Simple as that, as well as greatly extending their shelflife. If Polar bins can't store them and Warly can't eat them raw then might as well it should be both a good food item as well as have that as simple enough solution to keep jerky last there a very long while.

Fun fact about Jerky! Jerky comes historically from the process of salting and drying meats so that they last much longer, usually for winter, but as a result they gain an absurdly salty taste. The reason you can't put them in saltboxes is likely to match its real-world counterpart where it's already salted to its limit (meaning its maximum shelflife that could come from salt is already applied), even if no salt was involved in the drying process.

The reason Polar Bins can't store them is simply because they don't count as a dish of their own but rather an ingredient (meat). Which is also why Warly won't eat them.

What for? You already have raw meat lasting 4x longer in the salt box, then you reset its freshness with a drying rack, then you have an already long-lasting food item to last twice as long by putting it in an ice box

Except it wasn't in DST's case. We just sun-dry it, presumably with some charcoal for a smoky taste since that's in the crafting recipe for the drying rack. That's a bit like drying a steak in a dehydrator, and as someone who has made my own jerky, the lack of preservatives (such as copious amounts of salt) means it has a much shorter shelf life than what you'd buy from the store.

They aren't particularly that good, considering alternatives.

the alternatives require dedicated fillers and alot of time wasted on pots.

Jerky is one click on a structure and then you can be on your way. A 20/25/15 farm is pretty good for that kind of low concern and effort.

not to mention the coming rack buff will be more than enough to help furthermore.

People complain about crock pot cook time. Jerky is slower and doesn't cure in rain.

Mediocre food is available year-round, then you progress to the point where you can have good stuff whenever. I don't think jerky has been a been a good choice since RWYS, and now you'll summon Big Chungus if you're trying to use rabbits as a source.

The most I can say for jerky is that I think you can make honey ham from it? That's good (temperature permitting) considering honey's spoil time.

jerky is still good for wig

Jerky is fine as a very cost-efficient food. It's just 1 Meat to get HP, Hunger and Sanity. it's a good tradeoff.

Is it worse than Pierogi? Yeah, sure, but it costs less to make than Pierogi, so it has its uses, especially when playing with multiple people, where you can actually run out of healing food.
