I thought it they made the boat better. Rowing is still painfully slow. And the wooden boat breaks after a slight touch to the island. I had to craft so many wooden boats because they just kept breaking when I was doing the new Wagstaff quest. I got lucky with the world gen in that Pearl's island and the lunar island are next to each other, and both of them are also close to the mainland. I know that grass boat is a thing, but I kinda have to go back and forth a few times, so I thought the wooden boat would fit better. But they still felt so fragile. I didn't wanna spend a million resources just to get a boat just to go to the island that was a few tiles away, too. What are you guys' solution to sea content nowadays? I haven't fought Frostjaw yet, but I'm too scared to spend an entire season sailing in an empty ocean.

have you tried not to break your boat? by goin slower and not hit land at fast speeds?

The boat was going pretty slow, though. It was just a little bump.

1 Stingers + 2 Log = Boat Patch. C'mon Poohly, I've seen you play before, you know this.

Wait, why did I think it costs a board instead. (I think I might mix it up with the old recipe.) 😭 Maybe I have to start carrying these around when sailing then. Still didn't disprove the fact that sailing is painfully slow though.

Bumpers are nice to have to not wory about colisions; the cheapest ones require just some kelp, the shell ones are a bit expensive and more for base-type boats. Pearls' island has bees, so unless it is winter you can craft an emergency boatpatch from their stingers if the accident is next to that island. And if all is grim, there is the kelp boatpatch (it will breal eventually though) and puting a rock on the leak to stop it from sinking for a while. Hope these tips help ^_^

Some tips.

1 - Like the folks already said, nowadays boat patches don't require any structure and they can be crafted anytime, anywhere as long you have the materials.

Even if you don't have the materials yet, now you can drop a item on top of the hole so it stops it from leaking for a short amount of time. Keep in mind the type of material matters so try to drop a mineral (heavier). Cut stone and flint the best in general. You also, if with some kelp around, can craft a temporary kelp patch till u find the materials to do a real one. If all that ends to fail a personal floater should guarantee ate least that u ain't drowning without will.

2 - I would recommend a sea fishing rod before you start ur sailing adventures cuz frost jaw and Malbateoss are huge for ocean nowadays. Like, actually.  Bootlegs/Malba bill just wins. Even monkey raids ain't that bad if u manage to kill captain cuz his hat improved ur rowing efficiency.

3 - Are you aware about how bottles spawn? Two days without going in the caves, place a boat, hop on, wait a minute. A  bottle should spawn around you, do row around. Going in the caves restart the times unless Don't Starve Alone mod. You can do that every 2-3 days ish. Easy pearl location really early, easy lures early, easy heavy fish and stupefying for rushing Malbatross. Full circle.

4 - Telelocator staff is pretty handy on water. You can Shazam sharks and monkeys away and mostly using grass boats and casting telelocating to teleport yourself randomly. Most of the time u will go back to main land so the trips on water are only to go in and not out the water. Rowing is indeed slow as.

5 - Scrappy werepig's Horizon expandinator can help with salt formations. That can be a pain to find. Ended runs of mine so many times. Wish ya good luck.

With all that being said I do agree ocean has too slow of a pace in the start tho. It's a lot of work to try to improve it. But at least nowadays we got some tools, we had it worse.

Thank you! I didn't realize boat patches don't require any station now. Definitely gonna carry those around next time. The Telelocator staff trick is pretty neat! I'll try that for sure.
