Gotta say I really like the look of the new skins for the skill they look cool

The skins mostly fix my issue of the drones not being shadowy enough, but I wish it could’ve gotten that more shadowy design by default

the last time they were actively as transparent as possible about updates was wendy/walter/wortox skill tree and in return the forums made several, and i mean several posts calling for jason (the guy who posted the transparency stuff) to be fired and blamed the entire discourse on him

I don't want  to be one-group-ruined-it-for-the-whole-website about it but i would be lying if i didnt see the completely rational reasoning to be a little bit hush hush about it from then on lol, it was an immediate vulnerability to getting burned situation

I genuinely feel the upmost sympathy for the devs for when they revisit Wigfrid with the skill tree touch up.

Spoiler

I don't say Walter, Wortox, or Wendy because they already had a lot of work put into them.

It was only certain vocal segments of the community within the Wendy playerbase who acted that way. We never saw this kind of behavior or excessive pressure from those who play Walter or Wortox.

Now would be an excellent moment to take a step back and appreciate this skilltree as a whole. Personally I feel like this may be one of the best trees they’ve designed so far and I really appreciate the time and effort that went into all of the refinements, including a lot of behind-the-scenes brain modifications that were likely an immense commitment of time.

WX might be one of my new favorite megabase characters thanks to this skilltree. The circuit perks and variety of choices, combined with the extremely powerful chassis functions and drone capabilities, has made for an incredibly fun gameplay experience. I don’t want to go back to not having all of these abilities, there’s going to be some serious withdrawal the next time I switch characters.

I’m sorry that so many of you felt ignored but personally I thought that this entire overhaul of the shadow affinity was the result of a high sensitivity to player feedback and I’m a bit surprised at the overwhelmingly negative response of some of these comments. Like, you may not like the changes but I think it’s a bit of a stretch to claim that they ignored player feedback considering the entire tree was delayed due to consideration of “thematic” concerns that I personally was never as concerned about as the actual play experience. Everyone has said their piece and many suggestions were implemented. We really need to let them move on to the next update at this point.

True but I kinda think this may be better i know people might look at this poorly because klei can sell more skins this way but this also means that we'll likely get more based on past skins allowing for them to fit the skins better visually yes shadow should be the priority but roleplay can be fun as well.

It was sort of confirmed as an organised raid from a small section of the Chinese community which expressed it in that extreme way, some people did some digging into what happened.

I agree. This is the best one they have ever made and it fixed all the flaws with WX game design wise. It’s had the most effort and thought put into it.

A few nerfs to a few circuits was enough to undermine the whole tree for some people seemingly. The shadow affinity I can sorta understand because having something and having it lost can be frustrating of you liked the original but it doesn’t determine the whole tree.

Yeah I haven't enjoyed a skill tree this much since Walter's  and I really wasn't a fan of Wx before this. I actually ended up feeling a bit bad about how much I enjoyed it because it felt like praising it was being antagonistic so it always feels refreshing seeing other people enjoy it.

Yeah, maybe that's what they need to do: finish the shadow arc, and the From Beyond arc by extension. Afterwards, there should be no more story arcs, and they can add, update, rework, and revisit whatever they want, whenever they want, and however long they want, without worrying about tying them to story or completing a deadline.

I do agree, I really like the skill tree and I still think it’s one of the best designed ones. My issue is just how we got there. Klei was dropping updates on weekends and at midnight, and despite the beta releasing early the affinities didn’t drop until 4 days before the update leaving both affinities needing a lot of work before they were refined into what they are now. It feels strange for this to happen when the focus was just one character as opposed to three.

I wish we could’ve gotten here a little more smoothly, is all

This is not the nicest thing to say but I do think a lot of people set themself up for disappointment, even in the last few days lots of people in the forums were suggesting entirely new mechanics or skills for WX when that simply wasn’t going to happen. Skill trees are inherently a creative process and I think it makes people a little too creative with feedback sometimes.

From a standpoint of what we already have though, I can’t blame people who are still upset with shadow affinity. My only issue with it even now is just their design not being very shadow looking, but the skins fix it enough for me.

To be honest, I’m really happy with the rest of the skill tree, aside from the Shadow branch. The rest of the tree, including the Lunar side, is quite fun, but as a fan of the shadow theme, the recent changes have significantly diminished my enjoyment. It feels like they rushed to wrap everything up without truly considering the feedback.

People offered various suggestions to find a middle ground, but none were taken into consideration. It didn’t necessarily need to return to its previous state, but it certainly could have been better than this final result.

Thanks guys :) I'm really happy with how both the skilltree overall and shadow perk came out. As someone who loves automation, seeing all my little guys doing work for me is a dream come true. Gonna be spending a lot more time playing WX from now on. Appreciate everything you guys did a bunch ❤️

Well done. Chassis are still bit stupid but honestly I dont mind. Base changes and normal skills are decent enough to ignore affinities tbh.

Shadow might be worth using tho, great for all stages and doesnt require spending lots of time and/or resources.

I don't quite understand why people say they weren't heard. People asked for the shadow skill to look more appropriate than just being a random shadow, and Klei did that. They said they wanted to visually change the shadow skill, and they did that, and they also added additional abilities related to chess, even though they didn't mention it. If people wanted a completely new skill, it's a bit strange considering that Klei spent time refining it rather than completely redesigning it from scratch.

out of curiosity, is this referring to a previous update or is this... quite literally part of the last major update for DST? :wilson_curious:

Previous update, as it is the extention of the wx update "finishing" out the update with the shadow side

The thing is they did redesigned it from scratch. Sure, some people would say it fits better visually, but for the most part its completely different from the original. the 2nd beta had several polls that showed that the community preferred the original implementation in favor of the new one, for a multitude of reasons from the fact that the new spin circuit doesn't work with the new system to the drones being too slow for a faster wx. It's not really that people wanted a new skill, it's that they wanted the skill to look different and got the former. Playing both versions, I can attest I massively prefer the original and am very confused on why they decided to go this route.

OHH that make more sense, I was just waking up when I first read it so when I read "moving on to the next batch of content for you" followed by "note that this update-" I completely thought it was referring to the next update. :distant: thanks for clearing my groggy mind up!!

As far as I recall, the number of people dissatisfied with the shadow hands wasn't that high. It feels like they changed it simply because they wanted to, not because of mass demand. We feel like our voices are being ignored because Shadow Affinity 2.0 was released with almost no changes, despite the fact that the majority of the community was unhappy with it.

The only adjustment they made was increasing the damage from an very low 10% to 18%. Many suggestions were shared to find a middle ground, yet we haven't seen a single change driven by that feedback.
