What Direction do You Believe Dst Should go in?

Recommended Posts

Personally, I'd like to see the game make a U-turn on all the rift and skill tree content and recycle it where applicable. And also add a seperate "hard mode" ala Terraria's expert mode. But there's a snowball's chance in hell of that happening, so whatever.

I want them to add more post-rift content, but I also want them to make alternative methods of activating them rifts.
Activating them from the server options feels lame, but being forced to wait for full moons and new moons to start their respective questlines is also lame, i want something that isn't timegated.

I have played DST for 2,000 hours now, mostly solo.  I've only defeated Fuelweaver in practice runs and never defeated Crab King.  I practiced both fights for several hours each and just never wanted to have that experience again.  2K hours says I love this game.  I just don't like fighting bosses.  In fact, I hardly ever play without the Automatic Health Adjust mod.  I set Beefalo health to 1000 and let it set the rest.

I killed Moon Lord Terraria, so somehow I killed all the bosses there.  DST bosses are hard AF!

Instead of fighting bosses, I like to challenge myself in other ways.  I'm really glad your game allows this:

  • Made every crock pot dish
  • Catch every fish in the sea (I think I caught a heavy one of each before realizing that Pearl only accepts about 4 or 5 random heavy fish and the 4 seasonal fish).
  • Craft every one of Wickerbottom's books
  • Completed the Gardening lore (grown every crop to every stage)
  • Using the console, I made a mini-game where I use the console to start Hermit Island and never touch the mainland.  I "win" when I've done the following on Hermit Island: grown an above-average tree-trunk, done 1 hermit-home upgrade (all upgrades if playing Wilson), brought a Glass Cutter, and built a square of dock.
  • I'm currently on day 75 in a Lights Out winter-year-round world playing Wickerbottom.  I based next to Dragonfly, both because the lava pools heat thermal stones to 90 degrees, and because Tumbleweeds drop cut grass and occasional pages I can blank out at a Cartography Desk to make Papyrus.

I love that you can do all these things in your game.  You've thought of so many little things.  Any time I could get more, interesting survival challenges, I love that.

You know, I wish you had an alternate way of doing boss fights.  Like a little vending machine.  You put 500 hp of armor, 500 hp of healing, and 40,000 hp of damage causing items in a slot and Bee Queen dies, or you get her loot.  I love that you can give Antlion a Beach Bucket and get its loot that way.

I wish there was a way of getting Perl out of her house at night.  Maybe light it on fire and it puts itself out, like the End Table, but Pearl steps out for a few seconds in the process?  I'm going to have to put a lot of boats under the knobbly trees to ensure the seeds fall on one of them without the Pinchin' Winch!

I think one issue the game faces is the game can't really expand on survival content because characters are too overturned to make it engaging despite that I'd love to see more things to explore added throughout the world and perhaps expanding the lunar island into a larger landmass as it feels too small for the fun additions it adds.

When you choose skilltrees, you are always thinking of combat since all of them except Wilson is combat focused. Feels like they shoved an rpg into it. It also makes Wigfrid more redundant as THE combat character.

This exactly. I wish they would focus more on non-combat for others then Wigfrid and Wolfgang

I think one of the best examples of nice QOL is Woodie faster gathering, it's so simple but sooo good.

NG+  is where I want to see this game go

Ideally being the "final" update for this game once the skill trees and story arc are completed.

Give us the ng + with plenty of ways to stay busy, then klei can move on to the sequel

That’s not entirely true, Klei simply choose to be lazy in making skill trees that BREAK most of their pre-existing content and challenges rather than updating that old content to still provide challenges that accommodate for the newer skill trees.

TL:DR If Woodie can Goose it Over the Ocean, he should’ve been able to scoop up fish in his goose god mouth, but being a small goose and all, larger ocean creatures like RockJaw should’ve chased after him like a delicious snack.

This holds true for EVERY Skill Tree.

Winona played in Lights Out Mode is “cheating” now thanks to permanent & portable light sources & total immunity to dying in Darkness, but if LOM was updated so that shadow hands tried to unscrew the lightbulbs out her spotlights, or if a new quote was added by Charlie herself “you can’t dodge my moves forever sister..” and then BLAM your dead for being in darkness on LOM too long.

Willows Downside was meant to make her get colder faster in Winter, but with a 2 day long easy early game dwarf star that downside no longer exists for her, This would change if Winter had new variations of Winter such as strong winds and blizzards- Blowing out those Dwarf Stars.

To put it short and simple: The rest of the game needs to be updated to accommodate for skill tree changes, in order to still be a “challenging survival game” again.

The game can't rise to meet the current level of powercreep without becoming basically unplayable for most people and turning Wilson into basically a challenge character by comparison with his current level of ability.

If we're being fair Wx more or less already removes darkness as a mechanic or if we were to take it a step down Walter with a brightshade helm does the hiding in darkness thing better since he doesn't get the massive sanity drain that Winona does as something overlooked is while Winona won't die to darkness she can't just stay in darkness because instead of Charlie she'll go insane and die to nightmare creatures it just makes fumbling with lights less punishing really.

Yeah I don't understand why fireball exists like it can't be argued it's just better than a star caller in every way...

Stop updating the character.
Character updates should be aimed at enabling characters who are lagging behind the times to adapt to the current environment, rather than serving as a driving force for advancing the game
Energy should be focused on this continent

they are going to continue with skilltrees for maybe one or two more years and then will come the skilltree reworks. Mark my words.

A single update to level the skill trees to the same state (something within a general QoL update, for example, would be welcome)
But not something that takes that much time again, jeez

Yeah, of course there are still many things that can be improved or areas that could receive new content, but this game has reached a state where everything is incredibly better than before (like 8 years ago lol). I can't even begin to comprehend how much has been improved in this game.

they already did that with crystal bearger & deerclops

The absolute LAST thing this game needs is more bosses

DST should be renamed Boss Fight Simulator.

The Don’t Starve Franchise & it’s DLCs weren’t so heavily focused on bosses as DST has become.

And probably what is most sad for me is experiences I once enjoyed playing Dont Starve FOR I am now finding better enjoyment of from other game franchises like Minecraft, Lego Fortnite & The Survivalists.

Those games give me the thrill of sandbox survival adventure, and continue to provide updates to add to that sandbox adventuring.. While DST has instead shifted its focus largely to boss battle arenas.

I understand EXACTLY why Klei does this- It’s easier to code one boss suited for multiple players to engage with then it is to make other types of content.

But it does leave me seeking out quote “randomly generated sandbox” adventures in other games that do it better than DST.

Make a NORMAL single mode with local worlds with Shipwrecked, Hamlet and all DS content, generations and others.

Because DST solo is an unbalanced, stripped-down approach.

When will Klei remember about solo players?

Well, or make DS 2 OR DST 2.

Make next seasons harder as days progressees.

Longer/harder rains that could bypass eyebrella in specific situations

Monster randomly gathering around map sending troops to our base

Make adventure mode 2.0 but together version

Make useless stuff useful (raining coats could be useful if u added harder seasons and some backpack slots to it)

I'm really hoping for a "conclusion" to the story honestly. We know for a fact we have a war between lunar and shadow going on right now and we haven't even reached the climax yet, so i'm expecting Klei to someday add the final boss to each side (and actually be the last one you'd fight in a playthrough! Like Moon Lord from Terraria), alongside adding skill trees to the rest of the cast and the conclusion to the story, whatever that may be.

Now what i'd REALLY LOVE would be a whole new expert difficulty, where your playthrough would be way harder akin to DS's original difficulty because honestly, after the new skill trees and just me getting way too experienced  i miss being challenged by the game! And Wes doesn't quite scratch my itch

Is it possible to have factions other than the moon and shadow, which allows you to learn the skill tree of shadow and moon at the same time. I call it "the third round of character redo," which is exactly what ugly K could do.
