Just to be clear this isn't a buff or nerf thread I'm just curious how people feel about the skill after some time has past. The skill has a lot of good points in that you get 3 drying racks that you can take with you the only cost being to maintain big Woby. Originally me and my friends saw the skill as a absolute must take skill but we've slowly moved away from using it in every build. Personally I only use it in builds that I plan to commit to the mobile base life style with. That aside what is everyone else's thoughts on the skill after some time has past?

real, there are just better perks to use in normal gameplay, and after a couple of days when you have drying racks (with Walter’s cheaper ropes), it becomes not too good

I will probably use this skill in pubs or other servers where I don't expect to be playing for long, but otherwise I would rather have Twine Twirler to build up drying racks and spend that skill point on something else. If I take the Woby treats skill as it currently is, at a 1 monster jerky to 2 treats conversion rate (which should be 1:1 instead as you all have heard me say before), I build up treats quickly enough that I don't need to be constantly drying.

That said, I could also see this being useful in multiplayer just to save space. In solo, Walter can have a small enough base that drying racks are probably the set of structures that take up the most space, right next to trees.

I think it’s a really good early game enabler. Apart from drying racks needing resources to place (it’s not a terrible cost, but having a bit of a weight lifted by not needing them immediately is nice), just having effectively 3 drying racks always with you and not needing to go to a base location is a pretty nice boon. That being said, I probably wouldn’t take the skill if it didn’t especially combo well with Woby treats (which I feel is a must take in any branch anyway), which lifts the skill up considerably as it’s very nice for keeping Woby fed during early exploration, and can realistically be all you need to keep her hunger up.

The skill will fall off in the midgame and onwards as you establish a permanent base with infrastructure, but I personally think you get enough of a payoff during the time it’s useful to justify its purpose.

Oh, I love that one. I use it constantly in my long-play beta world. I like being able to make Woby snacks (or Walter snacks, AKA normal jerky/dried kelp) on the go. It's also super good for a nautical playstyle (where your base is on a boat) since it'll let you convert fish into meat for crock pot purposes without taking any additional space on the boat.

It's quite an unnecessary skill for a try hard solo run.

But i can see it being useful in klei pubs where you might not trust everybody enough to build a fixed base.

Field medic and pinecone panache are much stronger for allowing Walter to take hits during boss fights and portable campfire allows you to cook meat while giving you portable light and heat.

Conclusion, portable drying rack is good if you have no other scout skill apart from woby treats but if you invest into any of the other scout skills its better to just swap drying rack out for one of the other scout skills. Eg. Field medic synergises with pinecone panache so there is no point having both drying rack and Field medic, just swap drying rack to panache.
