When I read this line, I immediately imagined a backpack skin that is a balloon (or a small whimsical hot air balloon) floating in the air above the player. Then opened the game and found out all we got was just an invisible backpack skin.

why? the joke is loosely "thin air" or "great airs" which is a pretty solid joke both ways for something like this XD (also remember previous april-fools skins which are also invisible)

 

not that i am biased or anything but i for sure am super pleased with my pantoMIME backpack XD

Idk because I read "filled with air" quite literally and not as a metaphor for "filled with nothing". The imagery of a character running around with a balloon attached (kind of like Wes but without sacrificing a hand slot for it) looked cool and very April Fools themed in my head. Don't get me wrong, I understand the excitement of others about pantomimed skins, I just couldn't care less for them myself. They are literally the absence of a skin when you wear one, and even worse if it's stored on the ground - nearly impossible to see and find among other things cluttering public bases. And yes as you can probably tell I don't play Wes much - these skins are of course very fitting for him. But so would a balloon backpack skin, although in a more whimsical and creative way.

i mean, i can understand not being invested in something that is specific-character themed. just because i have been using pantomimed oar since the day it came out with no love in my heart for anything else does not mean anyone else has to commit to the theme x'''D for sure though i think as an established set for common tools it is likely that they will continue making invisible item grants for this particular holiday. people are real keen on matched sets afterall and it is the right amount of low-stakes for something as insubstantial as april-fools

 

i think though, as fun as a balloon backpack would be aesthetically it would be a fair bit more niche than the pantomimed stuff since that could only be associated with wes instead of being a duel-match to the joke of getting "nothing" for the funny-haha holiday and likely would not be a good match with a lot of people's style.

i also read haute aire as potentially relating to a hot air balloon, 
like the crashed hot air balloon from Hamlet, in hopes it was a lore hint, 
or maybe teasing a Wes skilltree including a hot air balloon, as a group travel ability, and/or to transport heavy items
