I like some things about it and some things I don't. I like how it changes your world (sort of like terraria hardmode) and forces you to use new items and think outside of the box. I also really like the shadow rifts, it makes the caves dangerous again post FW.

Now as for what I don't like, I don't like how 60% - 80% of the creatures from the rifts you encounter are really annoying. I also don't like how some pre rifts items became useless due to planar shenanigans.

When rifts were first added everyone kept saying how they didn't change anything (which was sort of right since at that point in time the most note worthy change were the brightdshades) but now I think they are quite impactful and have, sort of, grown on me.

Thats just my opinion though im sure a lot of people probably disagree but again, it's just my opinion

My hatred, or rather issue with Rift content isn't even related to the content they provide.

It's mostly due to how late into the game you get access to it, so late into the game that everything you get is already less impactful due to being in late game means you're already prepared/overprepared for everything. It renders the content pointless IMO. Besides ofc the clear "we added a problem and tools to solve it" parts of rift content.

Also, I hate rift content because of how much time was wasted on the mediocre product it all is, we could've had all skill trees finished by now, we could've had more base game content done, but no. Multiple years wasted on content you get to participate in after MANY in game hours spent trying to unlock it.

I like the stuff the rifts have offered over the years, though I'm not sure this kind of progression is compatible with a game like DST, where dying is incredibly punishing and could lead to the whole world getting reset. I'm guessing that's why recent skill trees have given the characters extra power, whether that be raw damage, AoE, or easier revival options. With how long these things take to get to, it'd be incredibly frustrating if the player lost the world by dying to the first Brightshade or Ink Blight that they saw.

My main issue with rifts is the lack of shadow rift bosses. The mega blight doesn't count since it doesn't even actively attack you, and the ink blights are more of a mini boss than an actual boss. The progression of the shadow rifts is nonexistent too, as from the moment rifts open, you have access to 100% of shadow rift content instantly. Compared to lunar rifts which can easily take several seasons to fully progress through, and it just feels a bit empty. Hopefully the update coming in june adds some progression to shadow rifts and isn't just the final boss, but I'm not holding my breath.

Which kinda sucks considering they're cooler, at least imo. Shadows are also, the original force in the DS world, so the fact they got hoed is kinda crazy.

Though, hopefully they get their justice in their upcoming update

I think a lot of people hate it, well at least I personally hate it because it simply takes way too freaking long to ever actually reach it in a legitimate playthrough.

I play on Xbox we are limited to a grand total of FIVE available world saves, we have ALSO never had Klei Official or Dedicated Servers even though there’s an in-game option to search for something that only exists exclusively on PlayStation apparently..? Retro-Fitting new content into existing worlds often “bugs out” and doesn’t generate the new content properly or has to compensate & doesn’t work as it was intended. Because of such: I often find myself deleting my 5 available game saves and starting over.. (I tend to try to do a world per character & ban myself from EVER using any means of swapping characters mid-world)

I couldn’t switch em up in DS, I simply banned myself from ever doing so in DST to stay true to that classic DS feel.

This is when you start seeing the games progress flaws, unless your really good at speed running stuff, it takes AGES just to do all the tasks to open rifts. Then the amount of content that the rifts bring into the game is less than a Weather Season.

Its simply not worth the time or effort, and no… it’s Nothing at all like Terraria “Hard-Mode”

I don't hate the rift stuff, just disappointed in it. Too many bosses, not enough normal enemies. As far as stuff we can actually fight we got Brightshades, Ickers, Shark Shadow, Rictis... am I missing any? Everything else is a boss. Do any of the bosses pose a threat to general survival? No, they are all optional. It's lame! :c

I don’t think it takes too long to unlock, personally. I just think the mobs are stupidly obnoxious.

Brightshades can spawn on a crop you’re growing, and after clearing it, another can show up some time before it fully grows. They also render traditional grass/twig farms obsolete unless you “trick” the AI behavior.

Lurking nightmares are anti-fun. They are absolutely not worth the time and effort to kill, which leaves you with nothing more to do during nightmare phases than to wait it out or just perma-equip a bone helm.

Ickers are terribly balanced. Either you’re super diligent and treading very carefully or you’re just riding a beefalo and pretend they don’t exist. Dying to an icker never feels fair.

Crystal buzzards. lols. Still have yet to enable them in a world. Another mob that provides nothing of value. They punish you for killing things, I guess.

The lunar birds who corrupt normal dead mobs into their lunar variants. I do definitely agree they could have gone further but honestly I enjoy what we got so far.
