There was a rumour in the past about the developers of the game not liking achievements, and not wanting to add them to the game, but the new PS5 release of DST has a lot of achievements, including achievements for new content such as Ancient Fuelweaver, Celestial Champion and Moon Quay:

So maybe we could have similar achievements on Steam too? This might give new players some clues on how to progress, potentially motivate some players to try particular content, and let players and developers get a rough idea of how many people did a particular thing.

Not gonna happen. Probably not gonna happen. The reason they're in consoles because they were forced to do it.

As far as I know they only need to add a few achievements and only on initial release, but instead they seemingly willingly kept adding achievements along with updates (e.g. achievement for becoming Wonkey).

I just don't know what's the point tho. Game is hard enough to feel like every moment you survive and do is an achievement on it's own. We got scrapbook for logging all entries, cookbook, farm hat to fill up too. There's skillpoints to gain for many characters. Generally, the game has it's own achievement system if you explore and find things, outside one like steam one seems kinda pointless? Unless I don't understand something about it?

Achievements are meaningless.

Klei had a dedicated page about this subject on their support page, but I can't seem to find it anymore. But basically the developers said making achievements would make players follow it as a straight guide on what to do. I even remember one talk during the early days of the game where developers told players to "survive 5 days" and they would just sit around the campfire doing nothing, not exactly this but something in those lines.

I assure you, DST doesn't have achievements for a reason. Unless they are required to add achievements, klei tries not to put achievements in the base game. Even when they were required to add achievements, they did so begrudgingly, and even added a super boring, tedious one to show their dislike of achievements. (I think you have to click the trophy button like 500 times or something)

Why?

achievements are, mostly, a means of discouraging people from leaving a game when they'd naturally want to leave by giving them a list of things to do before the game counts as "finished"

Adding achievements on PS was forced; they had no choice but to do it. For this, they created a very boring achievement, launching the Accomploshrine 725 times, aiming to mock the meaninglessness of achievements.

You can check out Accomploshrine's section on wiki.gg to learn about this stuff.
