Now that the idea of old skill tree refreshes are fresh on everyones tongue, brainstorming time.

I already explained why Woodie's downside is not only one like you said.

Towards the Treeguard spawn chance, I personally don't think that's a downside. That's just a feature like Wendy's sanity insistance, which brings benefits to you but also brings trouble.

I said one of his only downsides. That doesn’t mean he only has one downside. You seem to have misunderstood me

That's your business. We do enjoying Woodie's tree which removing his downside.

If you dislike this, go ask a nerfing for slowdown rounds first. It does removing Walter's 1st downside of BQ and 2nd downside of getting hit (if enemy can't catch you after 70% slowing and most enemies have no ability to attack you by range, you have no downside of getting hit then).

Also, don't forget Wortox's soul jar and soul overload. We already had many arguments about these "downside fixing of Wortox". I can't recall that you were there at that moment to reject these downside fixings of Wortox.

But the tree of Woodie had fixed at least 3 downsides of him. Didn't you said that the tree only fixed 1 downside of him?

My only comment is that if developers decide to do this, they should review all the characters at once in one update, just like they did with the single player DS "Strange New Powers" update, rather than another round of character updates.

thumper

look I don't even want a smallest hint about Wagstaff into him (I don't give a damn thing about lore - shadow wizard gang), and Winaynay already can use le funny enlightened strike as discount thumper anyway.

This is not a drawback but an advantage.

i know, calling it a downside is a stretch but aside from that and forced lunar transformation Woodie has nothing in the way of downsides, you can really just play him like a Wilson with an infinite axe if you absolutely wanted to

he's all about his idols of course which each have their own upsides and downsides, i already understand that Woodie is not for me, just something that I've always thought about with him

I was more talking about the level of impact just because for a character whose only perks were being an informed inventor and beard hair some tool that gives you a huge swing would go a long way twoards making him feel full.

I'm not too obsessed with pushing that one theory.

Hell one perk that would go a long way to the inventor persona is if wilson actually could get a discount on prototyping things. It would be a weird perk that runs out eventually late game, but its sort of a reverse nod to something willson players had to live with for a long time in the old singleplayer game (I remember long ago the cost of prototypes used to be higher then later builds.)

It would give him a bit of a weird early game momentum boost where he could build a lot of the craft stations for cheaper/faster initially to get himself going, even if rebasing later would still give him the normal cost.

Transmutative beard -> Wilson beard will grow a few random resources from the transmutation skills he has unlocked, you will only be able to acquire these resoucers and find out what grew in your beard once you shave it! This would be an oposite playstyle to keeping your beard always fully grown, in this playstyle you would wait until you have your level 3 beard and then you would be incentivized to shave it for resouces, with a small chance of a rare gem! You would also have some control of what random resources you would want growing on your beard since it would take into account your unlocked transmumation skill and the resources in their description!

I got a ton of ideas for changes, but because you’re narrow it down a bit I don’t wanna forget things because I’m spreading myself too thin

I came up with some great ideas here at the moment. I don’t feel like copying them all over but look through  page 2-3 and you’ll see them. It’s mostly notes on other people‘s ideas, but I also shared some ideas that I think are pretty good if I do say so myself:

Refining the earlier wilson idea on an inventor skillset. Mixes genuine genius with serious dishonesty in a way that makes our unrecognized genius both useful, and dangerously unwell in the head.

  • Perilous Prototyper: Save one (Or one third, whichever is greater) resources on all multi resource costs *only when prototyping.*
  • Eager Engineer: Wilson finetunes his tools to match his allies specifications, giving them improved durability when gifted to others (Pigmen/bunnymen/other players.) Allies timers for following Wilson increase when they are given tools.
  • Dashing Drafter: Wilson can copy blueprints using papyrus, and gains sanity when others read his duplicates.
  • Proud Prototyper: Crafting stations where all prototypes have been completed give Wilson a sanity aura. This aura is stronger on stations which are harder to complete. The Perilous prototyper bonus applies to certain items that have been obsoleted by newer prototypes, but Wilson takes a sanity cost for stooping to making cheap and obsolete items. Taking sanity penalties while crafting accelerates beard hair growth.
  • Capstone Clever Counterfeiter: Wilson gains the power to prototype certain items that are normally locked to their crafting stations, at the cost of a steep sanity penalty per craft. Wilson can now pickpocket friendly npc's as well as the three monarchs without them noticing don't do this this last parts a joke.

I totally called it, skill tree re-reworks.

(and if this ever actually happens I’ll be convinced Klei felt it was easier to just endlessly rework character abilities then it was to add new weather effects, mobs, hazards, challenges, biomes and game modes into the game.)

I wouldn't be surprised if some character crafts are technically delayed because the materials are locked behind future from beyond content.

Lucy should have alinements that allow her to follow woodie in his wereforms and woodie’s shadow alinement name should change to shadow beast since the current one doesn’t really make sense and the description should be changed either so the shadow creatures you have as one of their own and that form since they’re both shadow aligned beast, or they view him as just one of the constant’s weird creatures while in that form because if she could call them off would she do that for her sister?

does anyone know if the tree guard to them extends to poison Burch nut trees

being able to use lunar fire bringer on a beefalo

being able craft alignment dumbbells with Wolfgang alignment alongside what it is now

bramble shade helm (and possibly a sword, but that might be a little bit too much) for wormwood

Wilson: Gone awry, Experiments that can be used as bombs

Been able to make a humongous

A third lunar craft
Wendy: have mourning glories take the place of loon blossoms for the ability that allows Abigail to take player damage instead of mob damage

allow Wendy to craft the knife shown in this picture:image.png.6f00ad4c22b2b30609c3d9b8b7cb5f79.png

and use it to sacrifice things to give Abigail health buffs possibly increasing Abigail‘s debuff to enemies similar to how shadow Abigail currently works

make it so putting dark petals/lune tree blossoms in a sisturn triggers Abigail‘s respective alignment forms

give abigail’s shadow form the ability to teleport like shadow creatures do

Applying Abigail‘s AOE to her guest stall attacks, as well as keeping her closer to Wendy

walter:

giving big woby the ability to swim like a varglet (you could also apply to small woby retrieving things that are in the water)

Woby’s shadow and lunar form she allow her to break down harder materials with the hardheaded skill wortox:

wortox can also collect so equivalents

wx-78 and clockworks: mechanical essence

stats: half everything across the board

Shadows:corrupted soul

stats:all the stats of a normal soul with a heavier sanity loss

Baby tentacle(unless it not dropping a soul is supposed to play. It’s not actually dead. Cause killing babies is kinda messed up.):premature soul.

Stats: basically the Morsel will equivalent to a soul person even greater sanity lost

when punching with his bare fist if every hit he does triggers a dice roll with a one percent chance of Insta killing

also, I would change the naughty inclination. Ability is the whole greed thing sounds good on paper but in practice it just gives you a little bit more of a chance to release souls when you’re overflowing before it causes damage which, if all it does is give more time to release them, then that kind of goes against the whole greed idea and seems more like something you would get with that a nice inclination like the souls are being more lenient on you because you’re nice and giving you a chance to release them on your own

Wormwood: He should also have a bramble shade helm

Wurt: She should have a skill center around fish since her culture put so much importance on lives of fish and their companionship

The swamp Pathfinder skill should be replaced with a skill that gives an upgrade to the clever disguise that gives you partial mermverification Allowing you to move as fast as Wurt on Marsh independent of Wurt (and maybe give you the ability to see tentacles like Wurt does or higher merm guards ) as well as making it so you can replenish the freshness of both clever disguises and freshwater fish in a tin fishin bin

Wurt should have a amphibian skill that allows her to jump like frog Webber

Little itchy should be replaced by atorch covered in bees wax that’s also refillable using beeswax

When unlocking the upgraded versions of the structures found in the skill tree, the previous version should also be able to be upgraded into the upgraded version

Gestalt mosquitoes or gnawts(the unused blackflies from the Gorge) should replace the enlightenment field for terra mutation

The horrific and brilliant trident shall replace the mudslingers sea recipe except the strident trident replaces the driftwood they work the same I just think it makes more sense and would look better if it was a marsh covered pure horror/brilliance infused strident trident that summons the marsh like how merm king summons guards

Also potentially all the quest skills allowing work to give some variant of the abilities given to germs when equipped with the same items since we all know, she’s the real one putting in the work so she deserves that royalty

Wolfgang: Affinity dumbbells

Willow: Can use lunar fire riser on beefalo

Winoana: Can use hot light too hatch eggs

Have fan craft

More machinery

Final Charlie and Wagstaff skill shouldn’t be mutually exclusive

Different power sources should have effects on other machinery than the catapult(including Wagstaff inspired machinery)

The alignments should be more balanced, but I don’t know how to do that

Every skill tree should be like Walter's. Every single skill should be good, you should pick the skills you want to pick because you like them instead of there being blatantly correct & incorrect choices, and there should be no repetition of skills where the only thing that changes is the number is different. Woodie is a great example of a skill tree that's almost good. A lot of his skills are really good and worth choosing, but 8 of his skills are just 3 skills. There is absolutely no difference at all between the three Quick Pickers, the three Transformation Timers, or the first two levels of Treeguard Feller. They are all the exact same skills, it's just the one single number that they change is different.

I mean there is a reason I suggested quicker picker 1 become picker 3, and picker 2's a different skill where you can use lucy to grab loose things off the floor.
I sort of acknowledge the repetitive skills that aren't touching bespoke (Almost necessary) attribute are usually not very interesting.

Magnificently mutated Beard: Your fully grown Magnificent beard is also a hand slot.

                  - Can equip torches, lantern, umbrella, etc
                  - Can equip weapons and it will attack a nearby enemy every 3 seconds.

Feels like this would fit better on Webber. AFAIK Wilson doesn't have any mutation abilities/lore.
Wilson has been left behind a bit, but also his identity is tied up in being the base character, and a bit of inventor. I'm more interested in brainstorming new skill trees than reworking old ones *cough* Warly *cough cough* but if we're looking at improving Wilson, my vote is access to higher level research a la Wickerbottom, combining torch skills (at the cost of slightly reducing max radius), we can probably get rid of/combine faster beard tree, and maybe a new tree using scrap and gears for something?

It'd be cool if he had an alchemy capstone (maybe 6+ alchemy skills to unlock?) which let him either create Ancient Pseudoscience Stations on the surface, or unlock Pseudoscience Station recipes when crafted once, as with other recipes.

Perks to always have some lesser (nonstackable) equivalent to Deconstruction Staff would be another interesting option.

Lunar side is known to mutate, posses or give life to dead, living or unanimated things. I dont think this would fit Webber, I see Wilson magnificent beard as more part of his identify than Webber web beard, which seems more like a spider themed nod to Wilson beard than something that is important to Webber identity. • Willsons torch skills are a bit redundant, what he could craft exothermic and endothermic torches that help him ward off the seasons while consolidating the redundant perks. Planar torches for helping people maintain/lose their minds. Possibly a new capstone where he can help dry people off with a torch (Or invent beardhair towels.)

I believe Wilson Torch Tree can extend to all Light sources but, if Klei keeps its idea exclusively on torch, these are my ideas:

  • First the Torch Toss. Is a simple and funny perk but no so useful. So this should be open the tree.
  • Second, the Torch Relay. Based on the olympic torch, this skill should provides an increases for speed movement for 25% when torch is equipped.
  • Third, the Torch Eficiency: Basically this skill merge range and longevity, but also extending to the others features, increasing torch durability by a total of 80%, water resistance to 30% and its gradually decreasing of light radius and temperature from maximum to minimum, 70/120/180/220 degrees and 2/3/4/5 units.

The locked skills could be focus on cooperative and invidual uses for the torch.

Torch Fraternity. Wilson can illuminate other characters torches producing a friendship sanity aura (25/min) and temporarily sharing his torch perks (apply only for the illuminated torch) by giving it more longevity (50%), range (5 units), able to throw, water resistance (30%) and speed movement (25%) while equipped.

Ultimate Torch. A portable fire pit. Recipe: Scales x1, Gold Nugget x4, Red Gem x1. Add Nitre to create a portable Endothermic Fire. This fire does not spread. Add Nightmare Fuel to create portable Night Light. This fire does not spread.

Of course, also I thought on skills for the Light Tree but that is on another thread.

Another banger idea for willson is being able to transmute bamboo and alloys as capstone skills in transmutation for a small selection of hamlet and shipwrecked items to become available again.
This would give you some of the biggest megabaser items I can think of, shelters, stations to dry off, places to make ice using fuel, sprinklers.....
Maybe even a lamp post once you found an item thats roughly on par with the key to the city. (Seed of ruin lmao.)

But also strong mid game tools like sheers, halberds, the spear gun, and the tin suit.
It all would be transformative to the midgame and the megabaser segments of the game, without making him by any means a dominant force late game as the halmet and shipwrecked items do go obsolete.
I sort of made a thread in general on this while forgetting I had this thread here, oops.
