Suggestion: Rethink raid boss despawn checks?

That is the point of the whole fight.

Again, the other problem (boss despawn after reload the world) is there so it's not "fixed". Even CC don't just break down and you have to start the whole fight all over again, now do you?

If no player is nearby it will heal. It would make more sense if it not only healed but fully reset, given how powerful that entity is supposed to be. Bearger feels more mortal and will stay wounded while the Dragonfly feels more powerful and acts accordingly. The point is, this is not even a problem unless you are hellbent on trying to abuse the range or simply haven't learn how to fight the boss. I can't think of a more boring way to defeat the boss than sticking it to the border of its constrained area while shooting it at a safe distance. You can already do that with the Celestial Champion using the Gloomerang this direction of fighting is killing the game, plus it makes it difficult or even impossible to add new quirky mobs when the player can simply speed away and resort to a ranged attack. I would say the Dragonfly behaves appropriately for its loot and ease of access as a boss.

I'm sorry, the "haven't learnt how to fight the boss part" offends me a little. I have 12.5k hours on the game already and just wanted to try Walter for the first time since this is one big change for him, so I would know how to fight her in melee.

Im offended because you didnt release any videos on how she despawn on you. Cus on all other character fighting mele, the despawn mechanic works as intended, and just by your word alone without exact location of dfly, we cant know what exactly caused her to despawn.

And we are here trust your word blindly and blame all fault is on it's despawn mechanic.

What if it's a Walter bug? What if it's a retargeting bug?

I played Walter just today. Faced off against dragonfly and, guess what? I double tapped to shadow teleport back behind my safe walls on Woby. What did she do? She said YOU'RE A COWARD, AND A FOOL!

...And yes, she stomped the ground a bit then flies back to her arena center with full health.
What I'm saying is, can we get a small grace period for all bosses that can despawn? I wasn't even outside her arena boundaries, I was next to a magma pool and she still went away. I'm not saying just about only Dragonfly too, Bee Queen and such are prime examples of why there needs to be a small period for solo players so the boss doesn't suddenly think you surrendered and all was for nothing.

It was a bug.

Thank you, I couldn’t get a clip. The aggressiveness of this place is why I rarely use the forums outside the Mods and Tools section.

Edit: to clarify, I had the exact same scenario as the bug listed. Dragonfly was enraged, and I shadow dashed away only for her to despawn.

Tbh I guess these are two different things maybe. I never got same experience like what OP said. i only found that the enraged dragonfly would move back (not respawn) to her spawn point when yhe bug happened.

Pardon us but there are so many posts here from players who simply don't understand mechanics in the game. For more intricate mechanics I barely have any in-depth knowledge. For basic things I supposedly know how they play out and after a hundred fights against the Dragonfly I haven't seen it simply despawn up close in a clean skirmish. It still sounds like a sudden retreat or disengagement caused it to fly away, which is intended. The boss is so sluggish it would make ranged combat incredibly boring if it didn't fly away. Instead of teleporting behind walls it is more fun and rewarding to learn the attack pattern. You can also change the terrain to Cobblestones as close as possible to the boss to gain an extra advantage when fighting up close.

As pointed out, a video would have saved a lot of discussion whether it was a bug or not.

Apologies on my end also. I thought it was another case of deaggro-despawn since Dragonfly is an old boss, and thought her mechanics were left unchanged.

I was too frustrated at her despawning at 40% health and forgot to look back into Steam Replays, which only captures 120 minutes of gameplay.

I think it's not about range abuse. I mostly play close-combat characters. also encountered Dragondfly flies away. Also it feels weird to anyone when you finght a boss and suddenly when you decide to kite her attack she flies away. "Learning" her behaviour doesn't come naturally - you have to read articles or watch youtube to understand the despawn mechanic, the only thing you can detect as normal player is "okay I should stay near lava ponds". But as it was mentioned, stun/sleep changes zones. Instead of protecting this unobvious mechanic, I would rather say it's bad game design and it should be remade to be more intuitive.

Yea, the sleeping resetting her tether point or whatever, is the most annoying thing. As it makes running around in her arena make her despawn sometimes. Like she'll spawn larvae, then you fight her around the pond and kite, then she just goes away.
