Could this relate to WX78?

The comic: Wagstaff's interaction with the apple accidentally sets off a chain reaction that shoves WX into the portal. Then the factory spontaneously combusts to tie up another loose end.

Hey everybody.

We don’t normally talk in these threads, but I want to clear up what our intentions are here.

We have some stories to tell, and we have a long path toward telling them. We’ve made plans at least up until the end of this year and have further arcs with different characters in mind. The idea of these stories is to provide some lore and background that is more difficult to convey in the game, and providing more ways to engage with our lore.

Our original intention was to provide a “countdown” to help players know when our next bit would start and where the current bit would end. This isn’t quite working as intended, so we want to change it. Not only so it feels better for players, but also provides us a little more flexibility.

On that note, we’re also adjusting how we indicate the next stage to better represent when the current bit is done or the next is available. We want it to be much clearer whether you are done for now or whether there is still more left to find.

The next stage was to begin Saturday, but due to some illnesses and a long weekend, we’re going to move that date forward a bit to give us some more time on the next part. So we’re pausing the current countdown until we have a safer date.

Finally, our plan is for the Klei Point rewards to continue to scale based on the time between stages. There will also be other rewards at major points in the story as those who have participated in previous puzzles know.

A big thanks to everybody who has joined us so far, we hope you’re all enjoying playing these puzzles as much as we’re enjoying making them!

I'm sorry to hear there are some illnesses going around, it's pretty common this time of year, but still, I hope you all get well soon!

People think Charlie captured AFW with shadow vines after the survivors defeated him, but his body actually just does that on its own at 0 health, before collapsing into a singularity.

Those points rewards are already available. The only way to see them (that I know of) is to go to your Klei account and click on the Transactions tab
We don't know what kind of rewards we will get in the future. Its probably going to be an item skin with Wagstaff/Scrappy aesthetics

I haven't gotten the points (not in my transactions) but I know I'm logged in. I really hope I didn't miss out, I've been saving up 😭

I have a new theory in anticipation for the next comic.

The portal in the factory was not a side project, it was constructed alongside the factory and was a planned part of the operations. Wagstaff had done it, he found a way to bring shadow fuel from the Constant into the real world. The spider in the Along Came a Spider short is evidence that at least someone was bringing things from the Constant for research on Earth. Wagstaff's first few marketable inventions were the gramophone and radio, which at least the radio was reported to have unrivalled clarity in its reception. I believe the secret of his success was the manipulation of shadow fuel.

Something quickly went awry in the first two days of the factory. Wagstaff realized the shadow fuel was too dangerous to mass produce units to send out into the world, possibly Maxwell revealing his trap in abducting people for what Charlie alleges was for amusement. So Wagstaff caused a fire to burn down his whole factory, thwarting Maxwell's betrayal before it got out of hand. Wagstaff is relieved to see the smouldering remains, but is also considering a new venture, the harvesting of lunar energy.

But that doesn't answer for Wagstaff being sucked into the portal or Wagstaff being in two places at once in the Interference short. I think it is provable that Wagstaff had a portal research team. Webber's dad may have only been a consultant on the Constant's entomology (whose ownership of an alchemy engine is interesting), but Wagstaff likely brought in other researchers to explore things he wasn't as well versed in. WX-78 also worked on the portal that was used to banish him. My best guess is that Winona thought she was saving Wagstaff, when in actuality it was one of maybe several research members getting sucked into the portal unwillingly as part of Wagstaff's attempt to rectify his mistakes like WX-78, although I struggle to believe that without more pieces of the puzzle.

Edit: Wagstaff recognizes the radio in Don't Starve and hasn't figured out how to bring shadow fuel out of the Constant yet. I believe that for Wagstaff this take place after the radio is made but prior to him obtaining shadow fuel. I am guessing he tinkered with past inventions once he got the portal working. The radio and gramophone existing in the Constant before Wagstaff upgrades them can be explained by the non-linear passage of time in the Constant. Wagstaff doesn't recognize their significance at this point in his life, but he is familiar with them as ordinary items.
