Will there be less updates this year?

Recommended Posts

Assuming we count the current beta patch as patch 4 for 2024

Do we think there will be less content updates this year?

I know last year there was a change in update format/pacing and to many it felt like less content. With the current beta branch having some issues with making it to release, I have to imagine there's a good chance we see even less content this year?

Are we looking at 3 patches for the year potentially?

The 2025 road map can't come soon enough. Not a complaining post, just consider this game among the best and like most just want to experience as much of it as possible!

We basically got a minor update at the end of the year and it's I think bug fixes and snowman update.

Skilltree update was delayed due to Wendy drama with most of the community (mostly with Chinese side cause they've got a higher dominant force on opinions on her)

We might get a big update that would come with skilltrees which would result in estimated 4 updates this year or skilltrees will be a 5th early update.

We exactly don't know what they're doing but I doubt it'll slow them anymore than skilltrees already had.

Eh, possible. We already see how messed up those 4 updates were, especially with the big worm.

That's why I preach for 6 months between updates, so they can have time to fix those pesky ass bugs and put decent content.

I'm OK with that, whether it's a longer or shorter update interval.

Longer intervals = Higher quality is a pretty bold assumption...

I personally worrying that there's a chance of no more update for DST in this year, if we consider some factors and details of DST during last year.

While that will inevitably come, I doubt it'll be this year.

I think Klei respects their community enough that they'll communicate this kind of things in advance.

Plus none of us know what kind of revenue dst generates from its microtransactions/skins.

Maybe it's a sustainable business model, maybe it barely covers operating cost

Adding more Months doesnt really make them better.

The updates were good in 2020 and stuff where there was tons of high quality updates almost every Month that focused on a few mobs.

First of all.. DST literally just released on Nintendo Switch not too long ago, and it’s still missing several updates other platforms have already gotten, sadly they missed out entirely on both the Hallowed Nights & WintersFeast Updates- When Klei finally catches the switch platform up: they’ll get to enjoy those seasonal updates probably as optional toggles they can turn on (or it will be activated weirdly late for them)

Second of all: DST has been officially confirmed (By Netflix) to be coming to Netflix Games on mobile smartphone devices.. and I would imagine that making sure they can port the game properly to touch screen devices will take up a ton of their time and development.

Lastly: It would be the dumbest move in the history of video game developers to release a game (while that games existence on PC May had been 10+ Years) onto new platforms (like above mentioned Mobile) And then just completely slow down or discontinue updates for it.

And? So what? Plenty of games do such things too.

Brother, I’ve legit seen games get delayed by 5 to 10 years of their original announcements in attempts to make sure they have a smooth bug free launch, and then they still release as broken unplayable messes.

GTA Online was probably single handedly the biggest botched launch in the history of gaming, they intentionally released GTA V without the Online Mode for 3 months in an attempt to calculate how many players would buy the game and how many servers etc they’d need to have a smooth launch for the “Online” portion of the game-

The problem here though: Was that many people (my family included) did not buy the game until AFTER the online component came online… and this lead to the unforeseen circumstances of their “smooth launch” being overwhelmed by so many players they weren’t able to account for, which lead to the game being unplayable for god only knows how long as RockStar scrambled to correct their mistake.

My point? Taking Longer to develop something does not ALWAYS Guarantee that it’s going to be “better” or even work smoothly once it finally comes out.

But that of course, does not mean we should demand and rush the devs to release updates either.

Nah they should go back to the good old days of one update every 2 months

It was a few years ago now Mike, can you provide sources to show your other claims?
