. and itd just look nicer and be more fun if it looked more like the cast of the game dressing up in the same costume rather than variations of the same body. some smaller things i noticed but dont mind: wanda's hair bun shows up but wickerbottom's hair bun doesnt. maybe thats just because wickerbottom's hair is just part of her head sprite though while wanda's is animated separetely. all the character's also use the same glove sprites despite the fact that a lot of the characters typically have unique looking hands (wendy & wigfrid's are small, wolfgang's are big, wormwood and webber have a single "finger", wurt's are stubby). wormwood's is interesting, you'd expect for his head root to stick out but instead they chose to just have the leaves and flower show in front of the mask. i kinda like it that way but i can see other people really disliking it. Popian Posted June 17 Share Posted June 17 A thing in common for ones without distinctive features is that the things that they can do for you are indirect or otherwise vanilla, so what you would usually ask them is "do you have x?" instead of "can you do y?" Another thing is that the ones that do use existing symbols layered on top (Wormwood special to see bloom). If you do want features for everyone you can look at what can be carried over from the defaults. Wilson: vest Woodie: shirt Wes: Warly: vest Walter: shirt Wonkey: tail and feet (Wortox has horns so can tell apart, maybe not at first glance) I think it might have been decided against because it doesn't look good? I'm starting to think that perhaps, this isn't a hill worth dying on, heck I'm not sure the hill is even worth climbing to begin with. Just feels like a "making a mountain out of a mole hill" situation, I get it if you would like it to show up elsewhere in the skin library, I could understand wanting to convert it into spools but that... It almost shows off how cool some of the characters designs are like what glaring features does each character have silhouette wise, willow and her curls, webbers legs, Wickers glasses or wortox's horns show off pretty nicely. Others not so much...
