Frankly, Wonkey isn't an interesting character/mechanic to me. I think cursed trinkets are a really obnoxious mechanic, especially when the enemies can randomly spawn in a huge radius in the ocean and will come and steal your items. If you try to defend yourself, you're either stuck with 1 less inventory slot, or you're forced to visit their terrible island to give bananas to the queen to get your character back. Except, oops! The monkeys already harvested all the bananas on the island, so now you need to go to the ruins or play the balatro game to get some so you can finally get your inventory slot and character back.

So yeah, I'm really not interested in a poorly designed punishment mechanic getting development time dedicated to it that could be spent doing literally anything else. I'd actually prefer if Klei did the opposite and completely erased Wonkey from existence.

hm, i didn't think i would see anyone be this adamant about wonkey erasing. personally it has given me a reason to invest in bananas as a food to keep around(convincing me to finally play with daiquiris which are now one of my fav recipes), it does get me to be a bit more careful when taking pigs to sea and while not everyone likes sailing in general it does feel a biiiit more exciting to me

and of course a fair few people just wanted wilber by any means necessary and klei decided this would be a way to cut the middle on having a playable monkey character while standing its ground on not bringing wilber to dst

i'm not sure this is a good place to do memery? like, some new players wont understand what you are trying to do and might think there is something wrong with their/your game because of how you are responding to people.

Where they spawn is marked  by sea stacks, they only steal from the first slot in your inventory, cannon balls scare them away, they'll leave you alone if you give them a banana.

I know some people hate them but I still to this day think it's neat to have a threat that punishes solutions that involve fighting instead of using other means...like survival scenario of some sort...hmm.

If cannons and cannon balls could be obtained without visiting the god awful island, then they'd actually be a pretty good solution to dealing with monkeys. They can't though, and once you know where the monkeys are, it's pretty easy to avoid them as long as they don't spawn near crab king (which for a fight as demanding as crab king, shouldn't be possible in the first place).

It would be really fun, the only problem I see is that Klei is already working on another Dont starve game so they are probably tight on time. That said, it would be extremely cool to receive a Wonkey skill tree as a surprise during the lunar new year of the monkey that will happen in 2028.

Also, here is a skill tree I made for Wonkey if somebody wants to check it out:

The island isn't that bad simply fill your first inventory slot with junk. I get it's a matter of opinion when it comes to them but I kinda wish we have more content like them where problems are presented that require solutions that aren't just resolved via violence.

This right here is very true though I feel like if they spawn during a crab king fight they should instead be fleeing when they spawn due to fear of the boss.

If you have any other thoughts on this matter, please leave them in the comments! Personally, I think this "secret skill tree" would be cool.

nit secret, i personally feel like wonkey should be unlocked in the characters starting screen the moment u unlock it ingame first by getting cursed ,

then u could start as wonkey whenever u join or make server instead of having to repeat the boring process, and they could tweak and buff the version in character screen and give it skilltrees , this way if u become wonkey by curses u dont have the skills etc , only when u switch or start as the actual wonkey character,

wonkey have so much potential, imagine both pirate and cave monkies r friendly to him and he crafts their spawners on land and anywhere ,, ( both types ).

crafting banana trees and some unique stuff too
